suewhistle Posted 18 February, 2019 Share Posted 18 February, 2019 Interesting article in The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2019/feb/17/everythings-a-little-too-cosy-in-footballs-game-of-family-fortunes Relevance to Saints? Well, not mentioned in the article was the two years that Anthony Pulis spent at our club. Who can possibly forget him?
Saint Troy Posted 18 February, 2019 Share Posted 18 February, 2019 its quite an interesting subject, it happens in all walks of life and all industries on some level really. I think it gets vey interesting though when its not someone directly involved eg whats happened at cardiff - thats more akin to a pay off of an agent than nepatism
nta786 Posted 18 February, 2019 Share Posted 18 February, 2019 Nepotism happens everywhere and tbh it is an understandable concept as to why it happens anyway. elites are self-perpetuating and it isn’t a meritocratic society just yet
Badger Posted 18 February, 2019 Share Posted 18 February, 2019 I seem to remember Lawrie's son Chris McMenemy was on our books as a player, then the coaching staff.
beatlesaint Posted 18 February, 2019 Share Posted 18 February, 2019 I seem to remember Lawrie's son Chris McMenemy was on our books as a player, then the coaching staff. He was yeah. Pretty sure he ended up at Newcastle at some point - possibly in Keegan's days there?
suewhistle Posted 18 February, 2019 Author Share Posted 18 February, 2019 Nepotism has certainly always been around in all walks of life but there's a difference between giving somebody a leg up or first chance compared with long term support for incompetence, as in AP's case. Kingsland Red Posted 18 February, 2019 Share Posted 18 February, 2019 Not quite sure about the Pulis nepotism at Saints as ( very fortunately) Tony Pulis has yet to manage Saints. However when our incumbent manager bought his son, who's knees lasted 20 minutes, fans' concern was evident long before we were relegated.

I saw AP play a few times at Staplewood utter utter rubbish - shouted a lot couldnt do it himself. At least with the one with the shot knees I got to sit near Louise.....she was probably better than Davenport too
Kingsland Red Posted 18 February, 2019 Share Posted 18 February, 2019 .....I think most of the 32,000 in the stadium were better than Davenport

Chris McMenemy played local football for a while. Not much better than average and never paid his subs!!
Turkish Posted 19 February, 2019 Share Posted 19 February, 2019 I always thought if it wasn’t for Dalian Atkinsons rather, Ron, he’d have never made it as a proffesional footballer.

Pulis junior was at Saints and he owed his place in football to his dad. The article is about nepotism in sport.
