Bad Wolf Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Yessss!!! Great news! Even if it does only hike his price up!
EBS1980 Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 He was in the kit launch so obvious he wasn’t going anywhere. Just a case of if we sell Forster and buy Gunn now.
sadoldgit Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Rumours that we are sniffing around Angus Gunn so perhaps FF will be off?
Bad Wolf Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 He was in the kit launch so obvious he wasn’t going anywhere. Just a case of if we sell Forster and buy Gunn now. Will we have to beat Leicester to sign him I wonder?
Give it to Ron Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Great news such a difference when he replaced the human waving windsock . Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
View From The Top Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Great news such a difference when he replaced the human waving windsock . Loving that description.
Tamesaint Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 I was told on here he was being sold... was i mislead ? Yes. The club is in a mess and McCarthy is going to Liverpool.
doddisalegend Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Well deserved I don't think its an exaggeration to say his performances in the last few games of the season where the difference between us going down and staying up son absolutely vital saves in those last games.
qwertyell Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Guess we're not signing Gunn then. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
davefizzy14 Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Brilliant news this. It was key to tie Alex down long term and we've done that now! Get in
Pamplemousse Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Guess we're not signing Gunn then. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk We will, as backup to McCarthy Forster will probably be sold.
SuperSAINT Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 We will, as backup to McCarthy Forster will probably be sold. Maybe a Chinese club will sign him & use him as a Totem.
SuperSAINT Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Adam Blackmore interview with him: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06c79f2
Chez Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Good news. He looked very assured last season. How good he really is I am not sure. I just know that he is better than Forster. I wonder whether Forster will now actually look for a move or simply bide his tide waiting for another chance or indeed just sit on the bench collecting the vast sums we are paying him?
scotty Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Good news. He looked very assured last season. How good he really is I am not sure. I just know that he is better than Forster. I wonder whether Forster will now actually look for a move or simply bide his tide waiting for another chance or indeed just sit on the bench collecting the vast sums we are paying him? You'd think Forster would have to swallow a fair dip in club level and wages to move on. His stock hasn't exactly risen over the last season.
qwertyell Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 We will, as backup to McCarthy Forster will probably be sold.I doubt Gunn will want to be backup when he's already good enough to be first choice at any Championship club and a fair few Premier League teams. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
spyinthesky Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Best news this summer so far. Good news and hopefully he will progress with the good form displayed at the end of the season Another £1m pa in wages though?
Chez Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Good news and hopefully he will progress with the good form displayed at the end of the season Another £1m pa in wages though? yep. More money going out, but the side is no stronger as a result. Not much the club could do having made a total **** up with Forster.
Ohio Saint Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Relieved to see everyone is pleased! I half expected to be reading how stupid I was for being happy about this! He was our best player last season, albeit that was not hard, but I expect him to consolidate and maybe improve a little next season.
Saint_clark Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 Good news and hopefully he will progress with the good form displayed at the end of the season Another £1m pa in wages though? That's only £20k a week? Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk
Toadhall Saint Posted 27 June, 2018 Posted 27 June, 2018 That's only £20k a week? Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk I would imagine that’s on top of what he was already earning

Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk No reason why they both cannot compete for top spot. He will have a much better chance with than MC
Saint_clark Posted 28 June, 2018 Posted 28 June, 2018 I would imagine that’s on top of what he was already earningAbsolutely but it's not a huge chunk of the wage budget gone... Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk

Almost suggesting we should never offer players new and improved contracts as it doesn't improve the team. Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk
rooney Posted 28 June, 2018 Posted 28 June, 2018 If he can take his form from last season into the new season we shall all be well pleased .Good for him.
Wurzel Posted 28 June, 2018 Posted 28 June, 2018 That's only £20k a week? Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk Sad reflection of modern day football that that sentence includes the word "only"! Good signing, now to get FF off the payroll.
Professor Posted 28 June, 2018 Posted 28 June, 2018 Not long ago, there was concern we could lose McCarthy following his excellent performances and talk of consideration for England. Great work by the club to fend off others with a 4-year contract. Maybe they had little choice but to put him on similar pay to Forster but it's still the right and proper thing to do. Whether Forster will regain the form that had him in goal for England, and displays like the one he gave against Arsenal, who know, but we do now have the keeper position covered with a good back up. Wages, Yes, but no transfer fee involved, can't be bad.
Charlie Wayman Posted 28 June, 2018 Posted 28 June, 2018 It is obviously good that we do not have to waste money on a new keeper. We must hope his form is not transient. The demise of Fraser Forster is a complete mystery to me and many of you one suspects. Obviously he is not going to hang around here warming the bench. Presumably the club are hoping that some highly paid players will seek other clubs so are likely to have told a few that they can leave; the rest is up to their agents. Most would have FF in that category but what if Mac gets crocked early on in the season? Gunn should still be a target even if we cannot guarantee him first team football.
Matthew Le God Posted 28 June, 2018 Author Posted 28 June, 2018 It is obviously good that we do not have to waste money on a new keeper. We still may sign a new keeper for big money this summer. 3 hours ago Sky Sports reported Saints are looking to sell Forster and buy Angus Gunn... http://www.skysports.com/transfer/news/11095/11419911/southampton-open-to-offers-for-fraser-forster
Saint Fan CaM Posted 28 June, 2018 Posted 28 June, 2018 Pleased to know we’ll not have to endure the statue between the sticks and I actually like watching McCarthy.
SuperSAINT Posted 29 June, 2018 Posted 29 June, 2018 Is next seasons #1. https://southamptonfc.com/news/2018-06-29/southampton-squad-numbers-confirmed-201819
