Could Bournemouth send us down?

Honestly who cares if it's Bournemouth? I'd be just as p*ssed off if it was Swansea, Leicester or any of the other sides we're playing. Bournemouth are just another club and have no impact on my life whatsoever, if they want to pretend there's a rivalry fair play to them, but there's no from this side so it's not going to make it any worse if they do.

Reed, Wreck-It-Ralph, Wilson, The Chinese Crook, Fat Kat and Pellegrino have sent us down.

Unfortunately this is the case.

A ridiculous transfer strategy, pure arrogance at board room level, Loss of quality and lack of replacement, lack of any real ambition, a previous owner who couldn't give 2 sh!ts, a new owner who appears to be skint and has no knowledge on football isn't a great combination.

The sooner we go down and replace the lot of them the better.

Incredible really. 2009 and Steve Fletcher saved them from going out of the Football League, and we were on our way to administration and League One. How things have changed completely in the space of nine years!

They have an owner with ambition, willing to spend money to improve the club - we don't.

That was the 3 - 1 home defeat to Reading

Yep if memory serves me correctly, the draw to that lot put us back to the top of the Championship table.

Pompey fans claim it stopped us from winning the league but it's as ****e as their claims of sending us down in 05.

It won’t be as bad as David Norris scoring and injury time Worldy to stop us winning the league. Or very damn near out a massive boot into our title chances

We went up and they went down. It was gutting but didn't really matter. Even when that goal went in we still had the bragging rights.

They were certainly the better side that night and finished the season brilliantly.

Interesting how the fortunes of the two clubs have fared since that night though. It's been horrible for 18 months and we will possibly be back with them in the second tier next season, but looking at the bigger picture I think I'd take some of the seasons we have had, the European qualifications, the Milan trip, the cup semi final at Anfield and of course the final, over winning the Championship.

They took their chances and we didn't and i agree the championship winners medals didn't mean much after they went down

Whilst I agree - the club do appear to have a real issue with winning anything.

Even in recent times:

Easily the best team in L1, came second.

Easily the best team in the Championship (that season), came second.

Should have won the EFL cup, better on the day had better preparations, came second.

For a club of our size, to have only won the FA cup once, we have massively underachieved.

We'll always be bigger than them, whether they like it or not.

Given the direction of both clubs I wouldn't be so confident in saying this.

If B'mouth an survive in the PL for the next few seasons and build a their new stadium they have every chance as being as big as us - similar to Brighton in that matter.

The gap financially between the championship and PL is getting bigger by the year, I honestly cannot see us getting back any time soon. By the time we are back, we could be significantly behind the likes of B'mouth and Brighton.

Very true. Brighton have gone from 2,000 average home gates in 1998 to 30,000 average gates in 2018, largely thanks to investment from their owner, Tony Bloom. Bournemouth could easily emulate that with enough investment from ambitious owners.

The only way we can be relegated that day is if we fail to pick up any points against Chelsea and Leicester and Huddersfield & Swansea win both their games. Seeing as Swansea play City away, that’ll be unlikely. If we go down it’ll be just another in a long line of defeats, not the final nail in the coffin.

A very sobering thought. Who would have thought it ?

20 years is quite a long time TBF.

it was a standard edge of the box shot, we went up anyway. sorry to dampen your enjoyment of it.

It was their first that was the worldy, my mistake.

Kind of just like to see us beat them sometime again. That was a very annoying result

We are a medium to small club

I was and he`s right fatty

What's your point other than your odd obsession with me? It was an absolutely gutting goal to concede and it wasn't a standard shot by any means as it was a volleyed ball dropping from a height.

I'd be very surprised if Bournemouth ever sell out a 30k ground regularly, it's just not a football town (and i say that from having lived there for a bit). 20-25k is probably the max they'd ever get for anything other than games against the big clubs.

Brighton had a history at the Goldstone of pulling in decent numbers so it's not a massive surprise they sell out Falmer now.

Clearly someone who wasn't at the game and experienced how it felt. Practicing for the marathon at the time adrian?

If I remover rightly, it was a cracker of a shot from Norris, on the volley about 20 yards out and remember seeing a few saints players drop to their knees as they were gutted.

Their fans went nuts. It was like time stood still and just could not believe it from my view in the chapel/itchen corner

Their first. From McGuire was even better, slightly annoyed Davis got done at his near post though

Totally. Most sickening and surreal goal I've experienced at SMS by a long, long shot.

I think you'd be surprised - If they could win a trophy (which is completely possible) or even qualify for EL then I think they'd start attracting bigger crowds.

Like us, their catchment is pretty big and if we were struggling, they could easily attract some of our potential fan base.

I guess it would all come down to pricing. Sensible price (£15-£25 an adult ticket) and any PL club could easily get 30k

I don't get this borderline masochistic obsession with our rivals being responsible for our suffering.

Pompey didn't send us down, we were out of the relegation zone with 2 games left.

Pompey didn't stop us winning the League, Reading edged it and if anything we threw it away losing to them and throwing away a 1-0 lead at Boro.

Bournemouth wont send us down. Highly likely we we still be in it (mathematically) whatever the result.

We probably wont win, we will probably go down and they will probably gloat. C'est la vie.

Mine with you... Really couldn't make it up...

My opinion is different to yours about the goal, sorry you don't like that

I wasn’t that bothered by the Skate equaliser to be honest, we were going up, they were going down - couldn’t ask for more than that. In the Chanpionship the prize is promotion, wether you go up first, second or play-offs is little difference.

The most sickening St Marys goal I can think of is that Everton one when Crouch ****ed up a shot instead of taking the ball to the corner.

Christ, yes. The one good goal Darren Bent ever scored in his career.

People keep saying this, but they never say the reasons why. No one knows what we are going to be like next season and you over state our possible downfall whilst overplaying the likely success of Brighton and Bournemouth.

Just looking at the tables and 7 out of the last 10 years at least one team has come straight back up. Now if it's us, Stoke and WBA that go down we have at least an equal chance with those teams to be the one that comes back up.

The relegated teams from the last ten years that haven't come back up; Derby, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Blackpool, Blackburn, Bolton, Wolves, Wigan, Reading, Fulham, Cardiff, QPR, Norwich, Aston Villa, Hull, Middlesborough and Sunderland. At least two and maybe three of those teams are coming up this season. That leaves a list of teams that shouldn't frighten us.
