I went along on a Sunday morning to watch a friend and got roped in to running the line. I gave a goal against my friend's team when the ball went over the line in a goalmouth scramble and the ref was unsighted. There was a massive shout of appeal and they all looked at me. I think everybody was a bit surprised when I pointed to the centre circle. My only ever MOTM! 🙂

Mate, you want to try reffing a game after you've volunteered after straining a hammy warming-up. Not sure who abused me most:  my team or the opposition. I still recall a classic:  a burly ex-rugby player (bit like me at the time) cop from my team who basically ran over a small guy on the ball from behind (pretty much elbowed him out of the way). I called a free kick against him  (miles from goal so no threat) and got an absolute mouthful that I've never forgotten. One of the things I like about rugby is that there is very little ref abuse. I love football, but I hate this side of it. I don't know how some of the refs in the PL can take it. Anyway, I digress.

With two years left, I hope we can get this done. If he doesn't sign a new contract by next summer, someone will get a bargain similar to the Hojbjerg transfer. Still he seems to love being here and he's fit as a fiddle now so I hope we can get this done soon.

Indeed. I'm guessing Ings didn't rule out riding on the back of an elephant through IKEA car park disguised as Bobby Davro either? Make of that what you will...

I know for a fact his dad Shayne is a big Bobby Davro fan and has bought a sofa a kitchen unit from ikea, guess a  champions league runners  DVD will look great alongside The Davro does Derby Box set.

They will be looking at next summer when he only has a year left. Wouldn’t it be great if they went down this season.....!

BBC Sports page reporting Tottenham's interest in Ings this morning. What a surprise! Unsettle the very player who sank them last time with a "wonder goal", just a week before we play them again. Is that the best they can do? To be honest though, Kane is looking a shadow of the player he was, including those recent England performances. I wonder if he's carrying an injury and Spurs know it........hoping one of the big clubs from Europe come in for him, thereby eyeing up Ings as a replacement. All conjecture of course, me thinking aloud and just throwing it out there....

Yeah, I can see it playing out unfort.

We wouldn't be able to pay him the wages he probably feels he wants now, so he's going to bide his time, it'll get to next summer and we'll have a 'can't lose him for free' scenario develop in front of our eyes. £30-40m? Tops.

If he has another season like last then he’ll be gone next summer, regardless of whether he signs a new contract or not.

We know how this end so let’s not stress about it just accept it!

Surely Danny will stay as long as we are a successful team. If we have a good season and genuinely challenge for Europe then there is no reason why a local lad who has supported the club since he was a toddler would want to leave. Yes he might get more money at a big club but it's not all about money, in any case Saints no doubt would make it attractive enough for him to stay here without making a song and dance about it.

Wayne Bridge was a local lad who had supported Saints since he was a toddler. Saints had just qualified for Europe with a cup final and a top 8 finish, yet he left. Unfortunately the romantic notion that he'll stay here forever because he loves the club and the fans is not reality for most players.  We are supposedly talking to him about a new deal, lets see how that pans out.

I agree, he has ticked the box of pulling on the Saints shirt scored at FP, he would of course be interested if a top 6 side came in for him

Only way to stop speculation is to get him signed to a new deal, otherwise we will have to sell next summer should the demand be there.

Should think he would be opwn to it if we start the season well and show improvement.

He will have an eye on the Euros so knows he needs to be playing regularly, and also scoring.

Would he want to go there to be behind Kane & Son. Wouldn't  think they'd  play all three together.  Plus it wouldn't do his England chances much good sat on the bench for half the season I'd have thought.

But, if Ings did want to go then you would hope that he would sign a new contract to at least ensure we got his true value. You do see some players do this, as we could lose 10s of millions if he was to go into the final year of his contract. 

If he goes on the cheap then he would be near impossible to replace, harder than if we did get the £50m+. Especially, if we still have Gao, as the Ings money would have to be spread over three players as we can only spend what we generate from player sales.

There would be no better time to sell him. His stock is currently at its highest, there is no way he’ll replicate last season and with another year down on his contract, his value will also decrease. 
 

there is also potentially some value in the market with clubs struggling financially £50-£60m could go a long way to improving our overall squad. 
 

The trouble is, Tottenham  won’t offer anything near to what it’ll take to get him.

I don’t know, possibly. When we were in the same position as Wolves a few years back, even closer to the Champions League than they were, there was always the threat that our best players would still leave for Tottenham and even Everton, and some did. 
 

Matt Doherty, who was key in the Wolves set-up in the wing-back role has also just made the same move.

Pretty sure this is just agent leaks to help bargaining power during talks.  I'm not saying a deal with Saints will happen, but there's more chance of a good deal if there's "Interest" elsewhere

This summer, with a quality season behind him we could probably quote £50m for Ings.

Next summer, if he were to make it clear he didn't want to sign a new one and wasn't as high profile performance wise then it would probably drop to £15-20m if we were lucky given his age.

Lets hope he signs a new deal fairly soon because it won't end well otherwise (and there are probably no adequate replacements that will be available for our £12m - £15m price range!)

IMO he will either sign one by Oct/Nov or won't at all.

Which bigger club would want to pay £15m-£20m for a forward who had a bad season, goal wise though?

I'd have thought "bigger" clubs would want one that's knocking them in like he was last season!

Sounds like they inquired and we said "not for sale". This has been reiterated by Tom Barclay. Could cause issues next summer but I think I'd rather us lose out on ~20m on transfer fee and sell him cheaper and not risk going in to a season without him personally. Plus I think we can convince him to stay, especially given most sources reckon we will likely have a take over in the next year or so.

Danny has been already on the books of a VERY BIG top 6 club, indeed the PL champions no less but it didn't suit him to be on their bench so he left. Not many people would have had the strength of character to do that. I doubt he would even contemplate leaving us to join a second rate outfit like Spurs after his top level exposure and experiences. He seems very hungry for week-in week-out football not just the odd cameo at the whim of a half-crazed crackpot manager.

Yeah, the contract situation will dictate everything.

It'll probably be like the Hojbjerg situation and we will have a tremendous replacement lined up immediately... .................
