Standard nimbyism that all MPs and local politicians show.

If Sunak did what Starmer wanted & stopped it at Old Oak Common, Soggy & other lefties on here would be moaning like fuck. He’s spent post after post claiming that Starmer is being sensible, but not to go into Euston is fucking ridiculous. Can you imagine the up roar if Boris did the same, wanted the track to end before his constituency, some of you would self combust

The reason HS2 stops at Old Oak is that to go further it needs a tunnel, and most of the London constituencies are already underrun with tunnels, be it the Underground or Crossrail, so on that basis it should make no difference.

The main issue with HS2 has always been that there was never a need for a high speed link, what was needed was greater capacity on the West Coast Mainline, coupled with vastly improved east-west trans Pennine lines. As a national vanity project it was trying to deliver the wrong thing.

Which is political mumbo jumbo for the easily led, people like you.

He could easily commit to it no matter what happens with the "wrecking ball". All he needs to do is say they'll do whatever it takes to put it back on track.

He won't commit to that though because it would not make any sense at all financially or politically.

I'll guarantee that Starmer sighed a huge sigh of relief once Sunak announced he will scrap the project as it would have been a millstone round his neck once he gets into office.

Why is it so hard for you to admit that scrapping the whole farce is the best thing to do for the country? Just because Sunak has gone ahead and announced it, you seem hard wired to oppose it. It's very childish behaviour.

Nice try at being pedantic though with my wording, I've already said a number of times that Starmer has refused to commit to it 😜

You had better watch it Weston. Your last 2 posts on this thread have contained unnecessary personal digs at me and SOG.

Lighthouse smacked your botty a couple of weeks ago. You will get banned if the mods spot  personal, unnecessary digs.

Weston playing the man. He is an expert on rail capacity and on drivers for economic growth.

Stand up and fight for more debt, higher inflation, lower pay, higher mortgages and a £100 billion on a railway to nowhere. Who could resist that call?

Given that so much depends on the project being completed (go and look at all of the multiple spin off benefits if you haven’t already) and you will see that it is not unreasonable for people to take a contrary view to Sunak

Well, people other than Starmer it seems.

No digs at you or Soggy are unnecessary.

No need to hide behind the mods. Mods, mods, look WSS did a comment!

If the light hearted jibes upset you so much, just say 😜

Although I'll bet you've already contacted the mods to ask for a "report post" button to be added 😜

A report post button. Now that's a good idea.

Just seen the highlight of the Tory conference; Gove standing up and saying, without any conviction whatsoever, that "we have £350 million more every week going into the NHS; promise made, promise delivered". Even the audience seemed embarrassed when the cameras panned across the room.

The most easily and frequently debunked Brexit lie, as admitted by Johnson Farage and Cummins, gets dusted off and given a public airing. How desperate are they that they think that particular piece of wool can be pulled back in front of the electorate's eyes.
