LGTL Posted 6 October, 2018 Posted 6 October, 2018 Watching Giroud v Hoedt in the air is going to be comical.
Saint Benali Posted 6 October, 2018 Posted 6 October, 2018 Can't see a mauling here. Hughes will set up in his ultra defensive style. Park the bus. Then around the 70th min he will bring a midget on (JWP, Davis) and Giroud will get a free header. 0-1
Pamplemousse Posted 6 October, 2018 Author Posted 6 October, 2018 Watching Giroud v Hoedt in the air is going to be comical. Hopefully he won't be anywhere near the team

kyle04 Posted 6 October, 2018 Posted 6 October, 2018 We could be in the bottom 3 after tomorrow. Toon 2-0 up

badgerx16 Posted 6 October, 2018 Posted 6 October, 2018 Watching Giroud v Hoedt in the air is going to be comical. Hopefully he won't be anywhere near the team I suspect Chelsea will have him on their bench.

For all Reed & Wilson's failings I'd be more concerned if two of the characters sat with Gao in the photograph are the new Director of Football, and Head of Recruitment. I'm hoping it's a Financial Adviser who is looking to outspend Fosun's investment and has the back up to do it.
saint1977 Posted 6 October, 2018 Posted 6 October, 2018 Watching Giroud v Hoedt in the air is going to be comical. Probably BS but reported on the UI that Hoedt and Hughes had a bust up after the Wolves game and now not speaking. We will find out after the teamsheet is announced tomorrow but it would be a big boost to everyone bar Chelsea and Hoedt himself if he is dropped from the squad.
wild-saint Posted 6 October, 2018 Posted 6 October, 2018 The boss is in town for this one. Gao. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk He turned up last monday unannounced
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Set up for the draw. 5 at the back, without Hoedt, 4 in the middle and Gabbi, Long or Ings up top to do some pointless running around. If Hoedt really is out of the squad he needs to respond in the right way or ship out. Because he is a liability in a Premier League defence at the moment, with a lot to learn.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Bet Hoedt is still in the team! Hopefully not though. Need Yoshi and Vestegaard to form a partnership.
Badger Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 (edited) He turned up last monday unannounced Wasn't he reported to have been at the Wolves match ? Just to add, it seems ridiculous if people are looking to critiscise him for attending matches, it would be a greater concern if he didn't show up at all*. Just hope he sees enough to realise things aren't working as well as they should. *Although Man City don't seem to have done too badly with an owner who has attended twice in ten years according to reports earlier in the season.Just goes to show what can happen if you put the right people in place to run things (not to mention bung a few hundred million in to the coffers). obelisk Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Playing at St Mary's hasn't felt like any sort of home advantage for quite some time now. Might be best to think of this one like an away cup fixture.
scotty Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Playing at St Mary's hasn't felt like any sort of home advantage for quite some time now. Might be best to think of this one like an away cup fixture...... .......minus the hope.
BotleySaint Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Today will unfold as per the Liverpool game. Chelsea 3-0 up within 20 mins meaning nothing to play for in the rest of the game. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than us holding out for 90 mins to concede a late Giroud goal on 90+6 mins.
LGTL Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Has anyone ever felt less confident then they have today? We’re shocking, our home form is probably the worst in the country, and they have the best player in the division. Going to be a proper miserable day.
Millbrook Saint Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 It'll be like most games, Hughes will set up not to concede, we'll do this for a while, whilst offering little up front, this will work for a while and the fans will get excited, eventually Chelsea will settle into the game as we sit back desperately seeing off wave after wave of attacks. Eventually conceding 2 or 3 goals. Interesting to hear the commentators today saying how Fulham have come out to attack and disrupt arsenal, something you'll not hear from a saints team
SaintZamboni Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 We’ll start well today I think. The whole thing from there will hinge on if we can score and push on or if we sit in and try to not lose. 2-1 Saints
kyle04 Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 1 win in the last 14 home games, Eden Hazard, whats not to be optimistic about...?
captainchris Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 If Hughes reverts to the same two central defenders then he really is behind the curve. No excuses, Hoedt needs dropping from the squad let alone the team.....
DT Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 We will know today that if Hoedt is in the side we need a new manager Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Apart from Hoedt, I like that lineup.
Yorkshire Saint Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Interesting.. fans could turn on decisions like this
Pamplemousse Posted 7 October, 2018 Author Posted 7 October, 2018 Gabbiadini playing is good, defence is interesting, would have Vest in there instead of Hoedt but we'll see
Cabbage_Face Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Hoedt = easy win for Chelsea. Won’t even bother turning up, who wants my seat? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
captainchris Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Hoedt obviously has too much influence over Hughes for what ever reason. This will cause resentment with the other players apart from the fact he is crap! Poor decision Hughes... A huge risk for Hughes too as he may lose the crowd if as is likely Hoedt doesn’t perform ..... Mystifying ..
jamesfp1 Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Oddly positive about this one. Probably cos I'm already comfortable with a 4-0 loss. 1-0 Saints (Yoshida 90+1')
bpsaint Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Has anyone ever felt less confident then they have today? We’re shocking, our home form is probably the worst in the country, and they have the best player in the division. Going to be a proper miserable day. i have no confidence in this Saints team to beat any side in the league, no matter how crap they are. Cardiff, Hudds, Newcastle- I reckon they’d all get something from us.

CB Fry Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Well, he's changed it. But can't see anything but a defeat anyway.
Professor Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 You could say Hughes is rewarding players who have performed well in training or in the Everton game but that’s probably not accurate in that he’s chosen that line up on his assessment of current form and with regard to the opposition. In my opinion, he’s done this to put out what he sees as the best team as at today, not to reward individuals.
obelisk Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Strangely relaxed ahead of this game. Defeat to at least a couple of Giroud goals is almost a foregone conclusion so why worry?
Pilchards Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Hoedt = easy win for Chelsea. Won’t even bother turning up, who wants my seat? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Please don’t step in the ground again with that attitude. It stinks!!
saint lard Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 So Moi...Armstrong and Vestergaard all out of the starting 11,or even the squad. And not forgetting Carrillio shipped out. Shows how **** our incomings have been of late. Transfer policy has killed us last couple of seasons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Saint Pete Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Quite like the look of the line up today with the exception of the obvious. However, whatever line up or formation we pick, it's hard to see our current crop of players coping with Hazard and Giroud. Just hope we try to start positively and get some service in to Ings and Gabbi.
shurlock Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 It’s the same back 5 that conceded 5 the last two times we played them.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Good point, other than Ings it's the same team from last season. Our recruitment department really needs a radical change in direction, whatever's happening in the "black box" room, it's not working.

Crab Lungs Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Wesley Hoedt. I f()cking hate him and I’m going right off Hughes too.

Ultimatt Posted 7 October, 2018 Posted 7 October, 2018 Back to the 5-2-3. I wonder how practised we are in it. Last time we got overrun in the middle and our CB's didn't know who to mark. This formation should suit Gabbi so important for him to have a good game.
