Saints v Boscome

We have won 1 of the last 21 in the league but peeps on here think we will suddenly win 3 of the next 4

Never going to happen :shakey:

This will be the same nervous, slow, error ridden crap - same as last 2 years. :spaz:

You are absolutely right of course but the amazing thing is that even now there is a pathway out of this.

If we could somehow win the game by playing like we did against Chelsea( league) and then Bournemouth missing the chances that come when we make the inevitable mistakes it might just give us a little bit of confidence and determination to get a couple more results that if other results went our way would mean we survive. Because surely there is a half decent team in there somewhere and we must have better players than Huddersfield, Brighton and Bournemouth at least.

Far fetched I know but if we as fans have given up how can we expect anything different from the players?

ummmm, you have said it in those last few words........the players have given up and some of them gave up months ago. There are far too many just happy to collect a pay packet.

I put £12 on us to go down when Palace took the lead against us. I would never normally bet against Saints, but when that goal went in i was both certain we were fecked, and furious at the club. Ultimately its a silver lining if we go down, and that looks very likely.

I can cash it in for £57 now. Tempted to stick it all on Liverpool to win the CL. Again, a silver lining insurance bet.

I don't think the Manager has given up and it is up to him to pick players that haven't.

i know it's painfully obvious, but reading this thread just confirms it.

35 matches into the season, no one, not Pelligrino, not Hughes or Les or Ralph, not Joe Fan, nor SaintTex, etc. can say with any certainty who our best 11 are.

....because it's subjective, all opinion. What is Man City's best side, do we know? Does Guardiola know? Keep mix and matching and see where it takes us.

Subs: Forster, Bertrand, Cedric, Lemina, Hesketh, Sims, Long

I've posed this question many times and never read a plausible answer. How can you play someone like Ward-Prowse as a wing back or wide right attacker when he doesn't/cannot run with the ball at his feet judged on what we have seen in 200 or so appearances?

Had this conversation before; only way it would work is to cross from deep.

I find that hard to believe as most betting sites suspend season-long betting when games are in progress.

I believe it's known as the Cornelian Dilemma....

Cedric: relatively decent pace but no end product

JWP: no pace but relatively decent end product

Blimey? Common sense!! 200 appearances, average 4 corners and free kicks per appearance == 800 chances. Look at the stats.

Complete non-event as a spot kick "specialist". I saw Elvis down the chip shop is more real than the myth that surrounds that L1 player.

Il Duce has been protecting his position for the last 3 years. Saints have needed an AM to displace him for at least the last two years, eg an on-song Lemina type by 2.

And some are on expensive longterm contracts with no relegation clause (it has been said on here). So we may be stuck with them in League 1.

If true, it's Les wot dun us.

So 5 Saints managers who see him in training and on the pitch every day plus several England Youth, Under21 and full England all pick him - they are all wrong and you are right?

More weird criticism of JWP in here despite the fact that the only time we look even remotely like contesting a game is when he plays. He's not fast, he's not particularly strong, but something he does makes us better. He's also the only one offering when our shower of **** inevitably run down blind alleys, he's always there looking to take the ball and move it on to where it should've gone before that useless **** Cedric decided to ignore all his options. He absolutely has to start every remaining game.

Still our second most productive player (4 goals 4 assists) behind Tadic (5 goals 4 assists) despite playing 900 mins less football !?

I feel sorry for the many managers we’ve had as whatever team we put out several individuals choose to have a crap game.

Lemina and Romeu have been a menace in midfield but right now they are just weak as a pair.

Defence is all over the place as Hoedt keeps falling over, Stephen’s powder puff while Yoshida sometimes has a shocker.

Then you look at Boufal, ha ha a dancing pansy with the woeful Redmond and JWP.

The only hope we have is when Tradic turns up as he makes us tick.

With all these poor players together you need to find the solution as to why they are all so bad and the answer lies with whoever bloody well spent 100m+

Reed, I think your time is up.

SPOT ON!

THIS!

Genuinely feel a large proportion of Saints fans are utterly blind. For right or wrong he is our ONLY player who can deliver the ball in to goal scoring positions with regularity. He is also the only player we have that can deliver a corner beyond the first man.

