Saints foreva Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 I'm pretty sure a few sides would take Yoshida. He's the only one who stands out from that list but realistically it would only be the expected strugglers imo...
doddisalegend Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 LOL nice shot of a bunch of bright red, half naked Germans and their beer bellies there..
Valesaint Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 http://sslsports.co/SouthamptonvsBorussiaM'gladbach.php Thanks for that. Working well with Puffin on IPad.
doddisalegend Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 wow this is **** poor cant string two passes together and we look very lethargic if I'm being kind the heat can't be helping
Suhari Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 We really don't have any ideas or ability in attack.
Saints foreva Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Should be 2. Good save McCarthy. Too easy for them against that awful backline.
Batman Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 we are going to really struggle this season aren't we! terrible at the back
Saints foreva Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Yet more ****e defending. They miss a sitter.
Edmonton Saint Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Terrible so far. Devoid of any coherent attacking ideas and getting cut apart at will in the back.
pimpin4rizeal Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 we are going to really struggle this season aren't we! terrible at the back maybe we can try gunn and forster as cbs
doddisalegend Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 We really don't have any ideas or ability in attack. I haven't seen our wing backs put in a decent cross yet surely they should be getting forward and putting crosses into the box to give Austin and Gabbi a chance
Suhari Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 That really was dismal defending. Should have scored. So, so poor.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 We are only good at simple sideways passes in midfield
Mosin Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 we are going to really struggle this season aren't we! terrible at the back TBF, its the lack of covering from the midfield more than the defenders, yes they are poor, but the midfield is none existent. I don't like this formation, rather we went back to 433 / 451 / 4231.
shurlock Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 We are only good at simple sideways passes in midfield Hoj is terrible on the ball.
egg Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Vestergaard was a signing for the sake of a signing. Him alongside Hoedt is a car crash - both slow as hell. If we must play a 3 we need Bertrand on left of a 3, and Yoshida in there somewhere. If a 4 then Yoshida plus a roll of the dice from the others.
Saints foreva Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 I think Hughes needs to ditch this 3 at the back and switch it to a flat 4. Get Yoshida in there with Vestergaad as it's clear we won't be in the market for another CB, so hope they can form some sort of partnership.
saintsmike25 Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Not a great first half, we aren't using Gabbi enough. Austin looks a passenger, Targett struggling as is Hoedt. Bertrand very sloppy on the ball. The only players who look interested are Armstrong/Gabbi
doddisalegend Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 A chance, but off side, at least it was three on three rather than last seasons one on four.
Dark Munster Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 It's ok, our 2nd string will tear their 2nd string a new one in the second half.
verlaine1979 Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Aside from Lemina, Gabbi and occasional flashes from Bertrand out wide, we look so lumbering from back to front. BM are so much more energetic (and technically accomplished on this evidence). They remind me a bit of us under Poch - not really star-studded, but playing with a very clear strategy & identity.
hackedoff Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Is there nobody at this club with any football nous that can do anything to change this? Repeat season coming up.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 It's ok, our 2nd string will tear their 2nd string a new one in the second half. And then all will be well
doddisalegend Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Vestergaard was a signing for the sake of a signing. Him alongside Hoedt is a car crash - both slow as hell. If we must play a 3 we need Bertrand on left of a 3, and Yoshida in there somewhere. If a 4 then Yoshida plus a roll of the dice from the others. He wasn't a signing for sake of it. He was an attempt to rectify our complete lack of ability to deal with high balls into the box last season which we couldn't deal with game after game and cost us points. On the down side he looks like he will struggle against tricky players who run at him.
Suhari Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 This could be a tough season. We really do look poor.
OldNick Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 It is always amusing reading the reports on here, when we see the game as is it is rarely is it as bad as some see it here.
doddisalegend Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Why aren't we using our wingbacks more the whole point of them is to give this formation threat from out wide and yet they hardly seem in the game.
Cabbage_Face Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Relegation season. Shouldve just gone down last year saved all this nonsense.
redkeith Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 I have been trying yo work out why Ted Mac Dougall is playing no 10. Austin has been that bad. No movement, can't trap the ball, can't find a red shirt and a complete waste of space outide the penalty box. Gabbi and Armstrong are our only threat. No pace, no artisrty , no fgkin hope with that line up.
