Stud mark of doom Posted 29 December, 2018 Posted 29 December, 2018 They mentioned on radio 5 today that Billy Sharp is now the joint highest league goal scorer this century - joint with Rickie Lambert (Rooney is third). Not bad having two Saints in the top two. Still think Billy was a little hard done by not having a chance in the prem, having got us there.
Delboy Dave Posted 29 December, 2018 Posted 29 December, 2018 I reckon he was hard done by too. Perhaps the PL was a step too much but we will never know. Olay Olay, olay olay Billy sharp sharp sharp ?
SuperSAINT Posted 29 December, 2018 Posted 29 December, 2018 Always liked Billy Sharp. Didn't let us down when he signed for us either. Would be delighted if he got a chance in the Prem -- Especially with Sheff Utd.
Turkish Posted 29 December, 2018 Posted 29 December, 2018 I reckon he was hard done by too. Perhaps the PL was a step too much but we will never know. Olay Olay, olay olay Billy sharp sharp sharp Great lad and one of those players everyone wants to do well. Met him a couple of times and he is a really decent bloke. Personally I don't think he was up to it as a premier league player which is a shame but that said I think we should have kept him in our first season back, he would have been a decent option to bring on for 15 minutes if we needed a goal and to be blunt he would have contributed an awful lot more than Mayuka did, whose only memorable moment was being brought down to win a penalty in the home game v Villa when we were already 3-1 up, other than that he might as well never have played for us.
Dusic Posted 29 December, 2018 Posted 29 December, 2018 Great achievement. He had a good impact during his time at Saints. He clearly wasn't PL level though - no room for sentiment. Essentially replaced by Jay Rod.
Saints foreva Posted 29 December, 2018 Posted 29 December, 2018 Spoke to him the weekend we went up, when all the players were out around Bedford place. Top bloke, glad to see he's doing well at his boyhood club. His goals helped us get over the line.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 30 December, 2018 Posted 30 December, 2018 Decent for us in 2nd tier and a nice bloke who helped us get over the line just like Fox.
Danbert Posted 1 January, 2019 Posted 1 January, 2019 Billy Sharp made history as Sheffield United climbed up to third, courtesy of a 3-0 win at Wigan. The club captain’s 54th minute goal, a close-range finish set up by David McGoldrick – who had scored the first – made Sharp the highest goalscorer in English league football in the 21st century with 220 strikes, overtaking Rickie Lambert.

alpine_saint Posted 2 January, 2019 Posted 2 January, 2019 I fail to see how he could have done worse for us than some of the dross we've had since Pele left. We let him go far too early / easily. Delighted the lad is enjoying his football and doing well. Expect him to hammer some past us next season.
norwaysaint Posted 2 January, 2019 Posted 2 January, 2019 Anyone else get that song in their heads when they see his name? Bill-y Sharp doo doo doodoo doo doo
Bad Wolf Posted 2 January, 2019 Posted 2 January, 2019 Great achievement. He had a good impact during his time at Saints. He clearly wasn't PL level though - no room for sentiment. Essentially replaced by Jay Rod. In what way was he "clearly" not good enough? He was never tried.
Stud mark of doom Posted 2 January, 2019 Author Posted 2 January, 2019 Good Championship player. End. Where “good” is defined as the best so far this century, in terms of goals. End.
Cabbage_Face Posted 2 January, 2019 Posted 2 January, 2019 Where “good” is defined as the best so far this century, in terms of goals. End. Yep. Good Championship player. Nothing more or less. End.

Victor Posted 2 January, 2019 Posted 2 January, 2019 .... actually went one ahead of RL tapping in a cross from David McGoldrick who scored 43 goals for us one season I seem to recall (no, not the first team - obviously).
SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 8 February, 2019 Posted 8 February, 2019 Hatrick tonight (and still over ten minutes to go as I type that!). I'm pleased for him too and do feel we let him go too early. His altruism is also a breath of fresh air in modern football. Good on him!
Stud mark of doom Posted 8 February, 2019 Author Posted 8 February, 2019 He’s probably feeling a little flat now.
Jonnyboy Posted 8 February, 2019 Posted 8 February, 2019 He’s probably feeling a little flat now. Still got man of the match.
sadoldgit Posted 9 February, 2019 Posted 9 February, 2019 In what way was he "clearly" not good enough? He was never tried. Not one Premiership club has signed him so it wasn’t just us that thought he wasn’t up to it. Nothing wrong with being a quality Championship level player, which is what he is.
