Micky Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 There appears to be somebody else who will be at SMS today who also fears that clubs could suffer due to the amount of debt in the game: http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Business/Football-In-Recession-Big-Clubs-Could-Go-Bust-In-Credit-Crunch-Doncaster-Rovers-John-Ryan/Article/200901315204952?lpos=Business_First_UK_News_Feature_Teaser_Region_0&lid=ARTICLE_15204952_Football_In_Recession%3A_Big_Clubs_Could_Go_Bust_In_Credit_Crunch%2C_Doncaster_Rovers_John_Ryan Being in the position he is - I would think that he is well placed to judge. Saint George Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 The NFL have got it right...... 'Parity between the businesses' and let the 'SPORT' decide the victors ..... Soccer in the UK is running on a unsustainable business model, If it doesn't sort it's act out soon the professional game will just disappear up its own backside...It's well on its way already

hughieslastminutegoal Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 well in that case...neither is tiger woods, or lewis hamilton or roger federer...we are not talking about city here bring in any old foreigner and paying him over the odds...we are talking about city bringing one of the very best players on the planet in the most popular sport....not as if all of a sudden benjani will get his wages doubled now...this is a one off..and only kaka with 2 or 3 other players would command such a situation.. Tiger Woods, Federer or Hamilton do not get transferred for 100million pounds, they just get paid a ridiculous amount. And that ridiculous amount isn't earned from one employer. Woods and Federer have to win tournaments on their own. They pay for their trainers and managers out of their own pockets. Their earnings are in big proportion sponsorship earnings. So it just isn't the same thing at all. Kaka doesn't win championships on his own, does he? Last I heard, football was a team game. The 200k a week or 500k a week or whatever lunatic wage he'll be on is just what the club will pay him. It is obscene. If the Dubai people have that kind of cash to spare why don't they start by doing something worthwhile. You could probably pay the food bill of 5 African states for 100m. Lets just hope our Govt make sure they get every penny of tax out the w*nkers and use for something other than bailing out banks these t*ssers have shares in.
