slickmick Posted 17 January, 2009 Posted 17 January, 2009 I have called for stabilty regasrding managers in the past but on this occasion Jan must go and RL if you have anything about you you will do your job and move him aside and appoint Boothroyd. I understand the cost cutting but will not accept abject stupity by keeping a manger who is totally tactically naive Things must be bad for you to call for a managers head. For once we agree on something. Problem is we are the kind of club that doesn't get instant results when we change a manager, unlike Forest and Norwich.
slickmick Posted 17 January, 2009 Posted 17 January, 2009 I was saying to a fan the squad has enough to get us out of this mess, but we need a manager who knows how to gel what we have.Boothroyd for me knows this league he has worked under financial restraints and also brrought youmg players through. He is my present number 1 choice of managers realistically available to us. Must be this wine, I agree with you again.
Legod Third Coming Posted 17 January, 2009 Posted 17 January, 2009 He should have gone weeks ago.... He should never have been here other than to watch.
Dazza82 Posted 17 January, 2009 Posted 17 January, 2009 11 point out of a possible 45 at home so far this season is not good enough and thats with only one win aswell being way back on september 30th against norwich, Time for Poortvliet to go!!! Thats the first person who should go then followed shortly after by Lowe. Its got to happen now with ten games before our next game to give us any chance for rest of the season, look at the confidence boost it has given forest and even norwich today who our next game is against
Harrison Posted 17 January, 2009 Posted 17 January, 2009 Lowe will not go because of the share price. My mate is a personal friend and all he cares about is money. He would loose too much cash if he goes now. sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 17 January, 2009 Posted 17 January, 2009 He should never have been here other than to watch. Yep.. TBH all he does is watch and let`s Gorre do all the work on the touchline.

St Landrew Posted 17 January, 2009 Posted 17 January, 2009 I totally agree and got blasted by a few blind morons for calling him a clueless joker before Christmas when it was clear then he was out of his depth. JP has to go, followed by Lowe, Wilde, Askham, Richards and co. The thrust of people's objective's shouldn't be to force out Jan Poortvliet, because he is just a symptom. The cancer in the club is Lowe, Askham and Wilde. The rest are largely Yes people who'll stand by, or are powerless to do anything, while the ship sinks like a stone. Jan Poortvliet will go when the regime changes. It's a great shame that he is tarnished with the same brush, but he'll be a victim of change, should it ever happen. Saints can no longer tinker around. To me, the club is synonymous with being cheap, ever since I can remember. The one time Saints have spent real money [on the stadium] it has dragged them down because the real lesson of spending, in other important areas, at the right time was lost on them. The initial penny pinching in the Premiership is directly responsible for the present situation. Not never, not slightly, but 100% of the reason Saints are wallowing in decline. Because all this wringing of hands would be entirely unnecessary. That is not looking back in 20/20 hindsight, it is an absolute fact, and it will happen to any business that budgets to stand still rather than moving forward. The situation the club faces was predictable from the day it was relegated, if it was to act, in proportion in the Championship, as it had in the previous season. Budgeting for survival gets you just that and no more. It may even get you less.
DT Posted 17 January, 2009 Posted 17 January, 2009 Unrealistic. Boothroyd too expensive and wouldn't come to us anyway. Still, good to see you're finally seeing JP for what he is.
CB Fry Posted 17 January, 2009 Posted 17 January, 2009 Unrealistic. Boothroyd too expensive and wouldn't come to us anyway. Still, good to see you're finally seeing JP for what he is. Nonsense. We could afford Adrian Boothroyd and he'd take the job in the blink of an eye no problem. We'd be the biggest club he's ever managed for a start. For one, he's chums with Woodward who Lowe I have no doubt would get Sir Clove on the blower to Aidy to big up the club. The "unrealistic" thing is people that seem to think we're some washed up nowhere club that no-one wants to manage. It's rubbish. We've got the stadium, the heritage and the "premier league set up". For a manager like Boothroyd we represent a genuine chance of managing in the Premier League. Who do you think Adrian Boothroyd is going to get offers from? And who is he going to turn down over us? Blackpool?

lordswoodsaints Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 wether or not people 'saw it coming, were 'prepared to give him a chance' or 'wait til christmas before i decide',the facts are we are deep in the sh1te and the most important thing is the survival of this club, not 'i told you so's'. i wish JP well wherever he ends up,he's a good man and i wish no ill feelings on the bloke,he has done what every one of us would have done.....taken the best job he has ever had. he is just a very small part of the rot that has been eating our club for a long, long time. if he is not gone this week then our club is doomed.we need an inspirational manager that will play the british game and will play players in positions they were born to play in.......basically round pegs in round holes.i dont want to hear 'we had one in pearson',pearson is gone and he aint coming back, focus on our immediate needs not what could have been. i doubt lowe is not going to go without a fight,so i should imagine we would have to put up with him for a while longer,so lets start with the management team. some of you will see this as short sighted but we are not in a position to be making long term plans,we need instant results to get us out of the sh1te before making any sort of plans......we need a quick fix,it may not pay off but at least we can turn round and say that we gave ourselves a fighting chance by taking a different route, instead of staying on the same road that we all know will lead to ruin. we need to look at what forest have achieved by a change of manager, and i suspect norwich will do the same.we need to be doing the same as forest or norwich,we need a fresh approach. the next few days will be the biggest few days in the history of southampton football club, lets hope that the board, shareholders and the money men realise the same as us and make the big decisions to match, otherwise the SFC we all grew up with will just become a distant memory, something which i and i suspect the rest of you will find very hard to swallow. P.S Fulthorpe,if you are reading this board......stop fvcking with peoples lives, either do something to help or fvck off........your time is now, there isnt going to be a better time to become a hero.
Block 5 Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 We have given Jan a chance. We have been patient. But we are running out of time. I admit that the revolving door policy regarding managers has caused us serious problems in the past, and I crave stability at our club......but enough is enough! The time has come! Jan out! He clearly doesn't inspire confidence in the players - and that is one of the most important roles of a successful manager. He certainly doesn't inspire confidence in the fans - I struggled to find someone who still supports him on SWF. So how can the board still have confidence in him? he needs to go before this club is dead in league 1...the team/squad he has available is better than 3rd from bottom losing at home to donny.. regardless of the score against donny he needs to go..my mates in soton have just text me saying they are all laughing at the team as no one seems to know what they are doing.. ffs, no more excuses for jan..he is out of his depth forest and norwich are winning...two of our immediate rivals how have chopped their managers very recently... ffs pointing out examples shoudl not be needed with jan the goon

