VectisSaint Posted 16 August, 2018 Posted 16 August, 2018 If Moi doesn't make it as sounds likely then I think we will go with 3 CBs again due to a lack of attacking wide players, unless Armstrong could play on the opposite side to Redmond. Surely Armstrong is a doubt as well if he only returned to training today. Great start, 50% of our new outfield players already injured.
mrfahaji Posted 16 August, 2018 Posted 16 August, 2018 Surely Armstrong is a doubt as well if he only returned to training today. Great start, 50% of our new outfield players already injured. And Danny Ings isn't one of them! (yet... uh oh, now I've done it)
saint lard Posted 16 August, 2018 Posted 16 August, 2018 I wonder if instead of Ings being a sicknote that Moi might take that honour. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Saint Billy Posted 17 August, 2018 Posted 17 August, 2018 What a cock. Starting with labels already after one game... Agreed apart from we do have a habit of signing them.
norwaysaint Posted 17 August, 2018 Posted 17 August, 2018 I haven't watched enough football recently to have an opinion on it here, but at the end of last season everyone was going on about Bednarek being the only decent centre back we had, now everyone is calling for Yoshida, Hoedt or Stephens to play. What happened? Is he injured? Nobody?
UpweySaint Posted 17 August, 2018 Posted 17 August, 2018 Apparently Southgate will be in attendance, the article says largely to watch McCarthy; https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/aug/17/gareth-southgate-england-alex-mccarthy-southampton Few of ours probably have a point to prove (RB) and others may not be far from call ups.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 17 August, 2018 Posted 17 August, 2018 Nobody? I’d certainly have him in the team ahead of Hoedt, personally.
Batman Posted 17 August, 2018 Posted 17 August, 2018 Apparently Southgate will be in attendance, the article says largely to watch McCarthy; https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/aug/17/gareth-southgate-england-alex-mccarthy-southampton Few of ours probably have a point to prove (RB) and others may not be far from call ups. Hope so, Hart is in fine form for Burnley and will be inching to get back. With pope injured and Butland in the championship, hitting up for spots 2 and 3 in the squad
captainchris Posted 17 August, 2018 Posted 17 August, 2018 Several references to keeping it tight at Everton by Hughes ..... Back five again or bluff ... ?
Pamplemousse Posted 17 August, 2018 Posted 17 August, 2018 Hope so, Hart is in fine form for Burnley and will be inching to get back. With pope injured and Butland in the championship, hitting up for spots 2 and 3 in the squad Is Butland likely to be dropped?

With pope injured and Butland in the championship, hitting up for spots 2 and 3 in the squad Very much spots up for grabs behind Pickford as clear number one. Bertrand must fancy himself over Rose as well.
Batman Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Is Butland likely to be dropped? If McCarthy and hart perform well in the prem, probably

McCarthy better get to work on his distribution then...
angelman Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Apparently 2 home bankers today with Ladbroke (I think that talksport said it was them) - Spurs and Everton.
DT Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Apparently 2 home bankers today with Ladbroke (I think that talksport said it was them) - Spurs and Everton. not a great accumulator but essentially free money
angelman Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Think I saw Sky advertising a price boost from 4/1 to 6/1 for Spurs, Leicester and Everton to all home win.
5string Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Come on Saints go positive, this is very winnable .... Agreed. We need to think more like this.
nta786 Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 It’s a 442! But Stephens and Hoedt in defence! No Vestergaard :/ JWP and Redmond start McCarthy Cedric Stephens Hoedt Bertrand JWP Romeu Lemina Redmond Austin Ings
beatlesaint Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 That’s a very strange line up, would have thought Armstrong’s energy and ability to carry the ball forward would have been key.
Dusic Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Vestergaard travlled (is in the twitter video) but is ill according to Adam Leitch. If so, a bit odd to travel. JWP has earned a recall somehow, but good to see a back 4 and will be interesting how we setup with Ings and Austin. Tosun header inevitable though.
Holbury Saint Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Bloody hell no vestergaard!!! Stephens and Hoedt!!! 0-4
Pamplemousse Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Hoedt and Stephens, what a terrifying proposition. For us. Defensively they're not great though so I reckon a field day for both sets of attackers.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Could it be 4-3-3 rather than 4-4-2? Ings and Redmond either side of Austin.
IOWSaintDaz Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Without Vestergaard we are a sitting duck with that pairing in the centre.......not even on the bench?????
ButtikonSaint Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 quite attacking line-up, like it JWP triple assist to DI... 0-3 tothe Saints... COYS
Saint Without a Halo Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 So only ings playing from the four signings brought in to improve the team
SuperSAINT Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 If Tosun is playing he's going to love playing against Stephens & Hoedt.
whelk Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Well, Gareth wanted to see McCarthy in action V good
Saint Albert Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Vestergaard must be injured to not even make the bench, but the only injury doubt mentioned by Hughes in the lead-up was Moi, who also did not make the bench.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 I would rather have gone with Yoshida and Bednarek than Hoedt and Stephens
shurlock Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 The chuckle brothers are dead. Long live the chuckle brothers.
CB Fry Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Okay, we're going to get annihilated. See you next week.
whelk Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 So only ings playing from the four signings brought in to improve the team Yeah let’s play injured and ill players
obelisk Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Defending corners and free kicks launched into the penalty area will be moments of worry with that line up. Maybe we simply plan to outscore them.
Saint Albert Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 If Tosun is playing he's going to love playing against Stephens & Hoedt. He is.
Saint-Fred Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 I think that's positive from Hughes..shows he isn't as stubborn as some believe. Stephens and Hoedt did OK in some games last season so not sure why such a big downer on them?
captainchris Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Strange line up again, even allowing for illness and injury.... If Hoedt is better than Yoshida then - well ..... we need to control the ball up there so definitely would have had Gabbiadini instead of Austin..... Romeu again - not sure either ... It was an odd selection last week to start with too....
team-saint Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Reckon it will be a 4-2-3-1 with Ings playing as a 10
davefizzy14 Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 Reckon it will be a 4-2-3-1 with Ings playing as a 10 Hopefully this!
benjii Posted 18 August, 2018 Posted 18 August, 2018 That's a rank team. Expect a thumping followed by a hasty retreat to a back 5.
