Soton to Reading train

Hi Saints Fans!

 

Does anyone travel from the jewel of the south to Reading for work? How good are the trains?

 

I used to commute to London and got sick to death of it but I've got a very nice offer of work in Reading now. Obviously it's a much quicker train journey and my perception is it's probably less prone to **** ups than the London mainline (#mess).

 

Am I right?

Trains from Basingstoke to Reading are pretty much every 25-30mins , some might even start in Southampton. But it’s a regular busy service, you just have to watch for odd ones that stop at Reading West then go West, Pretty much every train from Southampton to London stops at Basingstoke.

Yes, there are plenty of trains direct from Soton. I was more interested in whether they actually tend to run on time and have the right number of coaches etc!

 

As it's a cross country service heading all the way up t'north then I'm guessing it's probably more reliable than the ****e I used to get into Waterloo.

I often get that train from Reading to go up North. It’s generally on time going both ways.

The Cross Country service is usually on time going up, getting back in the evening tends to have more delays (built up on the journey).

Try to get the CC one rather than the change at Basingstoke, as the second train is the stopping service, as noted above, and takes an age to arrive in Reading.
