Lighthouse Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Steven Davis has joined Rangers on loan, with his contract here expiring in summer. Goodbye Steven and thanks for all the memories.
Colinjb Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Only JWP left from the summer of our promotion now. He was a great servant to us and an absolute bargain. All the best to him back at the club he left for us in the first place.
SuperSAINT Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Couldn't we have just re-named the old thread?
Sheaf Saint Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Good luck Steven, and thanks for your efforts. A true gent and a credit to the club by all accounts. But I'm a little miffed we don't get a fee for him AND we have to pay his wages until July. Might hinder our chances of making any signings this window.
angelman Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 I'm happy enough with a loan, rather than a sale (and who knows what the terms are re his wages?). 6½ years of fantastic service should be rewarded in this way, and not everything should be about making £1 or two. Wishing him all the success with the rest of his footballing career and beyond.
Lighthouse Posted 6 January, 2019 Author Posted 6 January, 2019 Good luck Steven, and thanks for your efforts. A true gent and a credit to the club by all accounts. But I'm a little miffed we don't get a fee for him AND we have to pay his wages until July. Might hinder our chances of making any signings this window. I can't imagine we're paying 100% of his wages and anything saved has got to help. We don't get a fee because nobody is willing to pay it; it's either this or have him sit around here until June.
Heisenberg Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Good luck. Go win the title with Rangers. Might see him move v close to me as Rangers own a house v.close which Joey Barton previously stayed in and more recently Goldson. Have a few at my golf course too. See you soon Davis
Dusic Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 A really clever player, technically excellent and always fit and available until last year. A big part of our success and seems a great bloke as well. Good luck at Rangers. Another leader lost from our dressing room.
austsaint Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Well done Steven Davis - quality person and damn good player at his peak.
Mr Saints Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Top class on and off the pitch from day 1. Will be missed.
Saint Albert Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Good luck Steven Davis. Always comes across as a player of the highest character.
SuperSAINT Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Top pro, always came across as a great bloke. Jack of all trades as a midfielder. Good at everything. Wish him nothing but the best.
nta786 Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 When Rangers write that ‘they’d like to thank us for our cooperation’, is that in other word saying thanks for paying 80% of the wages? Anyway, forget that. Steven, thank you fot a wonderful 6.5 years, served us eell and good luck at Rangers.
LGTL Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Vital in our rise and exactly what we needed after promotion. Good luck!
VectisSaint Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Good luck Steven, and thanks for your efforts. A true gent and a credit to the club by all accounts. But I'm a little miffed we don't get a fee for him AND we have to pay his wages until July. Might hinder our chances of making any signings this window. I can't believe anyone seriously thought we would get a fee for him. He is out of contract in June. We might possibly have got a small fee if the transfer had gone through last summer but doubt that even. Why do you think we are still paying 100% of his wages? Are you party to the details of the deal. Would be odd if that was the case. Don't understand the fixation some have with wages, there is no evidence that we are shipping players out to reduce wages, its purely and simply to free up squad places for new players, either being bought or promoted from the u23s. Wonder what Verlaine and Derry will do now, no hate posts any more, that will be a bonus for the forum.
SuperSAINT Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Vital in our rise and exactly what we needed after promotion. Good luck! The thing I remember the most about his signing is how quiet we kept it. Literally NOTHING leaked about it. Pretty sure the news dropped late on a Friday night.
davefizzy14 Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Thank you Davo for 6 and half years wonderful service to us. Top professional and person who is just a class act. You will be missed. I hope you go and win the title with Rangers, you deserve to! Good luck Davo
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Vital in our rise and exactly what we needed after promotion. Good luck! This.
egg Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Good luck to the bloke. He's been a great servant on and off the pitch and deserves regular football. I suspect his squad place will go to Marcus Barnes.
simo Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Good luck to him , Hope he's that extra bit of quality that will help Rangers win the title over Celtic !
K,Billy's supersound Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 All the best Davis. He gets to play for Rangers again we get a loan fee and free up a space good deal all round.
SuperSAINT Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 All the best Davis. He gets to play for Rangers again we get a loan fee and free up a space good deal all round. Any news on more outgoings or incomings?
SalisburySaints Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 The absolute epitome of what a captain should be. Never heard a negative word from him or about him. Hope the young players at the club learnt a thing or two from him. Hope he wins the title with Rangers.
doddisalegend Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Great player for us over the years, sad to see him go, but I think the PL was getting a bit much for him in the twilight of his career this was a good move for everyone I feel.
Pilchards Posted 6 January, 2019 Posted 6 January, 2019 Been superb for our club and I strongly believe he will return one day as our manager.
washsaint Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Good luck to the guy - great servant to the club. Last couple of seasons he no longer had the legs for the Prem but still gave 100%.
sydenhamssocks Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 All the best Davo. Top pro with a great attitude, probably our best pound-for-pound signing of recent years. Hope he retains a base in he south and returns in coaching capacity in the near future.
Saint86 Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Good luck. Go win the title with Rangers. Might see him move v close to me as Rangers own a house v.close which Joey Barton previously stayed in and more recently Goldson. Have a few at my golf course too. See you soon Davis Hi Glasgow Saint
Cabbage_Face Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Good luck. Really good little player. First of the many out the door this window. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

