Pamplemousse Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 ****ing hell we like to make things difficult for ourselves. Everton were shockingingly awful, it's amazing and quite funny to see how backwards they've gone under Marco Silva.
CB Fry Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Decent result against an expensively assembled but pitifully mediocre team. Well done Ralph, great goal JWP.
St Marco Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 That was proper squeaky bum time right there. If that was under the last couple of managers no chance we would of held on. Well done lads, great win. And breathe...

striker Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Thought we were solid all around. Still prefer Cedric outside over either Valery or Targett, but outside we played really well. If we play like that over the next 3 matches we will be well outside the drop zone.
Saint_clark Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 I get that it's 4 minute MINIMUM, but if there's 20 seconds left of the 4 minutes when the ref stops the game for Longs injury then surely we play 20 seconds after the restart, not another 3 minutes?? Disco Stu Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 (edited) Pretty comfortable victory bar extra time (understandable given the 120 minutes midweek). Everton are dross but you can only play whats in front of you. Edited 19 January, 2019 by Disco Stu
Viking Saint Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Great performance, much more solid at the back. Passing looks a lot more assured. MoM between Redmond, who didn't stop running all day, and Vestergaard who didn't put a foot wrong and looked very comfortable. Where did the extra 2 minutes and 10 seconds come from? I know it doesn't matter but **** me that ref seemed to be trying hard to help Everton today. tajjuk Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Over 8 minutes of injury time is ridiculous, would have been an outrage if they had stole a draw in that period. But a deserved win by the sounds of it, shame we couldn't keep a clean sheet and also get the third to just kill the game off though. Everton fans have to be asking questions, they have spend a fortune in the last three windows, they chased a manager and sacked a competent one, and they look poor. NewYorkSaint Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Fantastic fantastic performance. The determination is there for all to see. Hoj, Rom, JWP, and esp Redmond running their socks off. And hunting in packs v v effectively. Our 3 centre-backs strong. I'm so happy to see JWP deliver what he's capable of. That extra confidence will only help him. And hearing St Mary's rocking... all the way over here in New York. That was great too. The rest of the season's going to be fun. Hello again, Football! stknowle Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 GTFI. Tortuous ending but saw it out and totally deserved to. Well played Saints, we are really looking like a decent outfit again with strong performers all over the pitch. Nothing short of miraculous after a season and a half of virtually relentless dross. Baird of the land Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Can't understand the injury time. How you can add an additional 4 minutes when 3 and half of the original 4 were played before long went down. Lovely goal by JWP. Think he was slightly at fault for their goal. Not sure why he did the poor headed clearance rather than volleying it out. Overall a very good display apart the panicky last few minutes. austsaint Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Great win; flattering to Everton to finish within a goal. Magnificent midfield efforts from Hojbjerg and Romeu. Best game I've seen Ward-Prowse play and an exceptionally well taken goal. Redmond good most of the day and special mention to Stephens and Bednarek who controlled things at the back. To think we nearly had Silva!!! Whoever recruited Ralph (was it the other Ralph?) deserves the keys to the City.
washsaint Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Oh dear, Larry will be unhappy tonight as will Efon/Cabbage. JWP MotM for me - outstanding and briliiant, brilliant goal. Not sure Bertrand will waltz back in....the more games Targett is getting the better he is looking. Easy to see why Valery is preferred over Cedric. Cedric was awful again (albeit on the wrong side) Everton very fortunate to only let in 2 - could easily have been 4 or 5. Although we are still close to the bottom 3 I thin Saints should be looking upwards now, not downwards. Some of the much maligned (on here) players I thought were superb: Stephens, JWP, Targett, Valery PLayers looked out on their feet after about 75 minutes (unsurprisingly). Since Ralph has come in it really feels like Saints are on their way back.

qwertyell Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 F-ing get in there! Jesus, it can't ever be easy, can it? Really solid all round performance, I thought. We're still not great on the ball in the final third, but we've found a way to bobble and miscontrol a few decent chances. Belting strike (from open play!) from Ward-Prowse, who was excellent. He seems to have found some much needed tenacity. Hojbjerg was very good, very disciplined. Redmond a constant threat on the counter. Disappointed for the defence that they couldn't get their clean sheet - I thought they deserved it. Barely any Keystone Cops calamaties today. A great win, in the context of being usually garbage at home and having slogged through 120 minutes two days ago. Although in retrospect, that was good practice for the 100+ minutes this f-ing referee played. Onwards! Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Crab Lungs Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Sort of game we need to bring someone on to finish it and make it 3-0. But we bring on Long and all goal threat is gone.. He nearly scored today. And us not closing the game out is nothing to do with his introduction. Time to lose your Gallagher hard-on, I think. Saint Albert Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Another win. Get in there. Well played everyone, particularly JWP, Bednarek, Romeu and Redmond. What a difference a decent manager makes. What an awful performance by the referee. He drove me around the bend. Adding 4 minutes injury time to 4 minutes injury time felt like a mathematical impossibility at the time. Playing on while Long was down and bleeding from the head. Letting them get away with far too many shoves in the back. Hopefully he gets reviewed and demoted, he was a ****ing disgrace.
mcbendy Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 How good was Bednarek? He must have had 10+ headed clearances, several blocks, several interceptions. Would love to see his stats from that game. Rock solid. Redmond is incredibly important to this team - he covers an unbelievable amount of ground at high pace, tracks back well, and his final-third quality is improving, as we have seen. Ings had a good game - important for us up front. Solid performances all round. The weak points were Cedric and Valery. Cedric was reasonably solid defensively by weak passing. Valery pretty good but makes me nervous. Hacked it out for a corner in the last seconds, when it should have gone out for a throw in. On another day they equalise from that corner... PHEW! Three massive points.

verlaine1979 Posted 19 January, 2019 Share Posted 19 January, 2019 Bednarek, Hoj, Romeu and Redmond all excellent. JWP much better second half, and not just for the goal (been waiting for him to strike a moving ball that cleanly for years) - he started to play much more progressively second half, got his head up and played several good balls forward. However, we still need a better option at CB. Bednarek is good, but Stephens is rubbish in the air and Vest seems to struggle getting any distance at all on headed clearances as his timing is wrong 9 times out of 10. Sign someone with similar attributes to the ones Tomori showed midweek to partner Bednarek and we might be getting somewhere.
