I had totally overlooked the the possibility of contingency payments in my desire for them to win bugger all.
angelman Posted 18 April, 2019 Share Posted 18 April, 2019 (edited) No idea. Read it in the on line papers last week. Not sure which one. It was something like £5m for van Dijk and £10m for various other players. If the press say it, then it could be made up/wrong/embellished/accurate (you choose). EDIT - found it: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/6206848/liverpool-southampton-virgil-van-dijk-sadio-mane-dejan-lovren-nathaniel-clyne-adam-lallana-champions-league-real-madrid/ (and it is a year old this one) Edited 18 April, 2019 by angelman

Jeez Eurovision is the whole point of this thread, the rest is just stuff and nonsense! Lighthouse is having a Eurovision party again this year, bigger and better than previous years because he has booked a Marquee for his back garden! TWar Posted 18 April, 2019 Share Posted 18 April, 2019 What happens if Chelsea/Arsenal win Europa and Liverpool/Spurs win CL? Here is what someone on the internet said which may clear this up: "No, a maximum of five teams from a particular league can play in the Champions League. English Premier League has four (4) Champions League quota. For instance, if the following circumstances occur, then five (5) teams will qualify for the Champions League:- League Table:- 1. Arsenal 2. Chelsea 3. Manchester Utd 4. Liverpool 5. Manchester City (Champions League Winner) 6. Tottenham (Europa League Winner) If this circumstance occur (which will be near impossible), Manchester City and Tottenham will qualify to the Champions League. However, according to UEFA regulations, no country can have more than five clubs participating in the Champions League. So, the top three, ie. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester Utd will qualify for the Champions League, while Liverpool will play in the Europa League despite finishing fourth." Bizarrely this was a live topic on this forum in the seasons we finished sixth/seventh, although I think it was mainly about people trying to concoct scenarios where the team in eighth place qualify for the Europa (spoiler- they never do). Dark Munster Posted 18 April, 2019 Share Posted 18 April, 2019 What happens if Chelsea/Arsenal win Europa and Liverpool/Spurs win CL? If any winners finish 4th or higher it makes no difference (no extra CL spots). But if Chelsea/Arsenal win Europa and Spurs win CL, and both winners finish below 4th: then the 4th placed team is SOL and won't qualify for the CL. Relegation permutations are much easier!