But I'm a little miffed we don't get a fee for him AND we have to pay his wages until July. Might hinder our chances of making any signings this window. Due to Rangers' restructuring, we got him for next to nothing. His value compared to the price has been immense! Fair enough for him that we do not get in the way of a reconciliation move over pennies...
JRM Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 We definitely miss leaders out on the pitch, need Hoijberg and Romeu to step up and fill that roll. Move makes sense for both clubs, hope he gets to win the league with Rangers this season.
JustMike Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Top pro and a huge miss from the dressing room. Good luck Davo
Shroppie Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Thanks for the great service and good luck back North of the border! Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

You really think we are letting players go just to free up squad space, with no financial impact at all? Do you follow Saints? Have you read any of the Krueger interviews where he talks about us being self-sustaining?
Baird of the land Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Should have happened in the summer if we weren't going to use him. Loved having him at Saints.
SKD Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 £ for £ has to be considered one of our best ever signings... up there with Lambert for me. All the best Davo, he’ll smash it up there with Rangers.
so22saint Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Superb signing, at his best under Adkins, Poch and RK he linked play brilliantly and always chipped in one or two great goals a season. Worth every penny of the fee and his wages, and a top bloke all round (including the time he sang Karaoke in The Jolly Farmer in Winchester dressed as Batman with his little boy and didn't take his mask off the entire time he was in the pub). If we sign a player in replacement with 90% of his professionalism we'll be lucky

eurosaint Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Stevie D teams up with Stevie G ! Good luck and thanks for everything !
eurosaint Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 We definitely miss leaders out on the pitch, need Hoijberg and Romeu to step up and fill that roll. red&white56 Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Quality player, quality captain and a quality farewell. Thank you Steven Davis, will never forget your two goals at White Hart Lane, to help complete the Spurs implosion.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Class act. Great pro, in some ways a throwback to the days when players seemed somewhat normal. Up there as one of my favourite players. Not met one supporter from any of his previous clubs or neutrals with a bad word to say about him. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Foxstone Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 A great servant to the club over the last 6 years or so. An absolute top class professional who gave his all every time he pulled on the shirt. I remember fondly him putting us 2-1 up against Man City away on our first match back in the Prem in 2012. Cheers Davo, Good luck in all you do
SFC Forever Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Steve Davis knew his shortcomings but more importantly knew his best talents and used them to the full. Hard working as a player and a true leader on and off the park. He scored some important goals for us and always gave 100% leading by example. I hope you enjoy your return home to Rangers and finish your career with a flourish. Thank you for your time here Steve.
verlaine1979 Posted 7 January, 2019 Posted 7 January, 2019 Wonder what Verlaine and Derry will do now, no hate posts any more, that will be a bonus for the forum. I never hated him, I just loathed how absurdly overrated he was by some fans. Far better players (Mane, Wanyama etc) would be pilloried for any mistake, while SD could float ineffectively through game after game and be hailed a genius for his ability to pop five yard passes back to our defence. Funny that. So, what I'm trying to say is that my problem was really always with you, rather than with Davis.

How did you know it was him then?
