The media would be all over it too, but like you say, would they let us in?It would be interesting how the club would react.Would they try and clear the proprty? I myself would expect to keep walking around the ground and not do anything but do so in silence and listen out to how we were doing. If we had many of the fans who are out to commit trouble with stewards or criminal damage and then I wouldnt want any part of it.

GeckoSaint Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 The phrase 'terminated his contract by mutual consent' maybe wheeled out today. Then Lowe has not technically sacked Jan nor has our Dutch friend quit... Everyone's happy???

OldNick Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 the media..as in the daily echo....nothing special then..to be fair it is the local media who are most important because that in the main is wherethe majority of paying cusotmers are brought from. The RC situation got a lot of coverage on Sky sports.Last night i am told there was quite a bit about the trouble on South Today, and interviews with fans with kids where they said they would never bring them back to the stadium.Very sad and it caused the club a lot of damage. So local media is very important, the nationals dont give a damn about us.

trousers Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 I'm amazed that nobody has sussed the real situation. The bust-up with Hockaday has been stage managed to save Lowe. Let me explain the psychology of it. Lowe knows damned well that his bizarre experiment with JP has been a dismal failure, as many of the more savvy people predicted it would be. But being Lowe, it is not easy to admit that he has ever been wrong. So he hatches this plan with Hockaday, realising that since he arrived he has demonstrated some ability and more importantly was cheap into the bargain. Hockaday had gone to bend Lowe's ear about the appalling lack of ideas shown by JP and Lowe had tried to toady up to him and buy his soul by promising him JPs job if he was a good boy. Thus the makings of this scheme began to take form in Lowe's mind. Hockaday was to go along with this scheme that they had had a bust-up and that he was on gardening leave. Lowe would then sack JP and there would be an increasing body of support for Hockaday amongst the fans because seemingly he had the balls to face up to Lowe. Lowe will then leak the story to his chums in the Daily Mail about the circumstances of the bust-up, stating that Hockaday had insisted that the mad experiment should cease immediately and that we should use more experienced players and a 4-4-2 formation, thus increasing support for him amongst the fans. Lowe will then interview candidates to replace JP and his cronies on the board and the hapless Wilde will push Hockaday as the fans' favourite dark horse, he also being the only candidate we can afford. Lowe will reluctantly agree, showing false humility to soften his image, most having believed that humility was something that he was incapable of. Then Lowe is in a win/win situation; if Hockaday succeeds, he can hold his hands up and admit he was wrong, secretly and knowing smugly that he had engineered the whole thing himself. If it all go tits up a la JP, he can distance himself from the whole thing, totally blameless, stating that had we persevered with JP, things would have begun to turn around had he been given a little longer. Machiavellian in its brilliance, eh? Hey, stop treading on my toes!

Saint Billy Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 Makes me laugh that the cause of the crisis holds a crisis meeting. I would prefer to hear that the board is in crisis talks with Lowe and that Lowe is being held accountable for the crisis. How many times is this club going to crap in a toilet with the seat still down. For once get things right!
dubai_phil Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 Looking through some of the problems. We start with an assumption that we have enough cash flow just about, but nothing spare. We then have our bankers being Barclays. What happened with them yesterday? They will be under enormous pressure to minimize any bad debts and securitise their loans. So firing JP means his contract must be paid up (by law) but we don't have the money in the bank to do that and I can see no way Barclays would lend more. We can't afford a "recently" unemployed manager as their salary will be higher than we have planned in the cash flow (yes of course I know the argument about quality & fans and income, but do Barclays?) So, either we have an internal re-shuffle, or IMHO if we haveto pay compensation and bring in a "proper" manager, then somebody has to be sold. It's clear JP has to go but as has been often said on here, be careful what you wish for, things that seem clear to us can often not be that way in the trenches.
trousers Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 So firing JP means his contract must be paid up (by law) You are of course assuming another club won't swoop in and snap him up on the condition he pays up his own contract.

In the circumstances it can only be an internal reshuffle. So who from the coaching staff will be swapping jobs with JP?

