Now yes all clubs will have these but no doubt these outgoings vary by club unless you think every club has the same out going costs? Giving me the earning of clubs doesn't help if we don't know what the out goings are. I have no idea if the club is just sitting on piles of cash they are refusing to spend but the idea on here that all the TV money is available to just splash on new players seems simplistic in the extreme. Miltonaggro Posted 2 August, 2018 Share Posted 2 August, 2018 How many times have we seen this line trotted out to "defend" the club over the years? At first it was to due to corteses over spending, we had to be frugal because of that, which I got. The last two or three years really it's incredible that year after year we make a profit from the transfer market, we have glaring holes in our squad and people put the line out "yeah but there are wages, contracts, agents fees, bonuses....." Like we are the only club that has to pay these things out. We aren't, every other club has these too but no other club has consistently sold so many players and made so much profit from transfers. Don't we even pride ourselves on keeping agents fees low? I've certainly seen a lot of backslapping in the past about how great it is we don't let agents take the p*ss. the long and short of it is we are back to being run exactly the same way as were when we were Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC. Can only spend in transfers what we bring In, selling off quality and replacing them with cheaper alternatives leaving us and buying in "ones for the future/squad" with a bloated squad full of average players where you cant pick a best eleven, because there aren't any players apart from one or two that stand out. Dusic Posted 4 August, 2018 Share Posted 4 August, 2018 So, a few days left with these pieces to resolve: 1. Addition of a quality attacker (but no real rumours at the moment and clear messages we need to sell before we buy). Chance of getting someone (IMO): 4/10 2. Sort out RB/RWB situation where we currently have zero available specialists. Might mean selling Cedric (something going on) and replacing, meaning backup will come from within the squad by playing someone out of position. Seems ludicrous to me when you can have 25 players to only have one player for one key position. Cedric could be sold after the deadline if it is to somewhere else in Europe. 3. Get rid of our highest paid player, who coincidentally is our 3rd choice GK. Will likely be on loan, if at all, with us still paying the majority of his wages, the same as with Boufal and Carillo. Could happen after the deadline if he is being loaned elsewhere in Europe. 4. Loan out players who will not feature much this season like Sims (barely played in pre season), Hesketh (needs experience of playing against men) etc -------------------------- Current window rating: 6/
SNSUN Posted 4 August, 2018 Share Posted 4 August, 2018 4. Loan out players who will not feature much this season like Sims (barely played in pre season), Hesketh (needs experience of playing against men) etc -------------------------- Current window rating: 6/10 Agree with Hesketh but I don't see the value in loaning out Sims (From a selfish point of view more than for his own benefit). We're fairly short in attacking midfield as it is after Elyounoussi, Armstrong and Redmond, and Sims doesn't count towards a squad place. If we do bring another AM in though, then a loan would be good for him, as I think he has a promising future.

Dusic Posted 4 August, 2018 Share Posted 4 August, 2018 Hughes post match saying we are likely done. IMO staying up has to be the aim this season. We have a very average squad that is poor in both defence and attack. Will be hammered by some teams I think. Eventually lack of investment in the first XI takes its toll. Our team this season will be the weakest since promotion. (Whilst Bmth splash out £25m on a midfielder, without selling anyone).

Ex Lion Tamer Posted 4 August, 2018 Share Posted 4 August, 2018 Wonder what our net spend is vs Bournemouth's since they got promoted to the Premier League... You have to factor in wages though. It seems like most clubs who get promoted and do well go on a downward curve eventually. Swansea have gone now. We're struggling. If Bournemouth and Burnley lose Howe and Dyche they'll go the same way.
