John Boy Saint Posted 30 August, 2018 Posted 30 August, 2018 Not sure that is within our style, even with Mark Hughes as manager. Romeu can be a bit overzealous in his tackling, and possibly Lemina, but apart from those two it's not an area we prosper in. JWP ?? If we do, then at what stage do we go down to 10 men? Seen JWP stick in a few meaty tackles leaving an oppo on the floor moaning at the ref. The ref has more often than not just gone "I can't believe such a nice young man would have done such a thing..............carry on".

Last few times I've been to Palace I've drunk around Balham, might just do that again...
SuperSAINT Posted 30 August, 2018 Posted 30 August, 2018 Ings is a doubt. https://southamptonfc.com/news/2018-08-30/team-news-mark-hughes-southampton-crystal-palace-premier-league

Pamplemousse Posted 30 August, 2018 Posted 30 August, 2018 Our attacking options are pretty good this season. I wouldn't mind Gallagher starting but it'll probably be Austin.
shurlock Posted 30 August, 2018 Posted 30 August, 2018 And so it starts Least it's only a blister. He missed the Liverpool preseason tour to the US because of a foot/blister problem.

I want it to be Gallagher I'd take it being Austin & Gabbi I fear it'll be Austin by himself or Austin supplemented with Long
the saint in winchester Posted 30 August, 2018 Posted 30 August, 2018 I want it to be Gallagher I'd take it being Austin & Gabbi I fear it'll be Austin by himself or Austin supplemented with Long Haha, this!
Mattio Posted 30 August, 2018 Posted 30 August, 2018 Last few times I've been to Palace I've drunk around Balham, might just do that again... The Bedford is currently closed for a refurb but obviously Balham has a lot of decent options
Matthew Le God Posted 30 August, 2018 Posted 30 August, 2018 Yellow cards no longer apply to separate competitions, whereas straight reds do. But no-one seems to know if a sending off for 2 yellows crosses competitions or not. On the Total Saints podcast Adam Leitch thought he would've served it tonight, but he didn't sound totally convinced. Hojbjerg is not listed as currently suspended on the FA's discipline website.
John Boy Saint Posted 30 August, 2018 Posted 30 August, 2018 Martin Atkinson on the whistle for this one - he can blow different ways for us too.
Saint-Fred Posted 30 August, 2018 Posted 30 August, 2018 I would agree with those predicting a defeat by a two goal margin.
kyle04 Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Based on little evidence, I feel optimistic about this one. 1 - 0 Saints, Vest from a corner....
Dusic Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 No Long pleaseHe is good at running and is a nice lad.
Avenue_Saint Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 McCarthy Cedric Vestergaard Yoshida Bertrand Romeu Lemina Elyounoussi Armstrong Redmond Ings Gunn Targett Hoedt Hojbjerg Long Austin Gallagher
Pamplemousse Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Crystal Palace v Southampton Lawro's prediction: 2-0 Southampton have struggled and scoring goals is their major problem. The Saints have just started to worry me a little bit.
OttawaSaint Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Crystal Palace v Southampton Lawro's prediction: 2-0 Southampton have struggled and scoring goals is their major problem. The Saints have just started to worry me a little bit. Hurrah! We’re going to be OK!!
Fabrice29 Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 No Long please We're a better team with him in it, sadly. He's our best target man. Whether we want the target man to stretch defences, or to win headers or to hold up the ball, he's the best at those things and as a team we need someone in our side to do that as we don't really have the quality to play through teams.

