Dr. Kucho Posted 5 August, 2018 Share Posted 5 August, 2018 With the UK transfer window closing on the 9th of August and the window in the most of Europe open till August 31. Which players would you sell (if a offer came in) after the 9th of August? knowing we cannot replace them. I would listen to offers for: Forster: obvious reasons. Hoedt: average and with Vestergaard, Yoshida, Bednarek and Stephens as CB options (with Bertrand as emergency back up), we have enough cover. Hoedt doesn’t have stand out qualities. Lemina: bloke is obviously very talented, however it seems like he always has issues, injured, out of form, not bothered. Davis: has done great for us only passed it now. saintadam Posted 5 August, 2018 Share Posted 5 August, 2018 The Lemina criticism is so unfair Imo. AFor me he’s been overall good, probably the best midfielder at the club. He is someone that could make a difference and have shown that on several occasions. People are crying out for player who got these special qualities and it’s a shame they can appreciate it when they are right in front of you. I wonder if it is his “flamboyant” personality/style that people don’ relate to rather than how he plays.

Badger Posted 5 August, 2018 Share Posted 5 August, 2018 FF - without a doubt. Hoedt & Lemina - I suspect the club are hoping for a good season from them before selling on at profit. Perhaps a risky strategy at the moment.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 5 August, 2018 Share Posted 5 August, 2018 It’d make no sense to sell Hoedt or Lemina when we couldn’t buy replacements. The other two yes, as they are unlikely to be replaced.

Bags of talent and skills but the wrong mindset and way to many injuries. I am sure he could be a very good player for another club, I doubt it’s going to work out here. Evil Monkey Posted 6 August, 2018 Share Posted 6 August, 2018 Although he was pretty bad on Saturday, Lemina is top class. Early on in the game he showed this by drifted past opposition midfielders with ease. Then we were on the back foot, and he wasn't been given the ball. You could see his frustration. He then tried to be too clever every time he WAS given it, by letting the ball run past him, intending to run on to it. Gladbachs pressing though meant he lost it several times. It was very tight in the midfield with so many bodies in there. The rest of the team's attempts at one touch play was embarrassing, and caused just as many losses of possession as Lemina did. I've seen more than enough from him over the last year to know that he should play every game. I don't think the formation suits his either. Playing as a cdm he receives the ball very deep, so even if he can skin his man, we're not much better off. 433 would be better for him, and the team imo. Saint IQ Posted 6 August, 2018 Share Posted 6 August, 2018 Cedric and Hoedt, ideally both replaced but a quality right back is a must.

IMO I'd comtemplate selling those 3 BEFORE the deadline if we could sign better replacements but certainly not AFTER the deadline. Firstly Hoedt - We play with 3 centre backs currently, as dictated by our manager. Going into the season with 4 specialists for those positions would be crazy. Sure, if we revert to 2 centre backs for the season, 4 is enough, but I'd have concerns with Bednarek and Stephens backing up Vestergaard and Yoshida for a whole season. I do think Bertrand could do a job at left centre back in a 3 centre back system, but that would be at the expense of having him in his best position. Hoedt may have had a poor pre-season, but he improved towards the tail end of last season, and who's to say that, after a 38+ game season he won't have surprised us all and improved further, especially with Vestergaard alongside him. Secondly Lemina - I'm not a huge fan of his, if the right offer came in (probably £30 million+ in today's crazy transfer market) BEFORE the deadline I'd not hesitate in selling him and bringing in someone else, but he has undoubted quality and played Palace off the park last season. I'd certainly not sell him after the deadline, where he would actually HAVE to knuckle down and play well if he wants a bigger team move. Thirdly Davis - Granted I see him having reduced game time this season, and if he asked to leave I'd let him, but he still has something to offer, and not having the ability to replace him would be foolish. IMO attacking midfield is our weakest position IMO, and even though Davis isn't a specialist in that position, we've seen from previous years he can do a job there. The only player I'd sell after the deadline would be Forster. Surprises can happen though, I just hope nobody kicks off and we either have an unhappy player on our hands or are forced to sell them. Earlier in the summer I said I wouldn't sign a specialist right back as we have cover within the squad and Cedric ends up playing most of the season anyway, but now I would bring in a "back up right back" (in quotes as I'd actually want one as good if not better than Cedric to "challenge"/replace him) just in case, seeing as Hughes doesn't seem to trust Valery to yet play there (or I'd have assumed we'd have tried him there in pre-season for more than 45 minutes in the first game.)