Graffito Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 He wasn't a signing for sake of it. He was an attempt to rectify our complete lack of ability to deal with high balls into the box last season which we couldn't deal with game after game and cost us points. On the down side he looks like he will struggle against tricky players who run at him. I’m hoping, may be a vain hope, that yoshida’s greater mobility beside him will make up a little for Vestergaard’s immobility.
mulletsaint Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Aside from Lemina, Gabbi and occasional flashes from Bertrand out wide, we look so lumbering from back to front. BM are so much more energetic (and technically accomplished on this evidence). They remind me a bit of us under Poch - not really star-studded, but playing with a very clear strategy & identity. Very poor performance overall. Lemina has looked a like a headless chicken so disagree with you there. We keep dithering about with it at the back when playing out and look very nervy as a result. Poor passing and a distinct lack of a game plan or shape. Austin pressing on his own and most of the players looking like they’re running in treacle. I know we’ve struggled for goals but I think the two up top leaves us outnumbered in midfield. All in all the signs aren’t good for the season ahead.
Saints foreva Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 It is always amusing reading the reports on here, when we see the game as is it is rarely is it as bad as some see it here. It's probably worse tbf.

So true and again a team with less resources players on lower pay and one whom we just stripped of allegededly their best centre back look so much more better than us across the park and also i should add a team weeks behind us in early season preparation Why? And who is responsible?
striker Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Out midfield needs to change, its terrible. We've had the ball in what I would call one attacking position all half, and got a shot out of it. The rest of the time Borussia is controling the ball on their side of the pitch. Gabbi and Austin are getting 95% of their touches at midfield, not going to score many from there. The CB's are under constant pressure because the mids can't get the ball. It feels like we're in the 93rd minute and parking the bus. Of course eventually someone breaks through. Either the midfield players or formation needs to change. I have to believe Hughes sees this and is still experimenting.
Saint Albert Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 If Hughes sticks with the present defensive formation, I’d rather see Yoshi on the right of the three CBs. His pace would be useful, particularly if Targett is the RWB. There was some good interplay between Gabbi and Armstrong, that was somewhat encouraging. Very pleased with Armstrong so far.
OldNick Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 It's probably worse tbf.well to be fair you are not the usual wrist slitter and so take your judgement on it
Graffito Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Why aren't we using our wingbacks more the whole point of them is to give this formation threat from out wide and yet they hardly seem in the game. Not watching the game but it’s often the case that if you can’t get and keep possession in centre mid the wide players are out of the game.
Shroppie Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 He's not everyone's favourite, but JWP is needed to hold things together and bring some coherence. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
doggface Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Another poor 1st half. Let’s hope we show up 2nd half like we did midweek. They should have scored 3 goals that half. Gabby decent for us but should have buried his chance. back 3 look terrible
shurlock Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Austin and Gabbi don't work. They've not really clicked in the past. No reason to think they will now. Need one of Redmond, JWP and Mou in there linking midfield and attack.
striker Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 If the midfield doesn't start functioning, then it reall doesn't matter who the strikers or CB's are. Everyone will look terrible.
doddisalegend Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 Not watching the game but it’s often the case that if you can’t get and keep possession in centre mid the wide players are out of the game. Well we are certainly losing the ball a lot in the middle of the park but even when we don't we seem to be looking to feed balls through the middle rather than out wide.

He was an attempt to rectify our complete lack of ability to deal with high balls into the box last season which we couldn't deal with game after game and cost us points. On the down side he looks like he will struggle against tricky players who run at him. I thought we signed Hoedt to deal with balls in the air. Having signed Hoedt, and committed to a back 3, we should have signed a player to complement him. Signing someone who shows up the worst qualities in both of them was ridiculous. And as for playing for them together in a back 4...
Pilchards Posted 4 August, 2018 Posted 4 August, 2018 **** me I fell asleep around the 35th minute mark and I’ve just woken up. My team has bored me again.
