Had a quick read of the St Mirren forum, it sounds as though their manager is planning on playing him as a DM with "bonus" CB experience. Also said he will probably go straight into the squad for their game at the weekend. Their fans say they don't have a DM so if Alfie plays there he could be getting a lot of game time.

Not sure he's got the mobility for midfield, from what I've seen.
