Heisenberg Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 (edited) @TheSunFootball: EXCLUSIVE: James Maddison on the verge of completing £20m-plus Southampton move. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/footb...ment%253ASport Probably deserves his own thread as apparently this is v close Would be great, but I reserve caution given who is likely leading our negotiations https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/6550455/james-maddison-southampton-norwich-bid-accepted/?utm_source=TWITTER&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=Sprnklr+SUN+Organic&UTMX=Editorial%253ATheSunFootball%253ATw+Image+and+link%253AStatement%253ASport Edited 16 June, 2018 by Heisenberg
LeBenali Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 Hopefully not just agent talk to prompt others to pull their finger out, but if true a cracking piece of business, especially if we can recoup a bulk of that by offloading Boufal.
Micky Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 Looks like it's nearly over the line. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
Pamplemousse Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 If this is true, fantastic news. Sounded like Everton were quite close, so it'd be great to get one over them
Ajv2809 Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 Would be over the moon with that, quality player with bags of potential. Thought he was going to a bigger club if I’m honest. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lighthouse Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 Can’t do any worse than Sophie-Anne Boofing. Let’s hope the Sun is on the money for once.
stevy777_x Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 Looks like it's nearly over the line. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk Any ITKs know how close the deal is?
Nolan Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 Hopefully not just agent talk to prompt others to pull their finger out, but if true a cracking piece of business, especially if we can recoup a bulk of that by offloading Boufal.Same agents as Yoshida according to Transfermarkt...
Saint Albert Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 A good potential signing if true...hopefully the Sun have got this right, like they usually do.
Micky Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 Any ITKs know how close the deal is? We do, but he's probably in the air at the moment. I'm sure that as soon as he lands he'll update us all. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
doddisalegend Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 Harrison Reed going the other way to sweeten the deal?
austsaint Posted 16 June, 2018 Posted 16 June, 2018 Harrison Reed going the other way to sweeten the deal? I hoped Reed still had a future with Saints but the prospect of getting Maddison with HR as the sweetener would be great business. Maddison looks the attacking midfielder many thought Ward-Prowse would be.
Saint Albert Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 The Mail are reporting this story as well. It’s not clear if they’re just basing it on the Sun report without crediting it... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5852609/Southampton-lead-20m-chase-Norwich-England-21-midfielder-James-Maddison.html
Pilchards Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Far too early to think this one is over the line as it’s only given us permission to talk to the player. Now is the time where other clubs come forward to match it and then throw silly wages at him. Simple question: Who would of leaked this story to the press?
tpbury Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Looks like we're back to the short, blonde, lightweight midfielder? Or is he nails?
whelk Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 6/4 to sign for us. In bookies odds that is very far from over the line. Leicester still favourites.
Give it to Ron Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 I have only seem him play on TV a couple of times ...think Hesketh thats who he reminded me of. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
IFHP Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 I would be very surprised if we broke our transfer record (if the reports of £20 million plus are true as well) on Maddison, time will tell if this report is true or not. I don't know if its just Saints, but we always seen to be linked with lots of players and for one reason or another they don't sign.
Professor Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Far too early to think this one is over the line as it’s only given us permission to talk to the player. Now is the time where other clubs come forward to match it and then throw silly wages at him. Simple question: Who would of leaked this story to the press? Answer: No one will "of" leaked the story because you can't "of" anything but it does seem that someone might HAVE leaked it. Very much hope it's a reliable source as this would be excellent news and even better if funded by Boufal's departure.
SuperSAINT Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Nothing yet from any trusted Saints outlets? The only thing the worries me in the report is that we've supposedly had a bid accepted. Certainly wouldn't be difficult to imagine anyone else matching the offer. Could certainly see Reed possibly heading there as part of it as they certainly wanted him back.
Cabbage_Face Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Another Ward-Prowse. Uninspiring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
shurlock Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Another Ward-Prowse. Uninspiring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk How many times have you seen JWP take on and beat a man? Perhaps there are some Kenyan playmakers WCDAJFU.
Cabbage_Face Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 How many times have you seen JWP take on and beat a man? Perhaps there are some Kenyan playmakers WCDAJFU. Ahhh yes that age old question.
IFHP Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 is this not another 'made up press story'? What 5 days before the season ticket renewal deadline a made up story in the press that Saints are looking at £20+ million players, surely not.
ally_uk Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Good signing lots of potential happy if true we need another centre back Gibson?
skintsaint Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Another Ward-Prowse. Uninspiring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk More like a Lallana type - something we have missed in recent seasons.
