Armstrong on Radio Hants

Where I work there is a big sign saying "Display your security badge at all times". When this was first introduced we were encouraged to 'interrogate' (in the nicest possible way) anyone who didn't follow the rules.

A colleague of mine did this to a person she didn't recognise. Turned out he was the chairman of the board. :)

I wouldn't recognise David Armstrong from the next man, although I know he was a slaphead! I'd bet good money the steward didn't recognise him either, hence the point the club make about welcoming ex-players but making sure that plans are known so that stewards can be informed.

The steward called him 'sir', rather than 'Mr Armstrong' which suggests to me that he didn't know him (tenuous maybe). Granted some stewards are fans, to others it is just a job.

(ps. How Lowe can be mentioned in this thread when he wasn't there is beyond me).

It would not surprise me if this does not have something to do that other porcine ex player, come Radio Hant's commentator, commonly known as "the hoover". Normally found availing himself of hospitality any where in the Southampton area with special pockets for a full load. When you leave paying customers with little remains, it would not surprise me if something was not done in this direction?

Well...I mused all the varients of way this could occur.

a) Steward had no clue who Bald Eagle was

b) Some corporate jolly who knows squat about Saints asked for freeloaders outside his party to be 'asked to leave'

c) An ongoing issue about ex-players needing to 'give' respect as well as demanding it by doing the appropriate registering prior to entering what are basically independent events.

But after all that it seems to be just another unneccessary and damaging, poor and definitely avoidable occurence.

This unfortunate happening is surely a worthwhile fix (if anyone at the club is reading or cares). Horrible PR faux pas but repairable!!

Oh and as an after thought and from a big Armstrong fan as a player and as a bloke "Punters" - "Punters" FFS...use your language more descretely David, very patronizing and condescending to go on record calling the same people you want to support you "Punters"....still think this was totally wrong.

He said on the radio that he asked if he was being thrown out. The steward said no I am no throwing you out I am asking you to leave to which he replied well what would you do if I refused? At no point did he change his story to say he was thrown out, he said he believed that being thrown out and asked to leave amounted to the same thing.

100% correct. I heard this on my way home from SMS and could not believe my ears. I really can't believe that the club were behind this action, in my view it is an over zealous steward.

And there's only enough room for so many freeloaders! Lowe and Wilde to name but 2. I hope the Echo will be privy to the reaction when one of those 2 a re quietly asked to leave any ticketed area! I hope that ticketed area includes the Directors box. That would be great. 10 mins into the game:

Steward to Lowe - "Please Sir, could you finish your conversation and leave".

I'm sure he would go quietly.

And before anyone jumps on the he's the chairman,m he owns this club blah blah blah, ticketed area means ticketed area and this rule must apply to all otherwise that would be a biased law, applied only when stewards want to throw their weight around.

Please someone, check Lowe for a ticket next home game!