SP Saint Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 Perhaps a kind Full Member could start up a 'Jan Appreciation' thread please? He's obviously on his way. I'd like to give him my sympathy for being another perfectly decent bloke who has fallen victim to Lowe's system of appointing coaches into positions beyond their capabilities (Wrigley, Gray, Dodd etc ).
Scummer Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 In the circumstances it can only be an internal reshuffle. So who from the coaching staff will be swapping jobs with JP? Much poorer clubs than us seem to be able to afford to sack their managers. I don't buy this excuse that we haven't got the money to pay JP off. How long is his contract anyway? Even if it's longer than a year I imagine there's a break clause in there somewhere. Surely you wouldn't hire an unproven manager and give him a watertight 2 or 3 year contract?
eelpie Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 If the club has to pay compensation to JP, Lowe will have to sell our best players to cover the costs of this. Yet another example of our playing staff being detrimentally determined by management incompetence.
Saint Billy Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 In the circumstances it can only be an internal reshuffle. So who from the coaching staff will be swapping jobs with JP? What if (as it has been suggested) it is Lowe picking the team and tactics, it will then be Wotte running the first team, JP as chairman and Lowe managing the reserves!
wild-saint Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 I hope for the club's sake you are correct UP but I can't see the man admitting HIS idea is utter claptrap. Personally, and it's only my opinion, I think it's way too late now anyway. Do you give up on everything half way through when things arent going your way? We have large chunk of games to go and are by no stretch of the imagination cut adrift from the pack. All the teams are shyte and some direction and focus will turn things around. The squad is strong enough to stay up IMO. The question is will we make the decision to insert a person capable of offering the focus and direction required. All this talk of it being too late is ****** FACT.

Um Bongo Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 The players have had two days off? Why? They were **** saturday, get them back into training and working. FFS, you play **** and you get 2 days off as a reward.

Surely you wouldn't hire an unproven manager and give him a watertight 2 or 3 year contract? You can be fairly sure that those investment organisations holding our purse strings would underwrite the cost of compensating / replacing Jan if (and of course there is no certainty) it would mean CCC survival. This would be an insignificant 'cost' versus the impact of relegation to League 1.
Marsdinho Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 I guess one optoin would be to have an internal swap around, and hope that JP will be so p1ssed off that he has been demoted and embarrassed publicly, that he resigns.
SP Saint Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 Dodd wasn't appointed by Lowe. No of course he was a Crouch appointee - my mistake.
trousers Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 http://m6live.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4059684.Lowe_calls_Saints_crisis_meeting/ "This morning will be the first time Lowe has been able to speak to Poortvliet since Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to relegation rivals Doncaster. The head coach has been in Holland since the loss, as the players had Sunday and Monday off." That's what disturbs me most....we have possibly our worst result in 30 years (losing to Doncaster at home must be up there with a shout) and what happens? The players and management take a two day break. Cue the 'excuse' that "there's no game next week so no need to rush players back" but what message does it send out when the players aren't summonsed into work for two days following such a poor day at the office? Stachan would have had them in at 6am on the Sunday (or at least told them to turn up then and not do so himself...!) This institutional apathy sums it up for me....
Weston Saint Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 Lowe will meet the coaches and then address the players. He will no doubt continue to endorse the "Dutch" way and perhaps give Wotte a more prominent role as joint head coach with JP. He will site our financial position as being a major factor but will tell the players he will keep faith with their undoubted talent and continue to support their development. That is my take on the meeting today without any inside or outside knowledge. Hope I am wrong though!

SaintRobbie Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 http://m6live.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4059684.Lowe_calls_Saints_crisis_meeting/ JP is about to be sacked by the looks of it. And his assistant coach has already been put on gardening leave. A step in the right direction. But, Lowe has to realise that this was HIS appointment and HIS call to go for this system. It is an admission of failure and so along with JPs sacking Lowe himself HAS to leave the club now for good. If he dares to stay on after this falacy then I am afraid the fans will really lose the plot. Time to go Lowe - forever.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 20 January, 2009 Posted 20 January, 2009 Relevant or not but someone said on another thread they heard Fulthorpe speaking to Cowen and said something along the lines of 'we will be in charge by Wednesday' ?
