VectisSaint Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 Withdrawn from England squad. Thank goodness we have Gunn available.
Fatboy40 Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 I'm incredibly calm about this and if it comes to it more than happy for Gunn to get a run as our no.1 keeper, he's looked top drawer in both the cup games.

Pamplemousse Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 Gunn does look like a very good purchase, it's good that we do have two excellent options in that area. Hopefully we go for more young English players in the future, even if they do cost a little bit more.
Micky Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 Probably the one area on the pitch that we really don't need to fret about too much.
Fatboy40 Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 Gunn is probably better tbh I think there's a good chance he is, and I would have liked him to have been the starting keeper for Chelsea to see how he did after the cup game (as we all knew we'd never beat them).
Saint Garrett Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 Would be too harsh on McCarthy dropping him - he's been brilliant since he's come in, and until he makes any mistakes, he shouldn't be dropped. Gunn is long term and will hopefully stick with us for a few seasons.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 Gunn is probably better tbh Based on what?
Pamplemousse Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 Gunn's only recently arrived, it would be incredibly harsh and unfair to drop McCarthy, who has done nothing wrong this season at all. If we go on a decent cup run, I hope Gunn is still the goalkeeper in those latter, important matches.
Heisenberg Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 Might be worth waiting and seeing what Gunn is like under the Premier league lights. We had some celebrating our summer transfers after a couple of friendlies. Laws of averages says we are due a decent transfer but I'll wait and see before giving him thumbs up or down.

Did very well at Norwich in the Championship. Maybe we bought him with the future in mind.

Law of averages is bad statistics or wishful thinking rather than any mathematical principle. In terms you can understand... it’s bollôcks. Stop using it.
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 (edited) Imagine if we didn't have Gunn and were faced with bringing Forster back in Edited 11 October, 2018 by Ex Lion Tamer Spelling
Saint Garrett Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 Imagine if we didn't have Gunn and were faced with bringing Forster back in TBF, I wouldn't be that worried for a few games.
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 11 October, 2018 Posted 11 October, 2018 I don't get all the hatred for Forster. He did a good job for us and his dip in form can also be attributed to some major changes in the back 4. I think it's very harsh that he's where he is now.

Changes in the defence which meant he was more exposed and found out. He did a good job for us, Jesus, you couldn't make it up
JRM Posted 12 October, 2018 Posted 12 October, 2018 Gunn is a future England no. 1 , i expect him to become our first choice once he gets a run in the side. Excellent signing just a shame we didn't get Maddison as well. Doesn't sound like McCarthy injury is that bad, real shame for the lad to drop out as he might have got his first cap. Hopefully he'll get another chance in November.

ChiefScummer Posted 12 October, 2018 Posted 12 October, 2018 And all the helmets were moaning before because they thought gunn was a waste of money. Probably our best signing from the summer. Fantastic keeper.

ChiefScummer Posted 12 October, 2018 Posted 12 October, 2018 Who said he was a waste of money buddy? #mythbuster Can't remember mate. But there were a few here moaning that we wasted that money and should have spent it on an outfield player instead. Personally I think he was our biggest bargain. Bags of potential that lad.

Oh my days!!! and there's no hatred for Forster, he's just a terrible terrible keeper. Should have stuck to being a rugby player
Cabbage_Face Posted 13 October, 2018 Posted 13 October, 2018 Time for Forster to step up and not save anything.

Should have stuck to being a rugby player A bit over the top mate. It's tough on all our keepers at the present with so many changes to defenders and tactics in front of them. But I agree that we need a keeper that is confident and in good form, especially now that we are in dogfight with goals against going to be crucial.