Chez Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 I really like the fact we are linked with the championships hottest prospects, but tapered by the fact I watched him in the FA cup game against Chelsea last season and he was a total non entity. Only one game though and overall he had a fantastic season in the championship by all accounts.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Good. We've been lacking a goalscoring midfield Maddison since the early 90s...
Wilf Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Talk in Norwich is that it's a done deal, 24-28 hours to finalise.
CB Fry Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 If they've accepted the offer then we need to get it wrapped up quickly - Leicester/Everton/anyone else that want him can also come in with £20m. Or, maybe we've blown everyone else out of the water and those other clubs don't think he's worth that.

skintsaint Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Least he is used to some tough tackling. Some nice goals in there from distance!
SaintBitterne Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 I really like the fact we are linked with the championships hottest prospects, but tapered by the fact I watched him in the FA cup game against Chelsea last season and he was a total non entity. Only one game though and overall he had a fantastic season in the championship by all accounts. In fairness I watched sessengnon be in the pocket of bednerak ,playing at rb, for most of the game when we played them. Maddison is an exciting player and the goal scoring midfielder we’ve craved for years
Dusic Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Good player, reminds me of Lallana a little bit, clever in tight spaces, with just enough of a burst to escape a player. Genuine no10. Hopefully a more reputable source adds to this, otherwise it reads a little like its flushing out interest from other teams. Skybet still have Leicester as favourites for what its worth. I'm not convinced its as clear cut as the article suggests.
Badger Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Far too early to think this one is over the line as it’s only given us permission to talk to the player. As you say, this will flush out other clubs interest.
Wade Garrett Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 What 5 days before the season ticket renewal deadline a made up story in the press that Saints are looking at £20+ million players, surely not. I don't think anyone would be taken it by that anymore. To make a difference in season ticket sales, they will actually have to sign him.
Faz Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 is this not another 'made up press story'? It might be. What’s your point?
Faz Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 What 5 days before the season ticket renewal deadline a made up story in the press that Saints are looking at £20+ million players, surely not. Interested to understand how you know it is both made up, and placed by Saints to help ticket sales to fans much more gullible than you are.
Bad Wolf Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 When was the last time we signed a player from a lower division for the first team? Austin?
Toon Saint Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Would be a cracking signing if we get it done. A great talent who will bring some much needed creativity - scored several absolute belters last season. If the article is designed to flush out any other bidders then hopefully the Puel factor will work in our favour - boring any prospective signing to death. There is also a bit of uncertainty about him atm with links to Fenerbahce. Everton currently have 3 senior no. 10’s on their books - though you’d think Rooney and maybe Klassen will be off this summer. Either way, they probably need to sell before they buy. Hopefully the timing is just right and we can get our man. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
eelpie Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Talk in Norwich is that it's a done deal, 24-28 hours to finalise. Taxi talk?
bpsaint Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 I you not to get too excited over YouTube videos these days - but that lad has got some great skills, and a eye for goal. Really hope there’s truth behind this as he looks like everything Boufal promised and failed to be.
IFHP Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Interested to understand how you know it is both made up, and placed by Saints to help ticket sales to fans much more gullible than you are. Bit touchy aren't we. Whats it to you what I may or may think xxx
Bad Wolf Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 I you not to get too excited over YouTube videos these days - but that lad has got some great skills, and a eye for goal. Really hope there’s truth behind this as he looks like everything Boufal promised and failed to be. And De Ridder...Don't forget De Ridder. Though I actually quite liked him tbf, I don't think he was quite as bad as everyone made him out to be.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 Would be a decent signing although still feel we need a pacey wide player to compliment Maddison. I guess Maddison would replace boufal rather than tadic Sent from my SM-A320FL using Tapatalk
philontour Posted 17 June, 2018 Posted 17 June, 2018 More like a Lallana type - something we have missed in recent seasons. Norwich fan here....If you get Maddison, and its a big if at the moment, then you’ve got yourself a great player. Rarely do you see a player so obviously possess so much natural talent and look head and shoulders above the rest of the players on a regular basis. No doubt about it, he’s the real deal, and comparisons to Lallana’s style our fair but with the added bonus of Ward-Prowses delivery on set pieces. He’s also a level-headed lad who will want to play every game and progress and not just move for the money, hence a move to yourselves or Leicester is more likely than Everton. Although talk this end is that Harrison Reed has made the negotiations easier for you than Leicester. Strengths: - Drop of the shoulder turns - Short to medium passing - Corners and Set pieces always on the money - Free Kick specialist - Confident and cocky on the pitch in a good way - Always wants to learn to get better - best in central no. 10 role Weaknesses: - Thin frame but getting stronger - Gets fouled alot but looks for free kicks too much sometimes Overall, a cracking player, and will definitely be a success for a Top 10 club. Enjoy.
