Edmonton Saint Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 Seriously how is he still starting in the Premier League? He is such a limited defender and seems to be on a single handed mission to take us down. Wasn't considered good enough for Middlesbrough when he joined them on loan in the championship, and yet he is a guaranteed starter? And to cap off the tomfoolery we are paying this joke of a defender 50k a week.
Batman Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 (edited) Woeful, that is the best way to describe him. Should be absolutely no where near our team. Find it utterly mental how fans said he was better (or at least, just as good as) than Harry Maguire. Even today, some throw abuse at you if you dare say he is a terrible player. Jesus, he could not hold down a place when loaned to the championship then all of a sudden, became a starter for us - even when we had a defender good enough to start for Juventus sat on the bench. Heisenberg Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 We sat back and applauded while Les Reed sold off the valuables. What did we all expect? Squad is F'in sh1t now. Stephen's included
beatlesaint Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 I’ve said it before but Stephens would probably be a decent holding midfielder, he is NOT a central defender and probably never will be.
Lighthouse Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 I’ve never rated him and was surprised he was so highly thought of when being mediocre in a very defensive Puel team. I also didn’t understand the argument that a fairly standard shirt pull was justification for going full Harlem Globetrotter against Burnley. He got off very lightly compared to Hoedy but now the latter has gone there is nobody to distract fans from Jack’s many limitations.
supersonic Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 The fact Ralph seems to think he's good enough to pick him every weeks is bemusing. Must look like Maldini in training...

shurlock Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 It’s not only a mistake to start him but to play in the centre of the 3 CBs is criminal - a position that requires positional nous, the ability to read the game and communicate effectively with the other CBs. He has none of those qualities.
derry Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 FFS week after week Stephens makes massive goal bearing mistakes. Burnley, Cardiff now today he comes strolling out of defence like VVD then loses the ball and again two goals. The problem is he thinks he's really good on the ball. He needs to act like a defender, take no chances and get the ball out wide in the opponents half. We are going down if this bloke plays. If he does he needs one instruction, stop ****ing around and put your foot through it. He doesn't even like heading the ball.

Whitey Grandad Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 Indeed! If he must play, then stick him wider. How much wider? I would prefer him sitting in the coach in the car park. Won’t head the ball, can’t pass reliably, doesn’t mark anybody and stick to them. Why does anybody pick him to play?
eelpie Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 We sat back and applauded while Les Reed sold off the valuables. What did we all expect? /QUOTE] Not my memory. We were appalled that Reed constantly sold quality players, making do with cheap replacements.

