docker-p Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 A couple of people have told me now that a lot of the stewards at SMS have been drafted in from Portsmouth FC. Anyone else here this? Is it true? Are we being policed by Skates?
rocknrollman no2 Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 We usually bring in stewards from Skatesville if theres a high attendance. We had about thirty for the Manure game, although im not sure if any were there yesterday. I doubt it though because there wasnt enough fans there.
ladysaint Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 Stewards come from Reading as well or have done in the past.
docker-p Posted 18 January, 2009 Author Posted 18 January, 2009 Does it matter? I always had a certain amount of respect for stewards believing them to be Saints fans first, taking the opportunity to work for the club they support. I didn't realise it was just guns for hire.

docker-p Posted 18 January, 2009 Author Posted 18 January, 2009 and does that matter then? They are glorified dinner ladies In the greater scheme of things, not a lot. But, having some bloke who has been watching Saints through good times and bad for thirty years telling you to sit down or some chav from Portsmyth telling you..........
Deanovski Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 considering a steward punched a fan, or so i heard i do know he was atleast very rough with a fan which in return got him smacked
Pilchards Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 For the Manks, Reading and Forest game we hired out 20 from Portsmouth and 10 from Salisbury. I do know this as I work with the steward that runs the Northam.
Saint_clark Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 considering a steward punched a fan, or so i heard i do know he was atleast very rough with a fan which in return got him smacked There was a pile up at the front of the Northam, a 13-15 year old boy fell over the advertising hoardings, he was thrown back over, someone hit the steward and ran off and then the young boy was dragged off with his arms nearly breaking behind his back. The entire Northam/Kingsland north was shouting abuse at the steward, who must have felt really good about himself. (15 years old at the most FFS).
Deanovski Posted 19 January, 2009 Posted 19 January, 2009 yeah the one being draggoed off punched one of the stewards in the face
sebastian firefly Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 Does it matter? yes a lot its wrong on more bloody levels than even i could rant about
Pilchards Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 yes a lot its wrong on more bloody levels than even i could rant about Jeez, it took you a year to come up with that! Whatever next a Keegan has signed thread from the eighties?
NickG Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 I always had a certain amount of respect for stewards believing them to be Saints fans first, taking the opportunity to work for the club they support. I didn't realise it was just guns for hire. are they armed? I will sit down next time!
saint boggy Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 have i just stepped through a wormhole and gone back in time??????
Joneth Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 I used to work with one of the head stewards and she used to have to go to fratton every so often. I doubt she needs to now, surely 3 stewards would be enough these days?
Torres Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 yes a lot its wrong on more bloody levels than even i could rant about Is this some sort of poem?
Topcat Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 Well at least the portsmuff stewards know that we will pay their wages on time.
Joneth Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 Is this some sort of poem? haiku? Who cares anyway? Makes perfect sense, why would we bother having enough stewards for a 30k crowd when most of the time we only get about 20k? When we do get the occasional big crowd we just borrow a few stewards from other clubs. Does it really affect your enjoyment at a game that much if a pompey fan is telling you to sit down instead of a Saints fan? What difference does it make?
MusicMan Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 We train most of them anyway. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/StMarys/0,,10280,00.html
Miltonaggro Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 Apparently some of the catering staff drafted in on big matchdays are members of Opus Dei and the Bader Meinhoff gang...

I should think to some of those who just want an argument with an authority figure and haven't yet got out of their schoolyard mentality, it's quite an incentive to refuse to do as they're told if they think they're "sticking it to the Pompey Man" rather than just "the Man" generally.

Well pretty soon there won't be any pompey fans anyway, they'll be chelski, citeh.....probably find there's suddenly a few new saints fans on the other side of the hamble. Just be sticking it to the man then.
Huffton Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 Apparently some of the catering staff drafted in on big matchdays are members of Opus Dei and the Bader Meinhoff gang... Having tasted some of the 'food' they serve, I can quite believe it!

golfdelsur Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 Not true all extra stewards are from Bournemouth unless they are at home on the same day.
eurosaint Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 If there are a few Skates involved in stewarding now and again I suspect that they will hardly be diehard fans, as surely they would not want to mix with the enemy ! Unless that pr#ck Westwood turned up with only a yellow jacket over his normal fancy dress then personally I couldn't give a monkey's !!
fletch Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 Give those pompey stewards a break! Their not exactly overworked are they ;-) LMFAO!!!
Micky Posted 20 January, 2010 Posted 20 January, 2010 yes a lot its wrong on more bloody levels than even i could rant about Ahhh so good to see that you have trawled the Board and revived a real classic of a thread - I like your taste, I really do...! Please refrain from the rant though - if it's taken you this long to work it up, it could prove fatal. Relax and breath would be my advice..!
