Huddersfield 1 Saints 3

There was a song going round today to the tune of the ‘ohhhh Balotelli, he’s a striker, he’s good at darts, an allergy to grass but when he plays he ****in class’ one from his City days. Ended with something about Pompey and I think I heard Germany mentioned. But I couldn’t for the life of me work out what it was. Sounded really good though.

"Oh Pierre Hojbjerg the one and only he's from Munich. He said his days were numbered if he stayed and Germany, and now he's on the South Coast and he ****ing hates Pompey."

3 weeks ago we looked dead and buried. Now we look like we can give anyone a game.

Ralph's given us our mojo back and at breakneck speed too.

I had high expectations from the guy and he's exceeded them. Not just the results but the spirit and optimism have flooded back way faster than I think anyone dared.

He'll be on his way to the top 6 probably in 18 months. Hopefully this time the owner has learnt a valuable lesson and we get the next up and coming guy rather than the last 3 duds.

We were good but Huddersfield were utter dogsh1te. Particularly when they pushed their defence so high up the field. That's genuinely the worst defence I've seen us up against since Sunderland.

True, but compare the result to those achieved against the other utter dogsh1te teams we have played this season and last, it’s a hug leap forward.

Secondedddddddd.

You also have to sprinkle in that, with us now playing in a remarkably more cohesive progressive style as a team, how much does our superior performance make Huddersfield performance look worse than it might have looked a month ago.

Last Sunday sitting in the stand at SMS v Arsenal with my full view of the pitch, 10 minutes in I did think “blimey can we keep this up for another 80 minutes”. Even before Austin had wrapped the game up Arsenal didn’t look like a team that was on a 22 game unbeaten run, after a week and a bit of the players buying into the Ralph philosophy the overall Saints performance made Arsenal look nothing special.

Back to yesterday - I will readily admit that for quite a while I have thought Redmond, more often than not, to be a waste of space. Yesterday he looked like the player we hoped he would become when he first turned up, it’s like he has been let off the leash, had the lead taken out of his boots and Steak is for diner if he is good. The boy was electric yesterday (crikey did I just type that) wonder if Pep will be having another chat with him next Sunday afternoon.

I was thinking that we already need to think about his apprentice. Sad isn't it. The Poch hole at Spurs at the end of the season when he goes to Utd. Hands off, Levy. Not this time. Have Zidane instead

He did play well, very well, but i don't think he is on England's level, no one at Saints is. you really think Redmond is better than Lingard, Rashford, Sterling, Sancho and co, sorry but no way. i would have any of them at saints in a heart beat.

Trying not to be pedantic but if you have another read of what I said, it was “if he continues this form”. To answer your question, yes if Redmond week in week out matches his performances of recent games he is absolutely at that level. As I tried to draw out in my post, the difference now is actual delivery of goals and assists.

Really good away peformance, 3-0 would've been a fairer scoreline. Had a load of chances on the counter.

Think we'll be a decent mid table side once Bertrand is back.

They had a few that, had they had a competent striker, would have been in the back of our net.

And two of our three goals were absolute gifts. We played well in spells but there’s still plenty to work on. Wham will be a much more instructive test of where we are.

I hope we can keep a hold of Ralph and he can get us back on track to where we were with Poch and Koeman (the first year)

Read a comment on the bbc website that Austin’s behaviour whilst celebrating the third goal was appalling....what did he do that was so bad?

All I saw was the whole bench jump up in celebration on Obi's goal. Austin, Ings, and a few others were sort of in front. Not sure what the issue was. I thought it was great seeing all the players into the match and celebrating.

Yesterday was a very big 'high' for all of us who turned up at the John Smiths Stadium. I gave up counting after 28 times that Huddersfield back passed to their keeper. They are just not very good. Let's not get carried away with the euphoria of winning two on the bounce as this league can turn and bite you in the bum. The change in the way we play under Ralph is so promising. The only downside for me was when some of our 'fans' chanted "You cheating Northern bastards". Every single person we met in Huddersfield were great. No animosity and most welcoming. Call the 'players' cheats as much as you want but not the people who live and support their team. I felt a little ashamed at the ignorance of a minority.

I don't think we can stand by and ignore one of our players goading disabled people. If these fans were Jewish or black there would be hell to pay but being disabled isn't seen as being as bad as Jewish or black so nothing will happen. Austin needs to be sacked for gross misconduct IMO.

Just back from Yorkshire. Still got the warm glow of the away win. Thought we dominated from start to finish, barring a five minute spell after their lucky goal. Prior to that we had complete control of the game. The only time we looked under any threat was set pieces. Huddersfield have some big lads and they won the first and often second header which on anther day might have seen them score a goal or two. Our failure to dominate in the air has not been resolved by Vestegaard. Bednerek also fails to inspire me. He doesn't win headers and he is pretty slow. Check the MOTD hihhlights and just how slow he was on the turn for Huddersfield only chance (just before half time). He doesn't get nearly close enough but luckily the shot flew high.

Playing three at the back is not just a good idea its a necessity IMO. I thought Yoshida had a terrific game covering the back. Despite our two wins we have not sorted the defence out. By pressing teams we have hidden the weakness better. Perhaps that is what all decent sides do - hide an cover the back four. I don't want to be too negative, but focusing on issues when you win is as important as when you lose. With that let me say that neither full back is good enough. Targett is too slow...far too slow. His lack of pace didn't cost us this time, but against better opponents it we need Bertrand back, One thing I will say is he won a few headers from their long balls. On the other side Valery is not quite ready. The more games he gets the better, but he struggled again. We looked more solid when Stephens replaced him.

Enough negative, in front of them it was brilliant. Hoj and Romeu ran the game. Hoj was pretty much faultless in my eyes. In front of them Armstrong had his best game for Saints I think. He was a great out ball and his off the ball running relived the pressure and gave an option time after time. Redmond had another very good game. He continues to offer us our best attacking outlet and he linked very well with Ings. Talking of Ings, his return tp the side is perhaps as important as getting a new manager. The efforts is infectious, the quality on the ball brilliant too. He is a class act.

A big congratulations to Obafemi on his goal. He took it well. He actually fluffed his lines a couple of times prior to that and looked far from a composed finisher and a couple of through balls we very average when we looked well placed, but he looks confident and will only get better.

Ive been quite negative, I know, but this was a great team display against a terrible team (with injuries to key midfielders) that will go down. We are so much better when we press teams. I simply do not understand why we ever stopped doing it.

I didn't see anything but why would anyone make up things about Austin goading disabled people? It's clearly the sorry of thing he would do as well.

Well, given that it's Christmas Eve tomorrow, I suspect it is the school holidays. What a strange comment.

So far from the truth it’s unreal he was taking stick all game from some lads behind the dugout assume for the wack he gave there keeper at ours last season he just responded when we scored the third as all the bench did by jumping up punching the air etc and giving it back to the lads behind nothing to be made here

I assume that as a mentally challenged person yourself, if you've been to the football and shouted abuse at a player you'd expect them to retaliate in exactly the same way to you than they would to someone with a proper mental capacity.
