Trump reckons he can stop the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East "in one day'. The last time he negotiated a peace treaty was with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

He's fantasist that's for sure. That said I do think there's a load of war hawks petrified that he'd throw a bucket of water over the Russia conflict.

Listening to another vox pop on the radio and what struck me is that the republican supporters talk in such existential terms, that if Trump doesn't get in America is over, democracy is dead and that life as they know it ends. Trump really is their saviour, it's such a crazy way of thinking.

Whilst that is true, you can hardly say the other side aren't guilty of the same thing. You've even had people on here suggesting that Trump is going to end democracy and become a dictator if he gets back in.

Trump has actually used the words ‘be a dictator’ and he tried to overturn the democratic election last time round, so I can sort of understand the domestic fears of the other side.

See what I mean you've even got someone here thinking it's going to happen. You had commentators last time he got in saying similar things and saying it was going to be Armageddon. Guess what, he said a load of stupid stuff and nothing of consequence happened. If trump gets in this time he won't even be allowed on the ballot in four years.

I think assuming trump is going to follow established norms is risky. I wouldn’t be at all shocked if trump tried to find a way to remove the term limit that was only added to constitution in 50’s if he took into his head that he wanted another go at being elected.(he probably wouldn’t succeed)

Yes a lot of what he says is stupid bluster. His attempts to overturn the previous result weren’t just bluster though, hence why I said I understand people’s fears.

The events of 6 January 2021 disprove your assertion that "nothing of consequence happened".

Biden became the next president. If trump gets in then after four years there will be another president. Everyone wetting their pants about him being Hitler are ridiculous. He isn't going to end presidential elections no matter how evil the caricature on some people's heads is.

As a reporter said the other day, the Trump movement is now a cult, a very large one that. The man himself has proved beyond any reasonable doubt that his cultish followers will blindly follow him no matter the lies, the felonies, the racism, the misogyny. We have seen it so many times before in America, but never in this scale. But the real danger isn’t the man himself, it is those who enable him either by direct support or by playing down his threat levels. Who in their right mind would like a Charles Manson figure (feel free to add any cult leader of your choice here) leading the most powerful nation on the planet? Sadly many do.

I listened to a young black American guy the other day explain why he and his friends are actively supporting Trump. It was so depressing. He taps into the worst of people’s fears and exploits them for his own personal gain. What is frightening as that he couldn’t care less about these people so long as he gets their vote, but they still hang on his every word. We have seen it time and time again through history and we have yet another cult leader seeking power again with the same sheep prepared to give it to him.People who play the threat this man poses need to have their heads examined. Sociopaths show you exactly who and what they are. Trump has been doing it for years and getting away with it.

More than 100 of Trumps former staffers - people he picked and worked for him have come out and said he isn't fit for office. Only three people who worked for him are still supporting. If that fact doesn't tell you what you need to know, nothing will

I see extending the term limit as totally reasonable. I always thought the two term limit as a bit excessive/odd.

The dictator for a day thing was just trolling.

What do you think Biden's administration has done to make so many MAGA so scared.

I think, however, that we can all be grateful that the proposal from Alexander Hamilton and James Maddison, that Presidents be elected for life, was not adopted by the Founding Fathers of the Republic.

According to a number of YouTube interviews he has crashed the economy, ( not true), unemployment is at a record high, ( not true. ), and the price of gasoline is at an astronomical $5 per gallon, ( it is actually a bit over $3 per gallon in most states ). Above all else - hE sToLe ThE eLeCtIoN.

We are living in a post fact world. It's worrying that you can't convince these people.

You would think that as they pay their $3.15 for a gallon of petrol that something would register in their perception to recognise they hadn't actually paid $5.

The fact is we have huge polarisation in America between people on the right and left to a much greater degree than you get in this country. Hence you get some mad statements from both extremes about how it's the end of America if either group gets in over the other. Social media is the most likely cause for me.

It amuses me how the American left get portrayed as "communists'.

Some of the more extreme factions espouse certain policies that would align with some tenets of socialism but I agree though that making broad brush statements are mad. You do get some on the left calling everyone to the right of them nazis which is equally ridiculous. Something like this today from someone on the right is both funny and sad, mostly because I doubt he really believes this. Social media really is a cancer.

Increasing numbers of Hispanic migrants are flying to Canada and entering the US from there. How long before there are calls for another wall ?

Trump won his first election on promising to build a wall, he didn't. He stands a good chance of winning again for promising to build a wall. Not a bad racket.

Interestingly Fox News seem to be soft pedalling on Trump this time around. Tucker Carlson going was part of that realignment. Im pretty sure they'd prefer almost any Republican apart from him to win, but they are also limited by the fact their viewers are pretty much the same demographic as Trump's supporters.

Trumps support is very gradually ebbing away.  Can't help thinking that somehow come the election the P{resident isnt going to be either Biden or Trump.

Well he's almost certain to be the nominee. If you want the democratic pick to be an alternative then everyone will be hoping for Biden to step down. Would be nice if the leader of the free world wasn't a lunatic or senile.

Doesn't Trump qualify as both a luunatic and senile?

If you like. Biden is an appaling choice as president regardless of trump. Both parties should be looking to bring someone in significantly younger with intelligence and a vision for the country that isn't hugely extreme from opposite ends of the spectrum.

A lot could happen. Trump could easily get disbarred from standing by the courts, go bankrupt, say / do something especially dumb that torpedoes himself, drop dead /  become disabled or simply read the runes and withdraw gracefully.  I reckon if Trump was out of the running Biden would be more likely to step down too, and anyhow he is just as likely to keel over.  I reckon its only something like 50:50 of it being Biden v Trump. Ive got £50 on Haley at 50/1.  Gavin Newson would be a really good pick for the Democrats.
