Cabbage_Face Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 You can see glimmers of his tactics. As he says, it will take time and im sure by the summer (when we are also safe) we will be playing completely different football. One moment was Armstrong sprinting length of pitch to close down a loose ball and winning a throw in for Saints, not seen that for years.
Baird of the land Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 His one mistake aside i think Bednarek is doing ok. Valery a least is trying to defend, which is an improvement on cedric recently. Not sure this set up does much more armstrong. We need to get him more central. Positive is that at ht it is 0-0.
Cabbage_Face Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 I'm at a loss to know what Stephens did to deserve to be dropped. He was our best defender for the last two games. This back four, against a better side than Cardiff, would have let in 3 or 4 by now. Vestergaard has been atrocious, Targett has made a handful of howlers and gifted them chances, and Valery will be very lucky not to get a second yellow the way he's going. Going forward, we don't seem to have any plan or shape when attacking. Not getting in behind at all, and our best chance fell to Lemina who really had to do better with the time and space he had. Ralph really has got his work cut out to get this lot playing like a team. It's simple. Cardiff are an threat in the air. Long Throw ins etc. Stephens isnt good in air.
Chez Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Austin looks dangerous today, getting on the ball often. Unfortunately our defence looks dangerous too. I see many 4-3 matches in our future I know Austin is easy to criticise right now, but I honestly don't see this danger you refer to.
Mr X Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Must win - Ha Ha - with more than 20 games to go in the season ... ?? we need some points on the board desperately though for confidence...... how long can we keep say ing better luck next time for?

Jack has been our best defender recently so can only think he has been given a rest after 3 games in week. No other reason for him to be dropped.
obelisk Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Average at best. Defensively as poor as any other combination tried so far. Once again I don't think we look fit enough. Cardiff will probably target Valery for a 2nd yellow. I'd be thinking of replacing him. His time will come.
stknowle Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Targett is giving me Danny Fox vibes here He's really quite unimpressive isn't he? Generally we look unlikely to score but likely to concede. Not a great combination but a familiar one.
qwertyell Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Got away with that - it's a 0-0 drubbing at the moment. Each of our back four have made at least one terrible mistake that should've led to a goal. It feels like it's only a matter of time before Cardiff - who are not special in any way - capitalise. Targett's the Ward-Prowse of defenders: nice technique, but slower than coastal erosion. Valery won't last the game, one way or another. His winger's got him on toast. Why do we have so many improbably slow players on the books? In possession, our movement has been interesting and a little bit different, but who is creating from this line up? We've not looked like opening them up in the slightest. Looks a filthy day, weather wise, so that's probably contributing to the poor quality of the game, but we'd snap your hand off for a point from here. Only one winner. Which is true of any game, I suppose, but you know what I mean... Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
Chez Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Must win - Ha Ha - with more than 20 games to go in the season ... ?? it is must win game IMO. We are struggling to beat anyone...everyone. If we can beat Fulham, Cardiff and Huddersfield we are ****ed come May.

Manuel Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Stephens coming on at RB apparently Probably a good decision considering the yellow.
Chez Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 They have more form and confidence than us, would expect them to have the better of it early on. Main thing was getting in level. But want to see a lot more second half. Would get rid of a CM for Elyounoussi and go for them. Romeu maybe and go 433. Gabbi on for Austin at some point. Think first goal wins, if we get it and gain confidence we'll push on this time. If they get it, familiar sinking feeling. Romeu has been our best player?
Sheaf Saint Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 It's simple. Cardiff are an threat in the air. Long Throw ins etc. Stephens isnt good in air. Fair enough. But I still think we would be looking much better overall with him in there in place of JV.
OttawaSaint Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Cardiff on pitch. Saints yet to emerge. Extra rollicking. Stephens on Valery off.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Stephens coming on at RB apparently Good move as valery was odds on for a red
skintsaint Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Cardiff not scored first at home yet this season, ah bugger.
aintforever Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Not sure you can call this a must win, more a must not lose. A draw is not great but I would take it now, it’s a shame Ralph wasn’t brought in a few weeks ago during the break.
The Cat Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 I'd rather we played Brad Targett than Matt Targett
OttawaSaint Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Two opportunities forTargett to make a cross, poor both times.
Cabbage_Face Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Targett is the worst LB weve had since Benali. But like Benali gets away with it cos "Loyal, one of our own"
Saint_clark Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Just. Don't. Concede.Yep. Need to make progress and a clean sheet is the first step. Sent from my SM-J600FN using Tapatalk

Chez Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Chaz with some ****e "no look" passes today. woeful link up play. He is poor outside the six yard box.
Cabbage_Face Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 "Sell Bertrand, he is lazy, play Targett"
Toadhall Saint Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 "Sell Bertrand, he is lazy, play Targett" [emoji23]
Cabbage_Face Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 mcqueen should be waiting for a call Needs a new leg. #mess
Chez Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 "Sell Bertrand, he is lazy, play Targett" erosion of quality...
Toadhall Saint Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 erosion of quality... Which has to stop
Cabbage_Face Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 erosion of quality... Bertrand still one of the best LB's in the league. Just miss-managed like 90 percent of our players.
Saint_clark Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 what a bloody waste of a corner!Would it have been better if it was crossed in and then cleared anyway? We used to try all sorts of set piece routines and they worked quite well. Sent from my SM-J600FN using Tapatalk
Chez Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Bednerek looked slow as Murphy strolled past him.
St Marco Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 We look so un-fit. It really must have been a holiday camp under Hughes.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Bertrand still one of the best LB's in the league. Just miss-managed like 90 percent of our players. Agree
Cabbage_Face Posted 8 December, 2018 Posted 8 December, 2018 Agree Our only real weakness stopping us get a mid table finish is CB. In my view.
