Baird of the land Posted 16 October, 2020 Posted 16 October, 2020 Shame we couldn’t sell Gunn. Maybe next summer. Be interesting to see if he actually plays at stoke considering Davies seems to have started the season well for them.
Saint Garrett Posted 16 October, 2020 Posted 16 October, 2020 Was surprised of the link option to buy, glad that’s not been included. Still think he could be a great talent for us. Hope he has a great season
Simon3737 Posted 17 October, 2020 Posted 17 October, 2020 Best case scenario: he has a great season, Stoke get to the playoffs and lose. Then we have a ready made sweeper keeper type who can stop goals too.

Gunn is not their number 1 keeper so will more be on the bench more often than not, which unfortunately will not give him much more game time. Their no. 1 is Davies the Wales national keeper and has been performing well according to Stokes fans forum. https://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/296879/davies

HarvSFC Posted 27 October, 2020 Posted 27 October, 2020 Had the match on in the background prior to Gunn coming on. A mix of poor defending and Gunn being too slow to come off his line was the fault for Swansea's second goal. Gunn ended up catching Palmer, missing the ball completely when coming for a punch, Palmer just had to get the ball on target. He also almost gifted Swansea a goal earlier in the match as he had to stop a back pass from going in with his hand after slipping up (indirect free kick given in the box, blocked by the defence). Had a search of his name on Twitter to get Stoke fans' verdict of his debut and they're writing him off already. Won't have helped with his confidence.

UpweySaint Posted 30 October, 2020 Posted 30 October, 2020 Stoke's first choice Davies has been ruled out for 4-8 weeks with a knee injury according to the BBC. A few weeks for Angus to hopefully settle in to their side and rebuild his confidence.
SuperSAINT Posted 31 October, 2020 Author Posted 31 October, 2020 Kept a clean sheets as Stoke won 1-0 against Rotherham. Rotherham didn’t have a shot on target though according to the Skysports app.
danjosaint Posted 31 October, 2020 Posted 31 October, 2020 And he had assist for there goal according to the app

skintsaint Posted 3 November, 2020 Posted 3 November, 2020 How did he play though? Or do keepers only count if a shot is on target....?

Appy Posted 4 November, 2020 Posted 4 November, 2020 He was stitched up a bit on the penalty to be fair, howler from defender.

Baird of the land Posted 7 November, 2020 Posted 7 November, 2020 Seems like he hada decent game in their 3-0 nil win

the saint in winchester Posted 20 November, 2020 Posted 20 November, 2020 We could loan them Fraser Forster, as long as they pay his wages in full.

Lots of problems with that. The window is closed and Stokes other keepers will be back by the time it does open. Stoke couldn't get remotely close to Forster's wages.
the saint in winchester Posted 20 November, 2020 Posted 20 November, 2020 I know. The comment was tongue-in-cheek, knowing it couldn't happen. They will need to look for a free agent. Tommy Forecast?
Lets B Avenue Posted 20 November, 2020 Posted 20 November, 2020 They've been able to recall a 20 yo, who was on loan for the season at Doncaster. He was playing for England U21 the other night.

Matthew Le God Posted 25 February, 2021 Posted 25 February, 2021 Gunn has agreed to extend the loan at Stoke for the 2021/22 season... https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-angus-gunn-southampton-5042794

I imagine that means we expect to stick with Fraser and McCarthy for next season. (I think Fraser still has a year or 2 left?)

The optimist in me says maybe Forster goes back to Celtic given they clearly need him, McCarthy becomes our bench option with this new deal on lower wages, and we make an effort to sign someone new, Johnstone from West Brom has been ok and I'd take one of Areola, Darlow, Dubravka, or Pope (way out of our price range, likely) from the most likely third relegated side.
VectisSaint Posted 25 February, 2021 Posted 25 February, 2021 I thought we were trying to get the kid from Accrington Stanley (Toby Savin), who would be the backup to McCarthy.
Archers Road Stand Posted 25 February, 2021 Posted 25 February, 2021 Another player who will be loaned out until his current deal expires. £10m+ wasted. 1
Badger Posted 6 May, 2021 Posted 6 May, 2021 Not sure I like the sound of this bit: Quote Stoke still have the option to bring him back on loan for the 2021-22 campaign. every chance we'll have all three of them sat around next season at this rate. 1
