John Boy Saint Posted 16 April, 2018 Share Posted 16 April, 2018 Does no one else in the team, beyond JWP, actually practise taking Corners and Free Kicks. Stoke game I think, it was like no one had ever taken one before. Its almost like everyone else sits in the Staplewood stands checking their Twitter account while Prowsey practises on his own. Saturday after he was subbed we got a free kick and it was like Bertrand suddenly realised James wasn't on the pitch and with Tadic gone too it was his turn. Last season Ryan was whipping in some evil corners from the right hand side but this season he seems to have become last resort with Tadic taking them when JWP isn't on the pitch, an all he seems to do is float them deftly into the keepers waiting arms more often than not. I just find it bizarre that without JWP on the pitch corners and free kicks for us are nearly always pointless.

Ultimatt Posted 16 April, 2018 Share Posted 16 April, 2018 Dave Watson is our set piece coach. Might explain things.
ericofarabia Posted 17 April, 2018 Share Posted 17 April, 2018 Our defending at corners is infuriating!! Haven't paid much attention recently but under Mope every player was back defending in the box, not a single player on the halfway line to keep a couple of defenders with him!! Now we don't have anybody on the edge of the box, at times Chelsea had 3 players strung across just outside our box unmarked and invariably this is where any under pressure headers land. Unforgivable.

Whitey Grandad Posted 17 April, 2018 Share Posted 17 April, 2018 Now we don't have anybody on the edge of the box, at times Chelsea had 3 players strung across just outside our box unmarked and invariably this is where any under pressure headers land. Unforgivable. Not just at corners. We retreated so far back that almost everybody was in the box and yet Hazard and Giroux foud space and time to score. The problem is that if too many players are there then nobody knows which player to mark and so nobody picks up anybody. If the midfielders push up more then it becomes obvious which attackers are loose and also puts pressure on the opposition players that are just outside the box. Otherwise we can't clear the ball upfield.
