Trump has introduced his tariffs under the National Emergencies Act. Under that Act, Congress has the power to declare the "emergency" has ended, and if a motion is so proposed it has to be debated within 15 days.

Knowing that many Republicans are actually ideologically opposed to tariffs the Democrats have announced they will submit just such a motion, thereby forcing the Republicans into a choice they really don't want to make.

To counter this, and avoid this moral dilemma, the Republicans have passed their own resolution, declaring that the remainder of the 119th Congress will count as 1 day.

Politics over there is completely fucked. I don’t usually take much notice of it but had a look on X the other day and it’s polarised to the point where rational debate is just impossible. Trump could literally say anything and some people will support it because it’s their side, and vice-versa. It’s like the Brexit situation we had here but on steroids.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Trumps whole stance on Ukraine is shaped by the fact that Biden supported Kiev. Whatever the Democrats thought and did has to be wrong, actual facts are irrelevant. I guess they have always had the two party thing over there but I expect the whole thing has been turned toxic by social media.

Presume they'll just get paid for a single day then?

There’s been quite a few interviews with long-time US commentators connected with the GOP (or some used to be) on Times Radio expounding this exact line of thinking. Add in what your hear from the likes of Bolton and Scaramucci who have actually worked for Trump about everything going back to being purely about Trump, and it makes more sense than conspiracy theories about Agent Trump.

Donnie's latest word salad from his random word selector, with the Irish Taoiseach sat beside him - "The EU was set up to take advantage of the United States*.

Net approval ratings at this stage of their Presidencies;

Average score +27 points, Trump 2025 +1, Trump 2017 -8. The only one he is better than is himself.

Specifically on the economy, the thing he was elected to "fix";

Average +15, Trump 2017 +8,  Trump 2025 -4.

I'm genuinely struggling to think of any American products that I use.  The closest I can get is my Gillette razor, but that can be replaced with plenty of alternatives. I don't think there is anything else, certainly nothing that I can't live without.

Yeah I don't think I buy much American products but there's loads of sort of products and services such as:
 Amazon, Netflix (plus other streaming), Exxon, Microsoft, probably pretty much every social media excluding TikTok, Apple, eBay,

For the record I don't actually use much of the above - just trying to list American goods and services outside of the usual grocery type purchases.

Donnie on Social Media; "The Radical Left Lunatics are trying to illegally boycott TESLA".        ( How is a boycott illegal ? )

"Ontario just announced a 25% surcharge on "electricity", of all things, and your not even allowed to do that.".     ( Why is electricity in quotation marks, and why are they not allowed to do it ? )

Illiterate garbage, and he should have considered the consequences before kicking off tariffs and supporting the far right overseas.

It's astounding that he thought other nations would just roll over and have their tummy's tickled. He talks of reciprocal tariffs, but whines when his are met with reciprocation.

The only positive thing that has come from this shit show is that Tesla will be fucked in Europe forever. As for those disgusting trucks, you might as well have a sunscreen (remember them?) saying I’m a massive cunt

USA can be a cultural wasteland and will become even worse without sophisticated European goods

A Judge in California and another in Maryland have instructed Federal agencies to reinstate workers dismissed through DOGE's purges.

Donnie has also issued Executive Orders targeting two law firms, one associated with Hillary Clinton's Presidential election campaign, and the other associated with one of the prosecutors who drew up legal cases against Trump. Both firms are deemed to be risks to national security, although another Judge has revoked the Order against the first firm.
