whelk Posted 11 October, 2018 Share Posted 11 October, 2018 PWC reporting this now. I am getting too old but gender first now this. They want to shine a spotlight on it.. How about promotion on merit? What about IQ bias. - sure higher the IQ the more you get paid. So unfair. Height and beauty also lead to more successful careers as well. The usual rent-a-gobs, like that George the Poet who was on QT last week, will be out in force in the coming weeks telling us how institutionally racist the U.K. is Edited 11 October, 2018 by Batman
Pamplemousse Posted 11 October, 2018 Share Posted 11 October, 2018 It's pointless anyway. PwC have this ethnicity pay gap because more white people are in higher paid jobs. The only issue is where two people are getting paid differently for doing the exact same job.

Incoherent, rambling and unable to debate sensibly. Obviously he's not alone in that but he was a complete waste of a seat.

hypochondriac Posted 11 October, 2018 Share Posted 11 October, 2018 You mustn't discriminate against poets. In all seriousness though, presumably the BBC wants to give different perspectives but why would you invite complete thickies on like George the poet, David lammy or June Sarpong? There's a ton of intelligent and articulate black people from all different political persuasions. If you have to choose guests using a racial quota- preferably you wouldn't but then this is the BBC- then for goodness sake choose some better ones. Pretty sure that was the whole point, people with equal qualifications were on a higher wage when a white male.
Millbrook Saint Posted 11 October, 2018 Share Posted 11 October, 2018 Can just see it now, these successful companies when recruiting and discussing pay saying to each other 'well he's black so we don't have to pay him as much' then his colleague agreeing 'yeah 2 blacks for the price of one white' What a load of bollards this country is becoming
hypochondriac Posted 11 October, 2018 Share Posted 11 October, 2018 If you can pay black people less then why would you not just hire a team of black people and save a load of money?
whelk Posted 11 October, 2018 Author Share Posted 11 October, 2018 Pretty sure that was the whole point, people with equal qualifications were on a higher wage when a white male. The PwC analysis shows the pay gap is entirely driven by having more ethnic minorities in junior positions and non-BAME in senior positions 13% salaries and 35% on bonuses. Noble these upstanding global accountants want to do so much good. The more they fleece the public purse and advise companies to remain off shore the more they can pay their Asian secretaries. Millbrook Saint Posted 11 October, 2018 Share Posted 11 October, 2018 So why aren't BAME with equal qualifications getting the promotions and bonuses? Do you not know the rules, anyone who uses the term BAME loses any argument they're involved in by default for being a helmut.
Jonnyboy Posted 11 October, 2018 Share Posted 11 October, 2018 That would surprise me tbf. I expect the likes of June Sarpong would have to pay to be on it. Bargain. I'm assuming you don't want the BBC wasting the license fee payer's money on overpriced pundits. Plus you missed by pun around the theme of the thread. Maybe they preferred a good work life balance? Maybe they didn't work as hard? Maybe they just weren't particularly good at their job? Or you know maybe it's just racism. benjii Posted 11 October, 2018 Share Posted 11 October, 2018 Or maybe they are getting promotions and bonuses but, unsurprisingly and due to historical actuality, the majority of executives in organisations are still white blokes. Unless someone can show that BAME people are paid less than non BAME people for doing the same job it's all a little pointless (same as the gender reports). whelk Posted 11 October, 2018 Author Share Posted 11 October, 2018 So why aren't BAME with equal qualifications getting the promotions and bonuses? Who knows? Studies have shown that generally people from Asian culture don’t do so well in interviews predominantly applying criteria of western self-promotion type skills. So much of interview process used by organisation favours extroverts,

hypochondriac Posted 12 October, 2018 Share Posted 12 October, 2018 Why not they have male nursery school administrators Indeed they do and fantastic workers they are too. The fact their numbers are low isn't due to some matriarchal conspiracy though, men and women on average just make different choices partly due to culture but mostly due to differences in the sexes.
