We have named a 23 man squad - McQueen must be formally on Middlesbrough's books even though it was reported he was back in Southampton receiving treatment as he's omitted. Isn't McQueen likely to be omitted because he had a season ending ruptured ACL rather than him still being on Middlesbrough's books? (same difference I guess)
VectisSaint Posted 1 February, 2019 Share Posted 1 February, 2019 McQueen is out for the season, ruptured ACL beginning of November, so would not have been named anyway, whether he is still with Boro or Saints. No idea whether he did return to Saints for rehab or stayed at Boro, suspect he would have come back to Saints.

saintmonkey1979 Posted 1 February, 2019 Share Posted 1 February, 2019 He's scottish. All home nations are as foreign as any other country in uefa / Fifa rules.I thought it may be something like that, but surely that would be the same for Long and Davis then? VectisSaint Posted 2 February, 2019 Share Posted 2 February, 2019 He's scottish. All home nations are as foreign as any other country in uefa / Fifa rules. Rubbish. It has nothing to do with nationality. Players qualify as homegrown in the English PL if the were trained by an English club for 3 years before the age of 21. Long was at Reading for 3 years from 2005,Davis was a Villa youth player. Cesc Fabregas qualified as homegrown. Armstrong was trained by Dundee Utd so does not qualify as homegrown. Over land and sea Posted 2 February, 2019 Share Posted 2 February, 2019 EDIT - just seen previous reply. But here is the detail of the rule from the PL website (at the bottom of the latest squad listings) What is a Home-Grown Player? A "Home-Grown Player" means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21). Davis was born in 1985 and joined Aston Villa in 2002. Long was born in January 97 and joined Reading in 2005 - aged 18.
