spyinthesky Posted 7 December, 2018 Share Posted 7 December, 2018 There were a group of Spurs fans in the corporates at Wembley who were moaning about Saints fans singing 'Oh When the Saints' as this now, according to them, is a well known Spurs song. Seems that Spurs arent the only 'fans' who have hijacked the song. Think it is now in the Stoke repertoire and possibly Liverpool (understandably), amongst others. Fame at last but perhaps time to improve the range of chants/songs, which has always been a bit of a problem. 33,000 at Wembley provides a very dire atmosphere. jawillwill Posted 7 December, 2018 Share Posted 7 December, 2018 I presume it was tongue in cheek. And pretty much every club now sings a version of it. It doesn't really matter. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence realises that the original song mentions Saints. Not Spurs/reds/blues etc. Wembley is always a dire atmosgere, especially when Spurs are playing. OldNick Posted 7 December, 2018 Share Posted 7 December, 2018 Do you really think that Spurs fans believe it was their song. Perhaps they mean the slow version they sing, rather than our traditional faster paced one. Ever since I have been watching Saints opposition teams have used OWTS . Much like I recall on many occasions our fans singing youll never walk alone. Ive never heard other fans singing Chelseas 'Blue is the colour' or Coventrys one that Jimmy Hill invented
Dark Munster Posted 7 December, 2018 Share Posted 7 December, 2018 Ok, let them come up with "Oh when the Spurs go marching in" earlier than this.

Isla Wight Posted 7 December, 2018 Share Posted 7 December, 2018 Perhaps the combined efforts of the Saints forum members can come up with something to improve the range of songs sung at SMS. Although OWTS is rightly synominous with our club it is about all our fans can come up with and it's pretty boring tbh
Matthew Le God Posted 7 December, 2018 Share Posted 7 December, 2018 (edited) Do you really think that Spurs fans believe it was their song. I know Spurs fans who genuinely believe it is 'their song' and we stole it from them. Despite the lyrics being written with 'Saints' in them. It would be daft if we started singing 'I'm forever blowing bubbles' or 'Delilah' at St Mary's, so it is odd other clubs use our tradition song. adrian lord Posted 7 December, 2018 Share Posted 7 December, 2018 The 'new' Wembley is a soulless place. A bigger Emirates in fact. FA should certainly sell it if they can find a buyer.

ChiefScummer Posted 10 December, 2018 Share Posted 10 December, 2018 I used to work with a spurs fan and he honestly thought it was their song. His reasoning... They changed one word. Said he got annoyed when he heard us sing it as we sing it better. We'll obviously... It's our f#cking song!

They we're the 1st club to use it. It actually is THEIR song, but hijacked by Utd. And it seem Spurs let them have it.....

Tottenham have used it since the early 1960s but I don't see how they could have stopped anybody else from using it.
