Huffton Posted 18 January, 2009 Share Posted 18 January, 2009 Now that the Grapes has gone. Need a pub that sells a decent pint tha allows kids in on matchdays. Any recommendations?
Master Bates Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 The Red Lion in Bedford Place has a garden, pricey beer though. The Bedfords in Bedford Place has a front patio type thing, £2.10 a pint.
Deppo Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 The Plume seemed to allow a load of kids in the other day.
lee_saint Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 Yacht Tavern just across the Itchen bridge is decent enough, not packed on matchdays.

Huffton Posted 19 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 19 January, 2009 I was under the impression that The Red Lion didn't do any decent ale, though? It doesn't. Was is there this week, only one ale (Ringwood) and the worst pint of Guiness I've ever had the misfortune to taste. :vom:

Junction 9 Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 (edited) Yacht Tavern just across the Itchen bridge is decent enough, not packed on matchdays. I've never heard of this place, what side of the bridge? Edit - just remembered. Edited 19 January, 2009 by Junction

Was is there this week, only one ale (Ringwood) and the worst pint of Guiness I've ever had the misfortune to taste. :vom: We were drinking in Pensioners, but it has gone downhill since landlord left. Now go to The Alexandra which has 4 real ales including Ringwood, London Pride, Summer Lightning and Timothy Taylor currently. I am pretty sure I have seen kids in there, but wouldn't want to promise.
Master Bates Posted 20 January, 2009 Share Posted 20 January, 2009 I was under the impression that The Red Lion didn't do any decent ale, though? I haven't been in there in ages, too pricey for me. We were drinking in Pensioners, but it has gone downhill since landlord left. Now go to The Alexandra which has 4 real ales including Ringwood, London Pride, Summer Lightning and Timothy Taylor currently. $$$ Posted 20 January, 2009 Share Posted 20 January, 2009 Alex is a great pub but no kids are allowed inside or in the back garden. Means you would have to fight it out with the smokers out the front and there would be issues with toilets...

saint1977 Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 If you want good ale, Guide Dog is an option but not great for kids. New Inn might be good still - haven't been in there for a while. The Alex is a good shout. I'm told the new JDW nr. Ocean Village (or what's left of it after more SCC incompetence) is decent but can't vouch for that personally. Jillyanne Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Is the Grapes still shut by the way? Or did they reach some kind of compromise? Well as all the memorabilia that was in the pub went up for auction this week, I would assume it is shut.

Massimo Osti Posted 9 March, 2009 Share Posted 9 March, 2009 any idea where the fook the king alfred is?! Must be the nearest boozer to St Marys, Bar to turn style? Chaple would come a close second, but you could face a toe'ing if your, gobby, welsh, fresh from a tour of duty, an expectant father, have an extended welsh family, have a pink jumper????? Or all of the above.......
Scudamore Posted 9 March, 2009 Share Posted 9 March, 2009 I'm an Alexandra man too. Good beer. Sport on the box. Good beer garden. That's all you really need i'd say... They need a lock on the toilet though...what is it with pubs and no locks on the toilet doors?

I was one of the lot down from London, you may have known Eric Shadick, James Whitworth, Mike Rosam and many other London Saints members. I was the large, objectionable arsehole who drank far too quickly and needed a reminder that the match started in ten minutes...
