Picard Posted 26 December, 2018 Posted 26 December, 2018 I see we've got a new first team manager then. South African bloke. Yes never heard of him but he does seem to have an excellent CV Let's start a new thread!
Cabbage_Face Posted 2 January, 2019 Posted 2 January, 2019 Adrian Birrell? I'm Sure he was Ireland ODI coach when they got to the super 8, 2007 i think.
Dusic Posted 9 January, 2019 Posted 9 January, 2019 Edwards signed up on red ball contract - no brainer. Is batting good enough? Assume will target a batting overseas?
Window Cleaner Posted 23 January, 2019 Posted 23 January, 2019 Vince going well in the Big Bash . 75 last match, 74 not out today.
Window Cleaner Posted 22 February, 2019 Posted 22 February, 2019 So, with a bit over a month to bowl-off have we got any openers sorted out?
lickierambert Posted 26 February, 2019 Posted 26 February, 2019 So, with a bit over a month to bowl-off have we got any openers sorted out? No, and no overseas either. It's positively Saints-like
Weston Saint Posted 27 February, 2019 Posted 27 February, 2019 Expecting an announcement at 4pm regarding a signing. No idea if it is a contract extension or a new signing
Weston Saint Posted 27 February, 2019 Posted 27 February, 2019 Dimuth Karunaratne's overseas player age 30 Opening batsman
saint1977 Posted 27 February, 2019 Posted 27 February, 2019 Dimuth Karunaratne's overseas player age 30 Opening batsman Was acting skipper for SL’s win in SA. Don’t know what he is like against the moving ball but coped with a high quality attack overseas. Good signing on paper
Window Cleaner Posted 4 March, 2019 Posted 4 March, 2019 (edited) Dimuth Karunaratne's overseas player age 30 Opening batsman Looks good. Scores 50 or more one innings in 3 from the stats. I see it's only for the first part of the season though. Edited 4 March, 2019 by Window Cleaner
Window Cleaner Posted 18 March, 2019 Posted 18 March, 2019 Hey, there's cricket on Thursday and Friday of this week. More early next week as well. Hope it doesn't get weathered off like last year.
badgerx16 Posted 19 March, 2019 Posted 19 March, 2019 "Sri Lanka opener Dimuth Karunaratne may not join Hampshire as their overseas player, while selectors consider him as a potential World Cup captain. .... Karunaratne has been asked to stay in Sri Lanka during April and play in their domestic 50-over competition before the World Cup begins in May." https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/47625896

I know that last season Amla eventually turned up but he didn't seem to be all that interested and swanned off early. Karunaratne played in a representaive game today I think. Made 20 not out. I looked up some old season start dates yesterday and it seems to me that the County Cricket season is starting earlier and earlier. Used to be mid-end of April'ish I think. Dusic Posted 20 March, 2019 Posted 20 March, 2019 Thoughts on the best Championship lineup? Will Vince open as the ECB want? Possibly more likely now due to the Sri Lankan not being available. In theory, a very strong lineup aside from one opening spot.

But as we saw on a fair few occasions last season, if you haven't got solid openers everything else is fragilised.

