Got a lot of respect for Maya. He comes from a country where very few players have made an impact as a PL player, certainly not as a centre back in a physical league. He must be mentally strong to have overcome the bias about being an Asian player in Europe and also carrying a lot of expectation on his shoulders from Japanese football fans. That isn't easy.

He has improved massively during his time here, especially when playing alongside someone better than him. Also clear he cares and is well liked and respected by teammates.

As a player he isn't IMO a first choice CB for a decent PL side but thats no disgrace.

As a person, there is a lot to like about him in an era where the majority of PL players are lad banter, tattoo sleeve tossers.

He will have a better story to tell than the majority.

Absolutely this.

He is a true professional. I'll certainly read it.

Has a book coming out.....this has to be a joke.

Seems a great bloke but can’t have that much to say.

Don't really get your outrage with this tbh.

Far bigger problems than attacking one of our longest serving and loyal players.

He's one of the very few people at the club with any integrity whatsoever. Not worthy of dissing, to be honest

He absolutely loves the club and is a true legend.

If he was good enough for the top 6 he wouldn't leave us as he's a legend and he loves the club so much

He is neither outraged nor attacking.

That said I would be interested in reading the book, personally.

Top player, give me 11 Mayas now. We may still go down, but we'd do so with one hell of a fight.

The japanese way. Not the best, but loves the club and us, which to me, is important.

If only he had a whole nation who would be interested to hear about his experiences.

Glasgow, what are you going to do for a ****e stir when we're in the Championship and no one gives a toss about your weak wind ups?

don't disagree with it, but it just is not relevant. the fact of the matter is he is releasing a book and he has been with us for 6 seasons. that sentence is a fact.

what you're doing is almost Les Reed-esque in putting a negative spin, the same way he does when our players want to leave- ironic really.

‘Resilience can give you strength to keep moving forwards when you are caught in the rain or a storm, and keep you continuing on your journey through life. And it is a strength which resides in everyone.’

Maya Yoshida, one of Southampton FC’s most admired players, is well known for his sense of humour on the field. However, underneath the convivial public persona is a man with unrivalled ambition, resilience and strength of character.

Unbeatable Mind reveals the secrets behind Maya’s success and how he became a favourite of football fans across the globe. Recounting his stunning career trajectory, this book provides inspirational guidance on how to overcome obstacles and thrive in any competitive arena.

Was the ghostwriter getting confused with someone else when he wrote this synopsis?

Or even to fill in as a fullback whenever asked with no complaints
That said, we aren't some kind of charity. Saints have given him a great platform.

I'd imagine the story of how a young Japanese footballer finds himself playing in Europe, and then becomes Japan's longest serving EPL player, could be a semi-decent read.

Maya has scored more EPL goals than any other Japanese player, although Okazaki is sure to overtake him soon enough.

I'll be getting his book for sure.

As I said in the other thread, it's a decent career move really. Will play regularly, chance of playing in the Asian Champions League, and it's closer to Japan

I'm assuming you didn't do geography at school? :uhoh:

I wonder if we will ever have another testimonial.

James Ward-Prowse probably. Steven Davis made his debut at the same time but as he's 33, I doubt he'll be playing for us still at 36.

Saudi Arabia is closer to Japan than England is.

Still far away, yes.

So is Pompey.

Its not enough to make any difference and I’d be surprised if there’s even a flight from Riyadh to Japan.

No direct flights between Riyadh and Tokyo as far as I know pal. Its a much longer journey.

Did you? ;)

Distance as the crow flies...

Southampton to Tokyo = 6,014 miles

Riyadh to Tokyo = 5,414 miles