Manuel Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 Just regarding the second goal, he did mess about in a dangerous area but Gunn has to take some of the flack for passing it directly to the opposition rather than hoofing it. He had time to clear it.
Dalek2003 Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 We sat back and applauded while Les Reed sold off the valuables. What did we all expect? Squad is F'in sh1t now. Stephen's included Not all of us.
davefoggy Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 I thought Yoshida & Stephens partnership was ok in the past
Ultimatt Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 Puel was a miracle worker getting us to 8th with half a season of Stephens/Yoshida protecting Forster.
Dark Munster Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 Just regarding the second goal, he did mess about in a dangerous area but Gunn has to take some of the flack for passing it directly to the opposition rather than hoofing it. He had time to clear it. Not just some, Gunn should take all of the flak for not hoofing it.
Dark Munster Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 Puel was a miracle worker getting us to 8th with half a season of Stephens/Yoshida protecting Forster. He's now available.
Ultimatt Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 Looks like Stephens has the same agent as Forster. His talents are clearly wasted in football, he should be the one negotiating brexit.
woodsaint Posted 24 February, 2019 Posted 24 February, 2019 Not just some, Gunn should take all of the flak for not hoofing it. He was sliding to keep it in when he maybe he should have let it run for a corner. Stephens put him in the mess though. How many mistakes does he have to make before enough is enough. Back four rest of the season with Bednarek and Yoshi please
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 Stephens needs a rest. His confidence is shot to ribbons.
10i Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 RH has to take much of the blame too for starting him again and again, when week after week he is gifting Goals to the Opponent and costing us vital Points. He could have started this one with a back 4 or Yoshida. Stephen's confidence can't be shot too much as you would need some ability if you may believe in yourself... For two years now Stephens shows that the only thing he really has at this level is passion, which for sure is not enough...
Saint Garrett Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 He's dross - would struggle to get in the majority of Championship sides. Not good enough on the ball, not good enough in the air, gets pushed off the ball, doesn't read the game particularly well. He shouldn't be anywhere near a premier league first XI.
Roo1976 Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 I’ve said it before but Stephens would probably be a decent holding midfielder, he is NOT a central defender and probably never will be. good call can tackle pass and set pieces good in but defensivly seems not at ease with the surroundings.
Bad Wolf Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 Stephens needs a rest. His confidence is shot to ribbons. He needs to be sold. He is not good enough.
OldNick Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 He needs to be sold. He is not good enough.who will buy a player like him on nearly 50k a week? Les and co gave him a ridiculous contract.
St Lej Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 who will buy a player like him on nearly 50k a week? Les and co gave him a ridiculous contract. Yep, just as he did with a fair few others. Les has crippled the club with these kind of decisions.
Bad Wolf Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 In many ways, fair play to the lad. Imagine being on that amount of money and being sh1te and STILL being played too.
SaintsLoyal Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 We sat back and applauded while Les Reed sold off the valuables. What did we all expect? Squad is F'in sh1t now. Stephen's included Not much can be done, if players want to leave apart from getting a top price. Its what happened next is our problem and replacing them with inferior or relying on squad players that previously couldnt get a game.
DuncanRG Posted 25 February, 2019 Posted 25 February, 2019 Thought he did well with Yoshida after Van Dijk left and has had more good performances than bad for us. Unfortunately, most of the bad ones have been in the past few weeks.
Edmonton Saint Posted 21 April, 2019 Author Posted 21 April, 2019 Another shambolic performance from our league one defender. So limited it’s not even funny anymore
OttawaSaint Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 Unfortunately our hands were tied today with the JVs out. Would love him to do well but he just isn’t competent enough at defending. He’d probably be a decent DCM in the championship but his decision making and marking are not good enough for Premier level. We really need a new CB and let JVest, MY and JB fight it out to play alongside him. Priorities are a CB and a ST/FWD.

Heisenberg Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 Jack just needs his own song..... He's one of our own He's one of our own Stephen's is dire, but he's better than Harry Maguire Jack is on fire WE HATE POMPEY Repeat x 11
East Kent Saint Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 His first start in two months and only because Vest failed late fitness test , hardly being picked as Ralph’s first choice!
beatlesaint Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 His first start in two months and only because Vest failed late fitness test , hardly being picked as Ralph’s first choice! To be honest I would rather see what this Alfie Jones is like if we find ourselves this short again. He can’t be any worse surely
Matthew Le God Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 We should have played 4-2-2-2 from the start of the game. With Ward-Prowse in midfield and Ramsey at right back. Stephens is a disaster waiting to happen.

simo Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 Another shambolic performance from our league one defender. So limited it’s not even funny anymore Except all the goals cam from the other side of defence and were mainly down to a poor midfield !?
Greenridge Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 Except all the goals cam from the other side of defence and were mainly down to a poor midfield !? If you didn’t notice it in the match you might want to watch the highlights. Virtually every attack was down our right and they had joy pretty much every time.
Charlie Wayman Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 U Priorities are a CB and a ST/FWD. Our priorities are a whole new team with exception of Gunn
benjii Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 Steven's will be a Fulham player next season. Loan or perm? It would be a result to get his wages off the books.
diggers Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 Dont know if I'm honest, daft **** was discussing it with three agents in his local a couple of weeks ago within three feet of my earwigging.
Batman Posted 21 April, 2019 Posted 21 April, 2019 Fulham's terrible transfer policy continues Saying that, Stephens MIGHT do well in the championship this time round....if he goes
