Window Cleaner Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 (edited) https://www.completesports.com/southampton-join-race-to-sign-e12m-osimhen-from-wolsburg/ Sort of player of which we should beware. These microleagues are just too poor to appraise ability from. We'll just end up with another shedload of Clasies, De Ridders, Boufals and Carrillos. There is talent in the English lower leagues, that's where we should be looking for 12 million quid players not Belgium, Norway or Cyprus. Might even end up like that bloke Everton bought last summer, can't play for them because he doesn't meet work permit requirements. Edited 23 May, 2019 by Window Cleaner

You gotta take a punt sometimes. Out of the 2 or duffers, you'll get a diamond.

There is no right or wrong place to look. You can go down to League 1 and find AOC or Gazzaniga, or look abroad and find Moi or Mane. Our scouting just needs to be a lot better. In Carrillo's case, 10 minutes on Google would have been a start.
Danbert Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 We absolutely could if we were to get rid of (rough figures) McCarthy £5m Cedric £10m Stephens £5m Hoedt £10m Reed £5m Clasie £2m Elyounoussi £10m Hesketh £2m Boufal £12m Carrillo £8m Austin £3m Gallagher £5m Thats a total of ca £80m. Might have overpriced a couple and possibly underpriced a few, but high level we should be able to get somewhere between £60 - £80m for them. And of course the half million a week off the wage bill... You have massively overestimated the value of almost all of those players, IMHO.

Because a league where Billy Sharp is one of the top scorers is clearly a cut above the sort of leagues we got Mané and Van Dijk from And Boufal and Carrillo came from France. Same clubs from where Chelsea got Hazard and City got Bernardo Silva in fact, but yeah, lets ignore these clubs and limit our search to a league where Dwight Gayle, Jay Rodriguez, Danny Graham, Lewis Grabban and David McGoldrick all scored at least 15 goals each.

We will be lucky to get 15-20 million from sales this summer imo.

Key player in the Championship
Dusic Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 If Reed went for anything under a few million it would be awful business. Key player in the ChampionshipAnd Gallagher should be able to fetch £8-10m unless this year has reduced it. Pretty sure last summer there was chat of teams willing to pay 7 or 8m for him.
Nordic Saint Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 You have massively overestimated the value of almost all of those players, IMHO. He certainly has. What club would be stupid enough to pay £10m for Elyounoussi or Hoedt or £8m for Carrillo? We might get token fees for them of around £2m but it's more likely we won't be able to sell them at all and will have to try to find clubs to take them on loan.
manji Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 I think we are forgetting Ralph has a wealth of knowledge of European Players and a lot of contacts. He also has a lot of say on transfers under the new restructuring.

We were stupid enough to spend roughly £50m on those 3 players....
jamesfp1 Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 Anyone know how much we'll get for Mane and Van Dijk CL final appearance/win?

Window Cleaner Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 We are looking at a Serie A Goalie apparently. Just what we need, more goalies..
S-Clarke Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-fiorentina-3-club-di-premier-league-si-muovono-per-dragowski-1249757 TMW - Fiorentina, 3 Premier League clubs move for Dragowski The Premier League raises the pressing for Bartlomiej Dragowski , goalkeeper of Empoli on loan (dry) from Fiorentina. "My future? For the moment I think only of Empoli," the Polish class '97 had confessed in recent days. But as the last day approaches, the topic gets hotter and hotter. The Premier comes forward - In recent days we had told you about Parma 's interest , but according to the latest collections from TMW in England the goalkeeper leaving Fiorentina has a lot of market. West Ham observers followed him live, but in addition to the Hammers, his name also appeals to Southampton and Huddersfield, all companies that have already had the first exploratory contacts to understand the costs and conditions of the operation.
capitalsaint Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 I think we are forgetting Ralph has a wealth of knowledge of European Players and a lot of contacts. He also has a lot of say on transfers under the new restructuring. Except we don't know how much of a say he gets nor what is the new structure.

We might get token fees for them of around £2m but it's more likely we won't be able to sell them at all and will have to try to find clubs to take them on loan. The reason that Hoedt and Carrillo are out on loan is that we couldn't sell them. If we could sell them for 10m quid, we would have done so. I doubt their performances whilst out on loan have made potential suitors more keen, though Carrilo has been linked with Panathaniakos, (not a team who have 10 million quid lying around, or indeed one that could afford his current wages). If we can get them loaned out again and don't have to contribute to their wages we'll have pulled off a blinder.
The Cat Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 Except we don't know how much of a say he gets nor what is the new structure. He'll be getting a lot more of a say than the last 3 managers.
Katalinic Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 So are we signing anyone or what? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz The transfer window hasn't even been open for a week...
Suhari Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 The transfer window hasn't even been open for a week... I think that's the point: what's taking so long? Les out, ffs.
Dark Munster Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 Except we don't know how much of a say he gets nor what is the new structure. I recall Adam Leitch on the Total Saints Podcast saying the club is bending over backwards to please Ralph, and he (Leitch) was surprised how much they are for some of the things Ralph wants. So it appears he has a lot of say. Good news if true, I think.

LeBizzier69 Posted 23 May, 2019 Posted 23 May, 2019 Has McCarthy done something wrong, or have an attitude problem? Seems odd that a steady keeper who was our player of the year last year should now be surplus to requirements.

Nordic Saint Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 Has McCarthy done something wrong, or have an attitude problem? Seems odd that a steady keeper who was our player of the year last year should now be surplus to requirements. We need a goalkeeper who hasn't been coached by Dave Watson. They all start well here until his coaching takes effect. Wouldn't it be simpler, though, rather than constantly changing goalkeepers, just to change their coach?
SFC Forever Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 that would be much to simple for our club to deduce.
Dusic Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 Interesting that we haven't really been linked with any CBs yet.
Window Cleaner Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 Interesting that we haven't really been linked with any CBs yet. Probably because we already have so many.
Saint Garrett Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 Has McCarthy done something wrong, or have an attitude problem? Seems odd that a steady keeper who was our player of the year last year should now be surplus to requirements. Think it's more to do with the fact, we can't afford to have 3 first team keepers, no-one will take Forster, he wants to stay, and McCarthy actually might have some teams that want him. I think it's harsh but the future is Gunn, and if McCarthy actually wants to play games he's going to have to leave to get them.
DT Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 Probably because we already have so many. Shame they're mostly very average
Window Cleaner Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 Shame they're mostly very average Yes but we need to shift some before we take on any more, they'll probably be average as well. Really good CBs are extremely hard to find, probably because every "big club" in Europe wants 4 or 5 on their books leaving the dross for everyone else. Why look we paid about 18 million for Hoedt and over 20, I believe, for Vestergaard who's OK but not top, top .
DT Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 Probably because we already have so many. Shame they're mostly very average
SuperSAINT Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 Interesting that we haven't really been linked with any CBs yet. Hoedt is back for next season
Useful Idiot Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 Hoedt is back for next season With Ralph's training plan he'll be like a new signing!
Badger Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 We need a goalkeeper who hasn't been coached by Dave Watson. They all start well here until his coaching takes effect. Wouldn't it be simpler, though, rather than constantly changing goalkeepers, just to change their coach? No doubt Les Reed secured his services on a 15 year contract with terms no other club would look to match, and we can't afford to offload.
Crab Lungs Posted 24 May, 2019 Posted 24 May, 2019 A lot people saying McCarthy wasn’t very good despite the horrendous team he had in front of him yet proclaiming Gunn as a better keeper. Just like they did when Forster displaced Boruc. Weird.
