I am currently in Philadelphia, have not seen a MAGA a supporter despite frequenting some really good bars.  It may be because I am staying with educated literate people!  I have had multiple unsolicited ‘rants’ from otherwise normal Americans that DT does not represent them or the USA.  On a positive note the Baseball in Philly is great!!

The GOP are headed for a political wilderness unless their Senate grows more backbone and teeth rapidly. Congress is too junior and in the grip of a cult. Once they’ve lost both next Houses in Nove, bed next year, Trump is boxed in and gets impeached but the damage could last decades if allowed to go on that long, he’s totally insane.

I think the corporate backers and likes of the Kochs need to invest in the Lincoln Project to build a new centre right pro market and business party over there to overtake the GOP as MAGA has made it too toxic to continue as a major force.

Any Brexiters on here still fancy a trade deal with the US?

:mcinnes:

There's nothing wrong in principle with a deal for whatever trade we do with them. We just need to walk away if the proposed terms are to trade pharmaceuticals other than on a zero / zero tariff basis, have an obligation to buy anything that we can access on the free market, and otherwise trade on unfair terms. Trump needs to understand that the world can function without the US, albeit painfully.

These actions will only hasten the world in its move away from America.

I agree/hope. That doesn't alter that we have to trade with them on some level. All I'm saying is have talks, but don't get bent over.

A Trump appointed Judge has ruled that the Associated Press should be restored to the White House press corps after it's exclusion over refusing to rename the Gulf of Mexico was deemed in breach of the First Amendment.

It's okay, we held all the cards, Boris got it done years ago, it was the easiest deal in history so we were at the front of the queue.

He played a blinder, the lying corrupt conman cunt.

Good. In the absence of politicians standing up to his nonsense, hopefully the judiciary will.

Trump says that "all these countries are ringing us asking for a deal.......kissing my arse...". Goodness only knows when these deals are likely to be negotiated or how long those negotiations might take. The last trade deal successfully negotiated and concluded by the US was the USMCA agreement with Canada and Mexico, signed off during Trump's first term; it was a reworking of the existing NAFTA agreement yet still took 2 years.

So, he seems to have broken the bond market now.

It used to be said that US Bonds were one of the safest investments you could make. Shows you how far the GOP and MAGA have economically shat the bed.

And people were concerned about slightly higher inflation under Biden!

125% tariffs now against China. Hopefully they'll match it and make it clear that what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Aaaaand he's paused the tariffs for three months. What a fucking gutless plank. Bottled it.

The markets will go back up and he'll claim all of that as proof of his genius. And the thick cunt Guided Missiles of this world will lap, lap, lap it up.

That Leavett is a piece of work.

She owes over $300 thousand dollars as a result of a failed election bid in 2022, most of which is supposed to have been paid back to donors within 60 days because the donations were actually in breach of electoral regulations.

Considering that last week it dropped 2200 points in one day, not really worth boasting about.

Finally, after Trump showed his hand, country after country are lining up to pay their debts while kissing his fat white ass.
Chapter 1 of the Art of the Deal has concluded and the US is counting its winnings. I look forward to Chapter 2, in which China begins to count its losses. Only yesterday everyone was using the stock and bond markets as measures of Trump's success. Well this morning, its only fair that the same metrics are used again. The benchmark S&P 500 had its third-best day since 1940, closing 9.5pc higher. Watch and learn.

Are they fuck, it's all imaginary bullshit. Here's a clue, if his mouth is moving - he's lying.

Chapter 1 of the Art of the Deal has concluded and the US is counting its winnings.

The US's bluff has been called, and the markets have shown their opinion on the great economic plan.

I look forward to Chapter 2, in which China begins to count its losses.

China has the US by the balls with the amount of US Government debt it owns. Plus, once the price of their iPhones goes up the US public will start to squeal.

Only yesterday everyone was using the stock and bond markets as measures of Trump's success.

They crashed last week, or didn't you notice ?

Well this morning, its only fair that the same metrics are used again. The benchmark S&P 500 had its third-best day since 1940, closing 9.5pc higher. Watch and learn.

The markets wiped their faces as they just about got back to where they were before the shitshow began.

Genuine question. If you announced you were so upset by posters and will show them good and proper by leaving the forum - in your deluded belief that people would care. If that was me, my pride wouldn’t allow my to come back and witter as I would be aware that everyone would know I was a very weak needy cunt?

Mark Carney said Donald Trump’s U-turn on tariffs was a “welcome repreive” for the world economy. The Canadian prime minister said Ottowa would commence negotiations on a new economic and security relationship  with the US immediately after its next election, which he called last month.

China begs:

China urges US to meet ‘halfway’ in tariff talks. China urged the US to meet it “halfway” in the mounting trade war between the two powers, while promising to “fight to the end” if a compromise cannot be reached.

EU grovels:

Von der Leyen urges Trump to agree ‘zero-for-zero’ tariff deal. European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen welcomed Donald Trump’s announcement of a pause in reciprocal tariffs as she pushed the president to agree a “zero-for-zero” agreement.

South Korea pleads:

Quote

South Korea welcomed Mr Trump’s decision to pause tariffs, as it seeks to cut a trade deal with the US to lower the levies imposed. “The latest pause decision can be evaluated positively in that it gives us room to minimise impact on our industries while continuing tariff negotiations with the US,” Yonhap News quoted South Korean Trade Minister Cheong Inkyo as saying in Washington on Wednesday.

I am amazed that GM hasn't quoted today's Daily Telegraph headline;

"Trump blinks first in trade war.

90 day suspension of tariffs as he bows to criticism from key backers".

Or the Daily Mail....

"Trump blinks"

The I...

"Trump backs down in global tariff war"

Taiwan bows:

Quote

Taiwan president Lai Ching-te said his government could eliminate duties on US products if Washington did the same. “While Taiwan already maintains low tariffs, with an average nominal rate of 6pc, we are willing to further cut this rate to zero on the basis of reciprocity with the US,” he wrote in a piece for Bloomberg Opinion on Thursday.

So what is wrong with the last trade agreement Canada negotiated with Trump ?

New Zealand lose the plot:

Quote

New Zealand’s prime minister proposed a new alliance to battle global export restrictions which would involve Britain entering a trade pact with the EU. Christopher Luxon said the US tariffs had “shocked” financial markets and proposed a tie up involving the EU and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