The Saints have just started to worry me a little bit, not to mention their fanbase. There you go, Lawro, I fixed your comment for you.
mrfahaji Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 We're a better team with him in it, sadly. He's our best target man. Whether we want the target man to stretch defences, or to win headers or to hold up the ball, he's the best at those things and as a team we need someone in our side to do that as we don't really have the quality to play through teams. When your best player at 'holding up the ball' is one whose control is equivalent to a short pass, you know you've got problems.
DT Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 i think we'll have a mystifying line-up (including Hoedt) from Hughes, who will then not inspire them to start quickly, after which we will do a bit better, score, then let in a goal immediately before conceding their winner two minutes before full time. As is programmed into our players' thick bonces. We'll then all say it's too early to be worried from the relegation zone, and there are surely three worse teams than us. Most will have a pop at Hughes and we'll think that having another new manager might be best already.
Fabrice29 Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 When your best player at 'holding up the ball' is one whose control is equivalent to a short pass, you know you've got problems. Agreed. However the other option is to play Austin and Gabbiadini and completely surrender any will to hold up the ball or stretch defences at all. Then we can all moan about how unfit, not match fit, isolated or just **** they are...again.
Lighthouse Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Agreed. However the other option is to play Austin and Gabbiadini and completely surrender any will to hold up the ball or stretch defences at all. Then we can all moan about how unfit, not match fit, isolated or just **** they are...again. I'd have a front 3 of Ings, Gabbi and Redmond personally, with Armstrong in behind. Don't want to see either Austin or Long starting.
Saint_Tony Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 We've won a few times up here in the last few seasons but sadly it's difficult to predict anything other than a defeat. It's early days but it seems we are carrying on from last season's dire form. 3-1 Palace (Zaha, Milivojevic, Townsend, Ings). Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Hard to see anything but us being bottom of the table at 5pm tomorrow.
saint77 Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Hard to see anything but us being bottom of the table at 5pm tomorrow. Can’t see the bottom 3 picking up points so probably as we are
hackedoff Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Can’t see the bottom 3 picking up points so probably as we are It didn't take long into the season before we started to keep an eye on the bottom three.
Crisp Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Is anyone from Bitterne area travelling up for this tomorrow? I am in London but need to collect some tickets from someone in Bitterne. Would anyone be so kind as to get those tickets for me and meet at Selhurst Park?! It's a big ask but would make things a lot easier for me and make my little one very happy! Obviously I would buy a few pints in return...
Pamplemousse Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Hard to see anything but us being bottom of the table at 5pm tomorrow. You think Huddersfield won't lose at Everton?
OttawaSaint Posted 31 August, 2018 Posted 31 August, 2018 Please no more Wesley Hoedt. Hughes has the Hoedts for him...
Pilchards Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 Please no more Wesley Hoedt. It’s probably written in bold on his contract. You will start every game even if your crap.
ericofarabia Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 You think Huddersfield won't lose at Everton? 0-0 nailed on with that one I reckon. Looking down the fixture list there are some pretty dire fixtures today with only possibly Chelsea v Bomo attractive to watch, if Bomo decide to give it a go. Hopefully Wolves will add to to WHU's woes and keep us away from bottom spot and Puell keeps up his stopping Liverpool score record!! Under pressure Moanrinhio to park the bus for a 0-0 draw at Burnley too. Best league in the world though.
Supersubpuckett Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 got to the point where I expect us to lose every game, feels like the 90s again 3-0 palace
BARCELONASAINT Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 can't see anything but a loss, 2-0 Palarse........like some other posters I have actually taken to betting on Saints losing which is a sad state of affairs....plus side I have made some money!
doddisalegend Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 got to the point where I expect us to lose every game, feels like the 90s again 3-0 palace but without MLT...
Batman Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 (edited) We will play half decent for about 1 half worth. They will start fast and we will have the first 10 mins or defending the 18 yard line with Hoedt whacking the ball everywhere 2-0 to palace, with us giving up the middle of the park along with Hughes moaning about the ref Edited 1 September, 2018 by Batman
OldNick Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 Is it right that Ings is out with blisters????
Jonnyboy Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 Is it right that Ings is out with blisters???? Jeez, cant they just put a plaster on them??
OldNick Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 Jeez, cant they just put a plaster on them??I only heard a snippet on the radio, and they said he was doubtful due to blisters. what has he done to get those???? New pair of branded boots for merchandising that don't fit properly??
scotty Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 got to the point where I expect us to lose every game, feels like the 90s again 3-0 palace 2-1, but I agree with the general sentiment.
Dalek2003 Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 Have we gone back in a time machine?, seems like we are back in the 90's. 2-0 to Palace.
BotleySaint Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 got to the point where I expect us to lose every game, feels like the 90s again 3-0 palaceSame here. Our mentality is so fragile that one goal will lead to another. Palace will be up for it and expect 3pts.
Batman Posted 1 September, 2018 Posted 1 September, 2018 Watching Hoedt spooning the ball over the place will be funny. Then I will remember, he sees himself as a champions league level sort of player
