norwaysaint Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 We've done it before, but for fun. Imagine you had a time machine to bring back four players in their SAINTS' prime (Therefore Shearer, Bale, Walcott etc at the level they reached while they played for us). The manager can be one of your picks. What would be your team for next week?

norwaysaint Posted 30 October, 2018 Author Posted 30 October, 2018 No Bale? Bale was just a promising young left back when he was at saints. I don't think he would have added that much now, better to stick with Bertrand who is one of the few quality players we have. Add the quality elsewhere. It took him a couple of seasons to really break through at Spurs.
leeham_69 Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 I reckon a front three of MLT, Lambo and Mane with a peak schneiderlin in CM would be pretty damn good to watch.
OttawaSaint Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Forster Cedric Jakobsson Hoedt Todd Davis Romeu McCann Groves Long Austin
ChiefScummer Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Macca Cedric Stephens Vvd Bertie Romeu Lemina Redders Le tiss Mane Lambo 4 changes. Was a toss up between vvd and Toby. At least we will have 100% penalty record. Manager koeman.
ashnats Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 We’d only need one, obviously, as demonstrated at the time, MLT. To do more than just save us, bale and mane, and. Michael svensson.
Pamplemousse Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Forster Cedric Jakobsson Hoedt Todd Davis Romeu McCann Groves Long Austin Managed by a certain H. Redknapp?
OttawaSaint Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Managed by a certain H. Redknapp? Or Dean Wilkins
K,Billy's supersound Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Niemi. Dean Richards. Le tiss and Lambert.
Saint Albert Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Keegan, M. Svensson, Le Tissier, Lambert.
Useful Idiot Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 ------------------------McCarthy----------------------- Cedric---ALDERWIERELD-------Yoshida-----Bertrand -----------------------WANYAMA----------------------- -----------Hojbjerg-------------------Lemina---------- -----------------------LE TISSIER---------------------- -------------MANE-------------------Ings-------------- I'd go for that. 4-4-2 Diamond with forwards dropping wide to defend and MLT with a free role.
doddisalegend Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 MLT behind the strikers. Killer to shore up the back. Peak Morgan in midfield. 2002-2003 season Beattie to partner Ings up front. 4-4-2 diamond BT Ings MLT Hoj Lemina Morgan Betrand Killer Yoshida Cedric McCarthy Manager WGS for ****s and giggles
sandwichsaint Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Add in Mark Wright Alan Ball Keegan Channon winners!
conaero Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Four players you say. Matty, thats a given put also I loved Marian so that is probably 2. What we need is leaders and work rate in the midfield and the only person Ive seen in a Saints shirt is Chris Marsden so I am going to give him the nod but spiderman is a close second. The final one has to be defence or goal and this is a tough one. Do you go for a proven keeper or a central defensive marshal. As we already have AM in goal, I feel that I would put Killer in there, fit, obviously. That would give us flare up front, work rate in the midfield and guile in the defence.
saintoaks Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 To help us out of the mire we are in at the present time i would bring Clyne, Lallana, Wanyama and possibly Schneiderlin (will never happen though)..
nta786 Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Osvaldo to sort out our goalscoring woes. Taider to add some flair to our midfield Cuco Martina for his long shots Guly for some much needed team spirit.
badgerx16 Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Put VVD alongside Yoshida at centre-back, bring back Morgan in midfield, then put MLT behind the strikers and play Ron Davies or Pelle alongside Ings.
ericb Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Mark Wright, VVD, Le Tiss and Lambert would see us pretty good i reckon
aintforever Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 ——————-McCarthy————————— Cedric---Yoshida------Hoedt---Bertrand -------------Lemina-Hobjerg--------------- Walcott—------LeTissier------------Bale ----------—----Shearer---------------------
saint1977 Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Dennis, Case, MLT, Danny Wallace. We already have a decent LB but along with Casey, you just suspect Psycho is going to have the slackers and overweight loafers in the squad a wallop if they aren’t putting 100% in. Wish we had enforcers like that now, keep the boys on their toes and honest. MLT - pretty obvious, and Danny in his hey day to provide some needed pace instead of the slow crap.
Simon3737 Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 IMHO: -----------------------------McCarthy----------------------------- Cedric------------Stephens--------SVENSSON---------Bertrand -----------------Lemina------------------Hojbjerg---------------- -----------MANE-----------LE TISSIER------------Ings----------- ------------------------------LAMBERT-----------------------------
Baird of the land Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Le tissier obviously Van dijk, best center back I can remember us having. Even better than killer imo. Lambert, quality to lead the line Channon
Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 McCarthy Cedric Stephens Toby. Bertie Hojberg. Lemina Mane. Le Tiss. Ings Lambert
Bad Wolf Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 McCarthey Clyne VVD Stephens Bertrand Hojbjerg Lemina MLT Ings Lambert Redmond.
