Summer Transfer Window 2019

My mate who has Bristol ST raves about him, very good on the ball etc. This is he wasn’t even getting in their team towards the end of the season, as he ‘wasn’t ready for championship’. Which makes me think the £15m they want would be insane.

He might well be brilliant in a few years and £15m might look a bargain, but I don’t think we’re in a position to take that risk with so many other positions more of a priority this summer

Exactly the type of signing we should be making IMO.

Young, English talent. Sign, develop, sell...

Some will disagree I'm sure, but I would like to see us try and sign Gary Cahill on a free.

Yes, a big step away from our usual style of transfer. However we need to get our defence sorted and have a proper leader in there. He's won everything with Chelsea and barring any major injuries, he'll be good for a season or two.

Wages might be an issue though - as they always have been to be fair.

Mitrovic is quality, proper target man that we've struggled without since Pelle left. Holds the ball up, strong, good finisher, no brainer. £30m is the new £15m. Not sure whether we could use Targett as bait for that deal and bring in this young lad from Bristol City to learn from Bertrand.

Is he a good finisher though? The times I've watched him play he seems to need 3-4 attempts to get it on target.

Doesn’t suit Ralph’s Style, at all. Can’t see it happening, not at £30m anyway.

Well since Ralph has taken over I've watched us bang a hell of a lot of long balls straight up the pitch, and then watched our forward line win practically no headers or demonstrate any ability to hold the ball up whatsoever, so the ball comes straight back at us. So I think someone like Mitrovic would work pretty well the way we currently play especially in the later parts of games when we need to relieve the pressure on our back line. I

Agree in principle. But what if we use our limited funds to sign him at the expense of a more experienced, battle hardened CB and he makes a load of errors / is physically outmuscled and we get relegated as a result. Would that be the right thing to do? He literally can’t get into a mid table championship side’s defence. Not sure we have the money to buy players who aren’t capable of being immediately stepping into the first team and making us better. For clarity, think he has played like 5 games as CB in his entire career

As someone said on another thread, we should be looking to bid for someone like Tomori from Chelsea. When we played Derby in the cup he already looked better than what we've got.

Moreover, the club's PR should really start hammering on RH's similarities to Klopp in terms of style of play, enthusiasm etc. Klopp's stock is so high at the moment that it could give us a slight edge in recruitment, particularly with younger British players who might see us as a fast track to playing at that level and in that style.

Fair point. I guess it comes down to what formation Ralph wants to play.

If it’s 4222 we’d still need a ‘quick play of the shoulder’ type CF to play with him. He’d effectively replace Ings (not saying that a bad thing), but I can’t see us spending c.£50m on 2 strikers in one window.

If he’s looking to play 1 up top and have a focal point then I’d be all for it.

Personally I can’t see it happening.

Yes, I'm puzzled why you would think otherwise! Players who win the Premier League golden boot have penalties included in their total.

I always look at the non penalty table being the purist

5' 8" centre back? Unless he's got a hell of a jump on him, I suspect his career will be spent at full back.

Yeah, I made a dog's dinner of the conversation from 1.78m, which is what Wikipedia claims he is. 5.8 feet is not the same as 5' 8". He's 5' 10" according to that - but I'm more than prepared to believe he's taller, having never seen him (or maybe I have but didn't notice him).

A tall left sided centre back with pace is something we could seriously use (albeit he sounds like one for the future).

Luca Jovic looked a right handful tonight for Eintract Frankfurt although after a bit of skim reading looks like a lot of teams are interested
Somehow I don't think we'll be in for the most in demand young striker in European football on the market. Barcelona or Madrid.

Lots of pace and left footedness there.

Your personal method is irrelevant. Of course (non-shoot out) penalties count in goal tallies.

Personally I don't count free kicks either, or headers if you're over 6 foot tall, unfair advantage. Turns out when you minus off penalties and free kicks for messi and headers too for ronaldo, neither are actually that good.

Mitrovic has scored 11 goals this season last bloody player to do that for us was Mane/Pelle he also has three assists and is first in the PL for Aerial battles won Imagine having a striker upfront who could actually win some headers when the ball is pumped aimlessly forward from our back line. I don't now if Mitrovic is the answer or if we would ever spend 30 million on him.... but I really want us to get a forward that can win the ball in the air, hold it up with his back to goal to bring other players into the game and get his head on our crosses to turn them into goals (ideally with a mean penalty and free kick ability)…..god I miss having Lambert upfront.

Us seemingly moving away from the Lambert/Pelle model of striker was one of many misguided moves we made.

SSN reporting Man Utd close to agreeing £15m fee with Swansea for Daniel James.
Not that we would likely have got him, but this has to be bad news for clubs like ours if it happens.

This is 'our' market, last thing you want is the big clubs dropping into it and moving for the likes of James, Adams, Bowen etc.

Moving away from Lambert/Pelle type strikers is why we finished 6th in 2016. Pelle got injured, Long replaced him and we ended up with the 2nd best record 2nd half of 2015/16. A one paced lump upfront is the last thing I want, if our defenders punt aimless long balls forward I would rather replace them.

Wierd then that we've had Shane long available since Pelle left and err yeah it's been great.....

I’m sure I read somewhere that Giggs had recommended him to OGS.

Great move for the lad from a wage/prestige perspective, though hard to see him being a regular there. Will probably end up out on loan somewhere in the next 12 months.