Possibly more likely now due to the Sri Lankan not being available. In theory, a very strong lineup aside from one opening spot. Until a replacement overseas is sorted, I'd say we'll go: Donald, Alsop, Vince, Northeast, Roussow, Dawson, McManus, Berg, Barker, Abbott, Edwards Still a batsman short in my mind
Dusic Posted 21 March, 2019 Posted 21 March, 2019 Vince opened today in the warm up game. I think he will open at the start of the season to try and get into England reckoning as an opener.
badgerx16 Posted 21 March, 2019 Posted 21 March, 2019 Vince opened today in the warm up game. I think he will open at the start of the season to try and get into England reckoning as an opener. Well they seem to have tried everybody else apart from Anderson and Broad.
badgerx16 Posted 30 March, 2019 Posted 30 March, 2019 Hants have now signed SA opener Aiden Markram in place of Karunaratne, for the first couple of months of the season.
saint1977 Posted 1 April, 2019 Posted 1 April, 2019 Hants have now signed SA opener Aiden Markram in place of Karunaratne, for the first couple of months of the season. Hopefully gets us off to a good start. Last season early Hants almost seemed to be 0/2 almost. In other news, did I read that Karunaratne has been arrested for drink-driving?
Window Cleaner Posted 5 April, 2019 Posted 5 April, 2019 Saved by the light. Saved from what "au juste"? Good looking start to me. 303/4, Northeast just 6 away from a century, good knocks from Vince, Rossouw and Markram.
Window Cleaner Posted 6 April, 2019 Posted 6 April, 2019 Ton up for Northeast. Good start, should get at least 4 batting points, perhaps 5.
kwsaint Posted 6 April, 2019 Posted 6 April, 2019 Ton up for Northeast. Good start, should get at least 4 batting points, perhaps 5. 30 runs in 20 overs. not a high rr for 5 bonus points. good opening
Window Cleaner Posted 6 April, 2019 Posted 6 April, 2019 30 runs in 20 overs. not a high rr for 5 bonus points. good opening Well yes but I'm kind of used to Hants collapsing in the mid-order. Still it's a great looking start to the season.
Window Cleaner Posted 6 April, 2019 Posted 6 April, 2019 So then 525/8 declared and Fidel gets one of their openers in his second over. Unfortunately not that old stick in the mud Cooke.
Window Cleaner Posted 6 April, 2019 Posted 6 April, 2019 Looks like we're going to lose more time to bad light, pity, we are in a strong position but we need to be bowling at them for all the overs possible..
saint1977 Posted 7 April, 2019 Posted 7 April, 2019 So then 525/8 declared and Fidel gets one of their openers in his second over. Unfortunately not that old stick in the mud Cooke. Westley out to Kyle, 55/2, but Cook 35 no. Lawrence and Bopara now key as well as Cook, who will look to drop anchor, with Wheater’s injury. Ten-D fast scorer in Roussow mode, Harmer a useful bat but a couple more wickets would leave Essex very exposed.
whelk Posted 7 April, 2019 Posted 7 April, 2019 Nice start. We are currently second in table and Essex are first so win and we should go top
lickierambert Posted 8 April, 2019 Posted 8 April, 2019 Good grief, we appear to have beaten Essex comfortably for the first time in a long time
Snopper Posted 8 April, 2019 Posted 8 April, 2019 Brilliant start to the season. Come on you whites.......
saint1977 Posted 8 April, 2019 Posted 8 April, 2019 Hants dispatching their bogey side by an innings. With Cook as well. All bar Weatherley got runs, and brilliant knocks by Northeast and Rosseuw. Hope injury to Allsopp not serious. Bowlers superb - Edwards and Abbott in particular, some tidy overs from Dawson to add to his half century. Couldn’t have gone better for Birrell. Yorks visiting next, Root off a big unbeaten ton but their bowling looked all over the show at Notts. Let’s enjoy being top of the table for now!
Lets B Avenue Posted 8 April, 2019 Posted 8 April, 2019 Good grief, we appear to have beaten Essex comfortably for the first time in a long time Not that long ago. http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/8796/scorecard/692939/hampshire-vs-essex-lv=-county-championship-division-two-2014
Window Cleaner Posted 9 April, 2019 Posted 9 April, 2019 QUOTE=lickierambert;2725027]Good grief, we appear to have beaten Essex comfortably for the first time in a long time Ah but Wheater was out injured for all but a couple of overs. No bogey man, no horrendous loss.
stevegrant Posted 11 April, 2019 Posted 11 April, 2019 Struggling for wickets today. Sounds like a pretty flat deck this time. New ball due fairly soon, so hopefully we can get something with that, otherwise Root and Ballance could bat for ****ing ages.

Big scores all round hopefully.
Window Cleaner Posted 12 April, 2019 Posted 12 April, 2019 Well we've got Ballance at last, caught behind off Berg. Tykes 371/4. Doesn't look like Fidel has bowled today, not an injury I hope.
Picard Posted 12 April, 2019 Author Posted 12 April, 2019 Do we get a point for 3 wickets after 110 overs?
Window Cleaner Posted 12 April, 2019 Posted 12 April, 2019 Do we get a point for 3 wickets after 110 overs? 1 I think, unless they've changed it this season.
Window Cleaner Posted 12 April, 2019 Posted 12 April, 2019 Well I hope the wicket is as flat and lifeless as our bowlers (still no Fidel) are making it look. Yorks 519/6. Not scoring very quickly but we'll need some really solid batting for 2 days to get a draw.
Window Cleaner Posted 12 April, 2019 Posted 12 April, 2019 (edited) Ah bolloaks. Hants 15/2 both openers gone, probably to dibby, dobby seamers. Then again, Vince really isn't an opener and Weatherly isn't...well anywhere near good enough to be opening in Div 1. Edited 12 April, 2019 by Window Cleaner
Window Cleaner Posted 16 April, 2019 Posted 16 April, 2019 So what happened there then? Did the wicket or conditions atmopheric change radically or was our top order batting just duff?.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 April, 2019 Posted 23 April, 2019 Markram looks to be a decent emergency signing then. Solid with the bat, useful with the ball.
John B Posted 23 April, 2019 Posted 23 April, 2019 Markram looks to be a decent emergency signing then. Solid with the bat, useful with the ball. Seems an excellent signing to be replaced by Rahane probably Not sure about the signings of Fuller and Donald having seem them Canterbury and online at Hedge End
Window Cleaner Posted 23 April, 2019 Posted 23 April, 2019 Seems an excellent signing to be replaced by Rahane probably Not sure about the signings of Fuller and Donald having seem them Canterbury and online at Hedge End Fuller got some useful runs today after we lost a couple of quick wickets. Didn't bowl because the spinners ground them down. Donald probably just needs some time, hasn't played much these last 12 months or so.

Yes you are probably right at least with cricketers they can find form in the 2nd eleven unlike PL footballers who lose form and have no games to play
Window Cleaner Posted 26 April, 2019 Posted 26 April, 2019 Batting at the Aegeas looks a bit tough this morning, 3 down already and scoring mainly in singles. Probably why they put us in after winning the toss.
