Lucky we decided to go with a tight defensive formation, or else could have been facing a real hammering.
Well yes at this stage it just reveals how pointless trying to stay defensive is against Liverpool. Might as well have put 2 up front.

We don’t look half bad going forward. Redmond’s been lively, again.

Cedric is looking better with his crossing, and the midfield is getting forward more.

There's better movement and we're moving the ball quicker.

Even though I expect a heavy loss, I am feeling more encouraged from our forward play.

Armstrong and Austin on for Targett and Romeu at half time please Mr Hughes. None of the usual arbitraily waiting until 60th minute before making a sub please.

Sixth league match and the 4th time we've let in 2 goals. It's not as though teams are carving through us. It's basic stuff. Often just poor concentration.

The reason we look like we are playing OK is, of course, because Liverpool no longer need to break sweat and can take the foot off the gas.

If we got a goal now, they can easily step on it again and run out 7-1 winners.

I know it sounds disloyal, but for those of us that dont use match-day as a reason for catching up with mates, and are too far away to attend regularly, is there any point anymore ?

Lets not delude ourselves that football at English or European level is any longer a sporting competition

Can someone describe the OG please?

Ball deflects off Long in the penalty area from the Saints’ right flank, goes straight to Hoedt who plays it into the net to the keeper’s left with a leaden-footed first touch. In his defence I suppose the deflection would have wrong-footed him.

Not easy to accept but realistically the more important games are to beat the teams in the bottom third, our near rivals.

These games are all about keeping a defeat respectable and just maybe nicking a point on an off day.

Liverpool have hardly had to try very hard and they're 3-0 up at half time. You'd have thought that they'd have learnt by now not to give the ref a chance to award a soft free kick.

If Saints had a decent defence we might stand a chance but at this rate will be well adrift by Christmas.

All in all, Mark Hughes, fu ck off.

we need to get the Big Sam klaxon ready.....

before anyone dismisses it, the idea of Hughes being our manager even 12 months ago would have equally ridiculed
