whiteleySaint30 Posted 23 March, 2019 Posted 23 March, 2019 Making a day of this one and getting an early train. Any ideas for best away pubs?
Saint Garrett Posted 23 March, 2019 Posted 23 March, 2019 We parked in Lewes last time, there are a few decent pubs not far from the station we went to.
The Cat Posted 23 March, 2019 Posted 23 March, 2019 Evening Star near the station is pretty good. It's Darkstar brewery so loads of decent ale if that's your thing.
LGTL Posted 23 March, 2019 Posted 23 March, 2019 Just don't go near the stadium as there's nothing there. Stick to the city centre.
John Boy Saint Posted 23 March, 2019 Posted 23 March, 2019 As above Lewes is the better option, even more so if you are going by car. Park at the station, have a beer round the corner take the train to the ground, get “Sardine” train back to Lewes and you are out of dodge on the A27 easy peasy.
red&white56 Posted 23 March, 2019 Posted 23 March, 2019 If you are in Lewes then try the Harvey's pub - John Harvey's tavern, just opposite to Harvey's brewery shop, about 5 mins from the train station. however they serve Harvey's best bitter at the Amex, when I was there for the Caracao Cup earlier this season it was a good pint - quite unusual for a football ground.
arfurdent Posted 25 March, 2019 Posted 25 March, 2019 also watch the closure of rail services around Brighton on 30 - 31 March. Buses used from Three bridges to Brighton.
st alex Posted 25 March, 2019 Posted 25 March, 2019 If you're drinking then ignore the suggestions to drive there and back. Brighton's got much better options then Lewes anyway, loads of great little victorian boozers. Not sure about 'away' pubs, but if you're after a half decent pint in a half decent old pub then the St James Tavern and the Park Cresent were both ones that I've been to before and enjoyed, and the Battle of Trafalgar near the Station. The Park Cresent also does the best Sunday lunch I've had anywhere. The Great Eastern, The Basket Makers Arms, The Pond in the Lanes were all good as well. Although it's about 5 years since I went to these establishments.

Lord Duckhunter Posted 25 March, 2019 Posted 25 March, 2019 Where’s the best Real ale. Went last season but as it was an early Sunday kick off, confined ourselves to the Wetherspoons. Going up on Friday with the snap dragon (thinking I was planning ahead) but she’s just announced “if you think I’m traipsing around Brighton Friday night to check out pubs for your sad mates, you’re very much mistaken “. ****ing women......