I concur. We need to do something to salvage this season. We cannot continue to bumble along hoping that we somehow pull it off. We have to be quick, brutal and decisive. As for your opening lines, then I also echo that sentiment. Now is not the time for "told you so's", instead we all need to stick together and try and build a spirit of togetherness. However, IMHO that spirit can only start to be engendered if there is movment both in the dug out and in the boardroom.

Whitey Grandad Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 He has got to go now! I've had a good look at the table and if we get somebody in who knows their stuff there's a chance that we can turn Norwich over. With a bit of organisation and method this squad is capable of pulling just clear of the dropzone and staying there, but it's clear that the players have lost all faith in the clown and we have been sinking steadily for quite some time. We have two of the most prolific goalscorers on our books who cost us a lot of money and they have been loaned away in one of the clearest examples of false economy that I have ever seen.
nhshifty Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 I've avoided home games this year because i dont agree with the Lowe regime, seeing the situation we are in now i would go to all home games if their was going to be a majority protest organised properly where your all united. We need to act now as this i feel is the last chance before its too late. Dont normally post on here but this has really got to me now!!

um pahars Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 RL was rid of before and things didnt improve much, But upon his return, things have definitely got worse. There can be no justification for: a) continuing with Poortvliet, and b) continuing with Lowe We're all up for removing Poortvliet without knowing who he will be replaced with, so the line of who are we going to replace Lowe with is somewhat redundant (although I accept that we should be looking now for a CEO to bring in if he goes).

I back RL for his financial stance in the state we are in, but I will drop any support of that if he recklessly does not act
Weston Saint Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 I decided to support the “Dutch” idea at the beginning of the season and was excited by the style of play and aspirations of total football. I truly expected us to struggle early on with results but see a gradual improvement to a mid table (or just below) position by the end of the season. I certainly did not expect us to be in the bottom 3 at Christmas. It is becoming increasingly obvious ( a view many have held since the start) that the style is not suited to this league and we lack experience to turn things round. The team yesterday looked decent and the strongest (Skacel for Molyneau excepted) available from players at present with the club. However they looked clueless for much of the game against a fellow struggling club. This is totally unacceptable We have a coaching team that have been given long enough to impose their style and tactics. They have failed. They need to go. The club needs to act now. Crouch was heavily criticised by the Lowe group for “hoping for non existent investment” whilst finances were burned. Lowe will be tarnished with the same for hoping for a non existent change in our results fortune with this team of coaches. The big question is, will he go for it? I am told there is increasing disillusionment in the boardroom with the present coach. It is no good just sacking one of them. They all need to go although Hockaday may be an asset to have in the background when a new MANAGER is appointed. I fear Lowe will carry on as usual using finances as a stick with which to continually beat the club and ultimately us the supporters. I am realistic enough to know finances are in a poor state and need to be managed. I appreciate the bank has a big say in our clubs decision making off the field. However the balance has to be right. It does not appear to be the case at present.

Mole Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 As for jan I would like him to be given a job with the youth or somewhere else at the club, he is a decent man. This isn't an option. Demoted managers (or coaches in the case of JP) don't work in any business. My manager has recently been demoted and once they've been effetively told they are not up to the job they lose motivation.

My manager has recently been demoted and once they've been effetively told they are not up to the job they lose motivation. I think you're spot on. It didn't work with Wigley when he was offered a lower position after being sacked and as much as I think jan has something to offer, I just don't think it will work. Nice guy, probably a good coach, but promoted way over his ability. His inexperience and naivety is costing us points.
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 18 January, 2009 Posted 18 January, 2009 My views on this are simple. Jan should go, he is out of his depth. We need someone who can come in and get results. Simple! Rupert Lowe, if you do nothing else this season then please please please put your hand in your pocket and get us a manager who can do the job. In the long term it will be well worth the expenditure. If you do not do it now then you really will pay the price, with relegation! I believe we have good enough players just get someone in who can get the best out of them. I'm not asking you to go out and buy a whole new team, just a manager who knows what he is doing. Derby, Forest & Norwich have all replaced their managers as they know how important it is to stay in this league. Please Rupert, sort it out and win back what little respect the fans have for you!
