Saints 2 Boscombe 1 - Match and Reactions

Wenger's last ever league game, no way are Arsenal going to lose that one. Chelsea are in good form, and Man City are, well, Man City. It's looking bleak for them, they had to win this one and they ****ed it up.

Tadic battles on into the 3rd minute before hitting the deck in 'agony' at the first challenge. Hope that c u next tuesday is gone this summer
Thought Tadic was absolutely fantastic today.

He is one of those players that will fruatrate, but he has genuine quality and we don't have much of that.

He also has a good attitude as proven by pretty much all Managers picking him.

Lemina is back to more like his best.

Great win today - we now have a chance.

Only negative is that our CBs are all there for the taking, but we know that anyway.

Defence still a major worry. Bournemouth were utter crap, we won't play a worse team all season.

Now we have started scoring, it seems the defence has got worse. Thank goodness we haven't got Forster between the sticks. We would have lost today.

Just back from the game.

Cracking match and cracking atmosphere. Thought we were going to blow it at the end but clung on for a deserved victory.

p.s. my throat is ****ed

Plus one. Too hoarse to talk right now...!

Well, that was never dull. Although we were very tentative in the first half, we were given a boost by Tadic's goal, but hit with a sucker-punch just before half time. But how much better it was to concede before half time than after, as Hughes was able to give them a lift and some encouragement. In the second half, we showed some real fight and spirit. Hughes got the substitutions spot on, I thought. He strengthened the midfield with Hojbjerg, Long provided the pace and never say attitude that compensates for his inability to tuck the ball into the net, but he does at least tie up a defence, and provide the pace to track back against a team that hits you on the break.

In the past couple of games, it has seemed that there were a couple of players who gave the appearance that they weren't that bothered to give there all. One of those was Lemina. Well, what a performance he put in today. If he can replicate that in the last three games, we stand a chance. Bertrand was the other one who I thought hadn't given his all, and today he wasn't bad. He has been at his best with Tadic in front of him and Redmond should have been out on the right. But Tadic was able to get more central and had a great match, could have had a hat trick. Too many times this season, he has seemed scared to shoot, and has passed square when the chance was his. Today, his shooting was top drawer. I wonder whether Hughes has encouraged him to have a go? No doubt his confidence will have received a boost and I hope that he keeps it up for the next three matches.

Lastly, but certainly not least, massive praise for the man between the sticks. What an incredible performance from him. That one right at the end kept us the three points and was a worldy save. Man of the match today could easily go to three players, McCarthy, Lemina or Tadic.

It was a bit backs against the wall for the last ten minutes, and Bournemouth are the division's late goal specialists, but we persevered and for once deserved on balance to get all three points. I'd forgotten what it felt like to walk away from St Mary's after a win. When was the last one?

Think I've finally stopped shaking after that 2nd half! What a huge win - we really are on a constant roller coaster supporting Saints, season after season!

Brilliant to see all the players giving 100% and their reactions after the final whistle. Just hope it's not too little, too late.

I meant that Everton, Swansea and Man City will put up more of a fight.

This time of the season you can never say who will do what , You'd think Bompey would have been well up for helping to send us down !

That was more like it. For the first time in a long while the players really put in a shift and look liked they cared. The last few minutes saint's players where throwing their bodies into blocks and fighting for every ball to get the win... that hasn't happened in a while. Every player played their part today and while there where some issues (Cedric *Cough* Hoedt *Cough*) I'm just going to take some pleasure from a rare win and good team performance tonight. COYS

My 'moment of the match' today was Hughes's reaction when we were 2-1 up with c.15 mins to go... He did his absolute nut when we did an about turn on the half way line and passed it back. There in that one moment was the difference between our play under Puel and Pellegrino and now under Hughes.

I thought we played excellent today, Redmond aside. One big difference to me is that we seem to be attacking defensively more in the midfield area (both mids and defenders). Rather than in previous games where we sat back and let the other team have possession and tried to suck up the pressure, which always led to scores, we were closing the space and fighting for every ball. The Cherries never had that much space. I credit this Hughes.

Not sure about that. We spent a lot of time sitting deep in shape and allowing Bournemouth to play the ball around. We would occasionally change it up with a bit of pressing higher up. But for a lot of the game we seemed to be asking Bournemouth to try and break us down.

Austin was also pretty poor today. Romeu not great either.

Complete contrast to last week’s flat crap effort. Great atmosphere today. We are a poor football team with honours going to Hoedt who is scarily out of his depth, but half this league is crap and a semi competent manager would have seen us safe by now no bother. Instead we had Mauricio Pellegrino and here we are clinging on by our fingertips because of him.

I thought he worked hard and put in a shift if I'm honest. Lets face we have a quite few players struggling to do the basics of their position (Hoedt and Cedric come to mind) so in the absence of ability I'll take hard work and commitment in our position.

What a game as it had everything.

knew it was going to be a cracking atmosphere when walking to the ground.

Tadic had his shooting boots on while Lemina run the midfield with pure grit and determination.

That save by McCarthy 3 minutes in injury time was truly awesome.

A fantastic 3 points and well done every supporter who sung their hearts out.