SFKA South Woodford Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 My four would be: Mane, Toby, Virgil & Rickie, although as has already been mentioned we are lacking that niggly bstard in the midfield that so upsets the opposition, so I might swap Virgil for big Vic or Marsdinho to give a bit of bite.
benjii Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Pick one of our good centre backs: I'd go for prime Svennson. Didn't leave under a cloud, great organiser and good for a few goals a season. Then pick some entertainers up front. If we're talking players in their prime then you have to pick Matt Le Tiss. You also have to pick a centre forward to you probably go Keegan or Beattie. Both of those in their prime were far superior to Lambert. Then you pick Bale, Wallace, Pahars etc. as you choose. I wasn't old enough to see Keegan play for us, so my team would be: McCarthy Cedric Svennson Yoshida Bertrand Lemina Hojbjerg Bale LeTiss Redmond (lolz) Beattie
benjii Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Osvaldo to sort out our goalscoring woes. Taider to add some flair to our midfield Cuco Martina for his long shots Guly for some much needed team spirit. Taider
norwaysaint Posted 30 October, 2018 Author Posted 30 October, 2018 Surprised people chose Bale. Was he really THAT good for us? He was a promising youngster playing in the championship and only played left back for us, one of the few areas we don't really need to replace.
SFC Forever Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 ...............McCarthy Cedric, Stephens, Yoshida, Bertrand, ....Schneiderlin, Hojbjerg, Lemina, ...................MLT ..........R Davies, Channon
Dark Munster Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Surprised not many mentions of Channon, one of our greatest ever. Him, MLT, Lambert and Mark Wright. I think we'd comfortably avoid the drop with them.
Saint WGC Posted 30 October, 2018 Posted 30 October, 2018 Would have to pick Matt Le Tiss, goes without saying and he alongside Rodney Wallace were very exciting to watch. Ahh remember the days when we were entertaining to watch a few years ago. Always liked Claus and Richard Hall too but Michael Svensson would just get the nod as centre half. Creative midfield player would be Steve Williams. McCarthy Cedric. Stephens. Svensson. Bertrand Hojberg. Williams Lemina Le Tiss. Ings Rod Wallace
benjii Posted 31 October, 2018 Posted 31 October, 2018 Surprised people chose Bale. Was he really THAT good for us? He was a promising youngster playing in the championship and only played left back for us, one of the few areas we don't really need to replace. Yes, he was. Despite playing at left back he was often the man of the match and the most dangerous player on the pitch. People who know their football could see he would be an elite player, same as when Mane joined. I don't think you have to pick him as a left back in this scenario, though.
doddisalegend Posted 31 October, 2018 Posted 31 October, 2018 Surprised not many mentions of Channon, one of our greatest ever. Him, MLT, Lambert and Mark Wright. I think we'd comfortably avoid the drop with them. TBF last time Channon pulled on a saints shirt was what? 1982? Probably a bit before the time (me included) of a lot of posters on here.
Cabrone Posted 31 October, 2018 Posted 31 October, 2018 .....................McCarthy Cedric...Alderweireld.....Yoshi....Bertrand Hojberg.......Schneiderlin............Lemina MLT..................Ricky.....................Ings
Saint86 Posted 31 October, 2018 Posted 31 October, 2018 1.) Our defence is poor, so clearly one of Toby or VVD for me. I think I would actually pick Toby as he martialed the defence superbly and has more about his all round game than athleticism. He also never lost interest with saints. 2.) Our midfield and attack are not generating enough goals. Queue the greatest player to ever feature in the red and white - Le Tissier 3.) Mane - Utterly unplayable on his day, and for me one of the best wingers in world football. 4.) No. 4 is a tough one with so many to chose from. But the best of the rest is between Channon, Lambert, and Keegan. - Given our current strikeforce issues, I think I would pick Channon.
Saint86 Posted 31 October, 2018 Posted 31 October, 2018 Very clearly states that you are picking them at their peak playing for saints. VvD Bale Le Tiss shearer
John Boy Saint Posted 31 October, 2018 Posted 31 October, 2018 The late Bobby Robson once said that if he could make his perfect player he would mould together, the strength of Shearer, the pace of Rod Wallace, and the skill of Le Tissier so them 3 and Jimmy Case to kick em all up the backside. Can I have Phil Boyer on the subs bench please?
Roo1976 Posted 31 October, 2018 Posted 31 October, 2018 Mark Wright.....Alan Ball....Mick Channon,and Sadio Mane.
