What was the last line on promes?

Remember something about Moscow not being able to get a replacement in due to the bid from us being at the end of the window (shocker) and that we will be back in the summer???

Sisto has nothing like the goal record of Promes although the Russian league is hard to judge.

Don't see us paying £30m for anyone though and thats what Promes would likely cost.

Get both to play either side of Tadic in the no.10 role and a New centre forward

Southampton want to sign Celta Vigo winger Pione Sisto, 23. The Denmark international has a £36m release clause in his contract.

(Mail)

Southampton's Moroccan winger Sofiane Boufal, 24, spoke of his desire to return to the French league just a day after the Premier League season concluded. (SFR Sport)

Why do they mention his release clause? It's not relevant. Bertrand's release clause is infinity since he doesn't have one, are they going to mention that?

OF course it is relevant

How? All it means is if we want to sign him he won't cost more than £36m. That is quite a bit more than what he would really cost and what we would be willing to pay.

The headline says "Sofiane Boufal talks up France return following Mark Hughes row as Southampton target £36m Celta Vigo winger Pione Sisto". The press in this country stupidly treat release clauses as if they were price tags, by the same logic our players are worth £∞.

Well, if VvD has a £36m release clause, there would not have been a sneaky Blackpool hotel meeting and he would have been transferred to Liverpool before he went on holiday last summer.

So, of course a release clause is relevant if Celta (or whoever) resist selling.

£36 million is a lot for us (it also might be Euros so actually less) but the in the grand scheme of things and today;s transfer market it's not actually that much for most PL clubs.

We'd be over paying for him probably but it basically means if we really want him and the player wants to come then Celta Vigo can't charge a really high fee.

I've heard a rumour that they want less than the release clause. Even in today's market 36 mill is ridiculous

The figure in the release clause is usually the figure that will guarantee you the purchase. The only way we would have to go above it is if more than one club are prepared to pay the release figure. In most cases, we can offer (well) below that figure and ask them to consider it.

That is simply not true. If multiple clubs offer the release clause then they will all be automatically accepted regardless of what Celta Vigo want to do, it is then for the player to pick.

Let's give Berahino a shot from Stoke City. I firmly believe there are 20+ goals a season within him. He'll cost peanuts too.

Is this a serious suggestion? :mcinnes:

He has had a failed drug test, doesn't turn up to training and is on a massive barren spell of not scoring a league goal for years. What makes you think he has a 20 goal season in him? He is a mess of a player!

You'd get cool headlines like this thou "RELEGATED footie flop Saido Berahino bedded a mum then booted her out for claiming he only scored on the Xbox."

Wrong.

If he has a clause of £36m that is the maximum any club will pay for him (no matter how many are interested). As soon as a club activates that clause, by offering £36m, he is free to discuss terms with said club(s).

You are right in that £36m isn’t what we will have to pay as they could accept £20m for arguements sake.

Essentially if we bid £36m, it’ll take it out of their hands and it’ll be down to the player.

The others who stand out in the Sporting squad are Gelson Martins and Carvalho. Carvalho has been talked about as coming to the premier league for years but was closest to joining West Ham so not sure he is for us. Other than Martins most of the rest are older than the profile we us sign especially after Ralph’s reaffirming that we aim to offer players a pathway.

Martins already linked to Liverpool as well ;)

As soon as I read the article I knew this would be posted! Apparently he got some nasty injuries.

Bad Dost hcdajfu every sodding transfer window so this might be the one at last!

I actually saw Dost play for Sporting against Braga at easter. They lost and he looked terrible.

What about Adama Traore? His end product is pretty inconsistent but scary pace and plenty of potential

I'm surprised people still mention him. He's a rubbish football player.

He doesn't have anything other than being able to run fast, that hasn't changed and probably won't change. That's why he's in the NPC.

He's complete garbage, based on the two playoff semi-finals.

He's certainly one dimensional, and Villa sought to nullify him by sticking 2 or 3 players on him. Add to that the Villa defenders are quite an experienced bunch. Perhaps Boro should have tried to exploit gaps elsewhere on the field, but they didn't, kept trying the same tactics.

By all accounts Pulis has transformed Traore since his arrival. He's not garbage any more, but perhaps still not a Premier League level player. The thing is, although he is one dimensional, that weapon he has - his pace - is ridiculous. He makes Shane Long look like JWP (Ok maybe that's going too far). As we know from Shane, bucketloads of speed isn't great on its own, but it can be useful at times, and if you manage to put some football ability into the mix as well, it's lethal.

Critically the £36m would usually also have to be paid upfront and in full to activate the clause. This can kill the deal with some clubs who cash flow based on transfer fees (in and out) spread over x amount of years.