The fact that the rest of our bumbling band of ‘footballers’ struggle to make anything out of his excellent deliveries is more a reflection on them than him.

I wouldn't. I'd have him sat cross legged on the center circle until we get a set piece.

Compared to Davis (who also gets a lot of stick) who was only dropped by Pellegrino (coincidence?)

Nah. Davis was obviously carrying an injury earlier in the season and since he's been back he's been well off the pace. It's a shame and you cannot fault his professionalism, but age and injury has caught up with him.

I'd personally go with something like...

--------------McCarthy

Cedric----Bednarek---Yoshida---Bertrand

------JWP------Romeu---Hojbjerg

------Long------Austin----Tadic

I'd go similar.

--------------McCarthy

Cedric----Bednarek---Yoshida---Bertrand

------JWP------Hojbjerg

------Long------Tadic------- Gabbi

------------Austin-------------------

I don't see any point keeping jewels on the bench, we have to go balls-out for the win!!

That team would get hugely overrun.

Long has been proven as even worse out wide than he is up front.

Austin, with Tadic and Redmond behind is the way to go as unfortunately we need 3 CBs because they are all so poor.

Playing the most expensive players in each position looks something like this...

--------------------Forster--------------------

Cedric--------Bednarek---Hoedt----Bertrand

---------Hojbjerg--------Lemina-------------

---Redmond------Boufal------Tadic----------

----------------Gabbiadini--------------------

(ignoring the ridiculous fact that Gardos, despite being on loan, is our second most expensive centre back at the club, and that only playing one striker means Long at £12million or whatever it was misses out. And yes, I've deliberately overlooked our record signing from January which should never have been allowed (as Pellegrino should have been long gone).)

If you'd showed me that team on paper at the start of this season I'd have said we were a CB light but easily good enough for top ten. Crazy how mis-management changes things.

For Bompey I'd reckon:

McCarthy, Bednarek, Yoshida, Hoedt, Cedric, Romeu, Hojbjerg, Bertrand, Tadic, JWP, Long.

Boufal is in disgrace, training with the U23s and won't be playing.

And that team would have no control of the ball whatsoever.

No going back after this game. Hughes has to show some balls and set us up to attack or as he said "throw the kitchen sink at it". 5 defenders and 3 defensive midfielders won't cut it. Especially as we have let in a **** load of goals playing like that. Be positive and get at them. If we go for it and don't get the result then it just wasn't to be. I'd rather that then sit back defending and still don't get the result. Go down fighting.

Sad to say I know, but we will bottle it, as we have done all season. They will be more up for it than we will, I fear we are going with a whimper.

Still think we'll lose, but I've just bought tickets, just in case the unthinkable happens. The hope is killing me.

Poor presser from Hughes. sounded defeated and downcast and in this mood he doesn't inspire confidence. Has he given up mentally? If so the players will soon sense it's all over
It is over. We are down. If we beat Bournemouth then all the Cherries need to do is roll over against Swansea the following week and boom. We're relegated and Hughes knows it and the players know it too.

Sorry CB I think your grasp has failed you. If we beat Bournemouth then Swansea would have to beat both Chelsea and Bournemouth (and us lose to Everton) for Swansea to be safe. A win against Bournemouth also puts other teams in our sights including, based on your scenario, Bournemouth themselves.

By the way I've just watched the presser and I thought he was showing calm determination. What do you want him to be doing, laughing and joking about our need to get out of a big hole?

Simply can't be starting this game with Tadic, Redmond and one up front. It has failed all season, every time.

Time to bring Fraser back in as he has something to prove and McCarthy hasn't been all that.

Lemina - one last chance to prove he isn't a feckless lazy tart.

Long needs a rest - that touch against Chelseas hows how far shot his confidence is.

Impact from the bench if we need it.

Forster

Cedric Yoshi Bednarek Bertrand

Sims Lemina JWP Tadic

Gabbiadini (10)

Austin (9)

What? McCarthy might be not be a world beater but he is a huge improvement on Forster. If Long's confidence is shot you can say the exact same about Gabbi's. Also that midfield will give our **** poor defence no protection at all.

TBH it really doesn't matter who starts now for whatever reason (confidence, given up or just useless) we have a squad full of players that are all playing so poorly that who ever plays in whatever formation it seems to make bugger all difference to the result.
