East Kent Saint Posted 14 August, 2019 Posted 14 August, 2019 Should the Prem be offering assistance ? Do we want to see old clubs fail ?
Faz Posted 14 August, 2019 Posted 14 August, 2019 I recall not being knocked over in the rush to help Saints when we were in trouble. In fact some quarters were retrospectively re-writing the rules to punish us.
badgerx16 Posted 14 August, 2019 Posted 14 August, 2019 Why not Bury ? They are much closer to folding. Ultimately football clubs are commercial businesses, and as such may fail financially if underfunded or mis-managed.
Lighthouse Posted 14 August, 2019 Posted 14 August, 2019 No, would encourage other clubs to gamble financially, knowing the League would bail them out. I’ve got a mate who’s a Bolton fan, beyond caring if he’s honest. They’ve been so badly run, it’s like a slapstick comedy which has run on 3 series too many.

Bury should be allowed to fold, and their FA Cup results expunged, especially the 1900 final. Retrospective award to the beaten finalsists.
Charlie Wayman Posted 14 August, 2019 Posted 14 August, 2019 It's part of life, businesses fail new businesses rise. Intervention is not the answer. Living within your means is.

benjii Posted 14 August, 2019 Posted 14 August, 2019 If only their chairman had got his way and abolished relegation when they were in the PL...
Saint_clark Posted 15 August, 2019 Posted 15 August, 2019 FA should have a system in place whereby a club who goes out of existence has it's ground, facilities etc all paid for and gifted to the season ticket holders of the previous club as shareholders of a new phoenix club. Or call me an idealist.

Or call me an idealist. Would only work if the club concern actually owned those facilities when they went bust. I don’t know if that’s the case with Bolton but if they do own their ground it would be sold off and the proceeds used to pay off whatever mortgage their is, with the remaining money going towards creditors. Generally when stuff like this happens the levels of debt are higher than the combined value of the assets, so there is nothing left to ‘gift’ to the fans.

Saint86 Posted 15 August, 2019 Posted 15 August, 2019 Should the Prem be offering assistance ? Do we want to see old clubs fail ? No. Bolton tried to make the prem a closed shop with no relegation. And we got no help from the wider football community when we went under, and with far less debt that Bolton.
Stud mark of doom Posted 16 August, 2019 Posted 16 August, 2019 Not followed this but surely as a minimum they’ll reform a few leagues down. There may even be a stadium available in Bolton they can play in. In reality, from Aldershot to Wimbledon, football clubs are much more robust than the narrow legal entity.

AFAIK the University of Bolton Stadium is owned by Bolton Wanderers.

Faz Posted 16 August, 2019 Posted 16 August, 2019 AFAIK the University of Bolton Stadium is owned by Bolton Wanderers. It is, but the administrator has it valued at £10m, and there is an outstanding mortgage of over £10.5m. There are unsecured non-football debts of c£5.5m - just reading the list there are loads of small local businesses which will be screwed.
badgerx16 Posted 16 August, 2019 Posted 16 August, 2019 (edited) .....there are loads of small local businesses which will be screwed. As always. Edited 16 August, 2019 by badgerx16
