saint77 Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 If the ref sees that penalty appeal again at half time he’ll try and make amends second half I reckon Why he got it spot ob
monosaint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Burnley are more route one than any other team I have seen this season. Need to be aware and focused.
SW5 SAINT Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Merson baying for a Burnley pen and part of his justification is that they are ‘at home’???? **** He wasn't baying for a penalty, in fact he was at first expressing his doubts. He was just surprised as usually those sort of decisions DO go to the home team.......
beatlesaint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 So we are back to a team with no Ings, Bertrand, Lemina and Hojberg, looking short on quality again. yes but it’s ok cos we have a smaller and more manageable squad - just think of all those wages the club is saving
Plumstead_Saint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 That was a penalty all day long. McCarthy looking mediocre again. Slattery was also v lucky not to get a card, so understand Burnley fans frustration - not a single pen given to them in 67 games! As pointed out, ref will be looking to make amends 2nd half Think we've done ok and passed the ball well at times, but agree that JWP would be better in centre. Target is doing well IMO
shurlock Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 This is inevitable I would venture Weren't Burnley denied a pen in last season's fixture?
mrfahaji Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Bardsley really is a horrible piece of sh1t. Makes Ashley Barnes seem tolerable, ha. Talking of Barnes, not really sure where he was meant to go, would only be ‘engineering’ if he kicked the ball away and deliberately didn’t go for it.
striker Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 My guess would be a reoccurrence of his recent hamstring injury. Perhaps it just felt tight and he came off as a precaution Did Long actually come on the pitch for Ings? I don't remember seeing him out there. Maybe we just played with 10?
austsaint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 As turgid a half as you are likely to see. Such little quality with Saints today - Romeu on his own in midfield; if JWP should be in the team it's not right back or wing back - if Valery isn't good enough, why wasn't a replacement RB secured? Now that Ings is injured there is so little creativity, width or speed. Armstrong very sloppy at times. If Ralph wants to win a game like this, he really has to bring on someone like Sims. Not seeing the value of Slattery at this point. Given we should be a goal down it looks like a long second half to get a scoreless draw!
Batman Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Weren't Burnley denied a pen in last season's fixture? and the ref also played a part in our goal (if I remember rightly)
mrfahaji Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 The fact the referee didn't give him a second booking makes me think he instantly regretted the decision.... I thought the yellow was for the dissent tbh. It doesn’t always have to be a booking if it’s not a penalty.
adrian lord Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 He wasn't baying for a penalty, in fact he was at first expressing his doubts. He was just surprised as usually those sort of decisions DO go to the home team....... Le Tiss also pulled him up on the ‘at home’ point.
doggface Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Started well at least! Our CB's have done really well, as has Romeu. Redmond OK. Other than that, pretty poor. Ings made of glass. Don't like JWP at RB, rather Valery and move Prowsey forwards. Slattery not ready. Burnley, **** poor but would take a draw.
qwertyell Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 0-0 h/t. The referee won't be able to save us from the inevitable in the second half. We were bright for the first 20 minutes, but have been appalling since Ings banked his appearance fee and buggered off. Burnley should've had a penalty (terrible keeping from McCarthy) and somehow didn't score from a scramble after a corner. Armstrong the worst player on the pitch. What is he? I know he's popped up with the odd goal, but a midfielder who can't control the ball inside of three touches, tackle or pass is a curious animal indeed. Slattery is way short of being up to men's football. Every opposition player, no matter how slow, has been able to run straight past him while he plods around aimlessly time and again. Crouch is going to bundle home a filthy winner, isn't he? Grim. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
Tamesaint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Not looking good. What was Ings injury? He walked off by himself. Did they give any report? Love the Burnley players freaking out on every ref call now. They are going to lose control. Yes their mouthing off at every decision against them is tiresome. Barnes 's reaction when he ran into McCarthy and didn't get the penalty was worse than Zaha on Wednesday night.
OttawaSaint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 personally, I think JwP not being in the middle is taking some quality away from us. lots of huff and puff but have defended well enough and had clear luck from the ref (again) Proof you ain’t a Saints fan. We’ve been jobbed by the refs for years. Whoopee do, we got a couple of decisions...

supersonic Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Look completely different side without Ings and not in a good way. JWP ineffective out on the right, Slattery looks tidy but should have been booked and we were lucky not to give away a pen. Really haven't created anything for about 20 mins - all set up for a 1-0 Burnley win. We aren't as good as some people think we are!!
tisspahars Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Burnley at bigger than 2/1 on Betfair seems awfully big judged by the mood on here....

Ings is never out for just a week, which is going to be a BIG problem for us.

Bad Wolf Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 1-0 Burnley and Crouch to score. You can see it coming ages away.
Ohio Saint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Trousers did us a favour by saying it has 0-0 written all over it. I'm a fan of his tactics, and am still hopeful we can get a winning goal.

Sheaf Saint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 For who? Us. Header from a JWP corner (didn't see who it came off).
OttawaSaint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Lively start to 2nd. Should be ahead, keeper beaten, Barnsley cleats off of the line.
OttawaSaint Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Great header JWP. Good save Heaton. Playing better.
Jonnyboy Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Keeper handled that over the line, corner surely. Edit - Get in!
Batman Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 Redmond taking the game to them brilliant from him this half
St Chalet Posted 2 February, 2019 Posted 2 February, 2019 They’ll come at us now, next goal wins IMHO.
