Secret Site Agent Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 (edited) Well done the boys. Huge Hughes effect. Wigan had so many chances but we played on and kept attacking. And Hoj and Cedric scoring their first goals for the team. We March on Edited 18 March, 2018 by Secret Site Agent
Suhari Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Nice touch from the players heading over to the fans. Relief and smiles all round. We can build on this.
striker Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 I liked that we kept attacking at 1-0. Still need more punch in the final third, but I think with Austin on for Carrillo (who really doesn't do much) will make a big difference.
angelman Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Think it is the best we could have done. Struggle 1st half, MH go in and tell them what should happen, it happens and we win.
Batman Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Terrible 1st half. Much much better 2nd half From the start it was obvious we tried to get the ball forward quicker 2nd half the quality started to show Fair play to Wigan. Good footballing side and made a real game of it
Heisenberg Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Shocking first half but decent second. Still a lot for Mark to work on... Good start though
iansums Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Superb second half performance, we made them look like a League 1 team.
Manuel Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Great for Cedric to get one. His first for us? Really not sure what Carrillo brings to the game.
Greenridge Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Hojberg my MOM Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Don’t let doddisalegend hear you say that or he’ll slit his wrists.
Dusic Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Dire first half, up there with anything this season, really poor. Second was good though, against tiring opposition who pushed forward. Most PL sides would have battered us first half. Still not sure that two strikers really helped us and certainly most PL sides would expose us through the middle. Wembley though, good stuff!
Batman Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Hoj saying the new manager has made a difference Berty saying that the new manager has brought new intensity. Saying hughes wants to attack a lot more
Toadhall Saint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Rode our luck first half but a different team in the second half - well done saints!
badgerx16 Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Superb second half performance, we made them look like a League 1 team. But did we look like a Premier League team ?
Cabrone Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 We started off as a frightened Pellegrino team and finished as an attacking Hughes team. This may be the turning point. In the cup semi, fans giving it their all, 2 up front, 2 goals and most importantly we may have found our mojo again. Brilliant. Long and Gabbi up front next game (assuming Charlie is injured).
Colinjb Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 But did we look like a Premier League team ? More then we have been for a long long while.
badgerx16 Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Still not sure that two strikers really helped us ..... Well, one plus Carillo.
angelman Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Agree that if Austin absent, Long and Gabbi. WTF do you do with Carrillo?
Jonnyboy Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 That there Paul Cook can hit the high notes as well. Susan from League of Gentlemen?
Suhari Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Our fans sounded great today. Did us proud. Safe trip back guys!
miserableoldgit Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Paul Cook seems to be doing a decent job at Wigan....I wonder why he left P*mpey....? Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Lord Duckhunter Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 I know he’s a skate, but quite impressed with Cook. He seems a character & his side play some really good stuff Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Saint_clark Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Can we convert Cedric to a left winger please Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk
Pamplemousse Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Paul Cook seems to be doing a decent job at Wigan....I wonder why he left P*mpey....? Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk He achieved all he could there, needed to move to a bigger club.
Lastman73 Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Well done to the away fans, great noise to spur the boys on !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Whitey Grandad Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Semi-finals are Saturday and Sunday 21st & 22nd April if anybody’s interested.
Dalek2003 Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Hughes post match interview. A proper manager. His whole demeanour.
miserableoldgit Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Cedric takes a lot of undeserved (IMHO) stick but he was brilliant with his goal. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

Whitey Grandad Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Can we convert Cedric to a left winger please Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk Is that the first time that Cedric has been in the opposition penalty area?
Norm Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Delighted with the win. I wouldn’t be unhappy if Boufal and Tadic don’t play again this season.
derry Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Soares, Hojbjerg and Lamina poor in the first half. Credit to Hughes, good half time, these three had better second halves. Hojbjerg and Lamina still gave the ball away too much. The team were more direct, much less possession. The penalty miss was criminal, Gabbiadini looked like a rabbit in the headlights. His miss from the back pass looked like a player unprepared to receive the ball. Carillo didn't look that good against a Div one team. Long gave us more and won more.
Saints foreva Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Decent second half showing. Let's build on this now.
Pamplemousse Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Ha, just had a read on POL Didn’t mind cook....until he just wished scum well in the semis. Fkoff cook
CanadaSaint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 The first half looked like a carry-over from Pellegrino. Whatever Hughes said at half time, we started to see players who - for the first time in months - looked committed and unified. The celebrations at the end looked like months of frustration had just been unloaded.
OttawaSaint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Can we convert Cedric to a left winger please Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk Maybe he is but somehow it all got lost in translation. Might explain the **** crossing from the right.
Plastic Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Cedric takes a lot of undeserved (IMHO) stick but he was brilliant with his goal. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk He was terrible for the majority of the match, but that was a quality goal... From the left...
dobbo Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Think the wind played a fact in first half and helped second. Great support came through on TV
Jonnyboy Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Well, one plus Carillo. Carillo getting all the stick. But he didn't miss a one on one and a penalty. Also motd showing his running in the corner routine giving Hoj the space to score.
Batman Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Controvesial opinion time...United our best chance in the semis now...? Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk Rather them than Spurs
Baird of the land Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Jekyll and Hyde. First half utterly horrible. 2nd so much more composed. Got to give Hughes credit for actually causing an effect with his ht team talk and reasonable tactical moves. On the negative side, can we please have someone on penalties able to confidently place it right in the corner. Don’t care how hard gabbi hit it bbc it was a perfect height for a goalkeeper. Ohh and Carrillo is still garbage. Long was much better in his cameo imo.
OttawaSaint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Um, Redmond. The flick he did before setting off on the run was superb! Clear which players hated MoPe the most: Redmond Cedric Hoj
saint lard Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Well, what a different second half. Great subs at the right time. Long did exactly what I hated when he played for the opposition. BBC bias willing Wigan to win was embarrassing. Carrillo is terrible...at the moment. Shed loads to improve on....but that result and second half display should lift the players, club and fans. Well done Hughes....very refreshing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Saint_clark Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Rather them than SpursOn paper you'd say Leicester but I couldn't handle the media going on about puel if we lost to them. Sent from my SM-J330FN using Tapatalk
John B Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Great for Cedric to get one. His first for us? Really not sure what Carrillo brings to the game. Movement allowing Hojberg to score the first goal
saintadjg Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Hughes has got a lot to do to undo All the damage MoPe has inflicted.1st half was shocking.2nd half improved but still very poor for periods We really need to improve our fitness so slow to close down.Hom many times did they run half the pitch unopposed?Gutted for Gabbi. Be great to have Charlie back for the run in.Good to see Sparky make changes that weren't all in last 2 mins.Next game please bring JWP back in for Tadic.Fans sounded great especially considering the utter dross dished up at times .
austsaint Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 Second half so much better and the win is a great platform to take to West Ham. I've nearly seen enough of Carillo and I thought Tadic was lucky not to be subbed, he was poor again. Despite the two misses, Gabbiadini made many good runs into dangerous areas. Hoedt and Stephens looked a it wobbly - our lack of depth at CB is a worry. Good to see Hughes on the field and congratulating players - why Pellegrino was kept so long will always be a mystery.

Big difference between the first and second half was that Wigan tired. Their intensity was unsustainable and needed to take their chances in the first half.
qwertyell Posted 18 March, 2018 Posted 18 March, 2018 It wasn't pretty, but a win's a win and a step in the right direction. Acheived with just nine players, too, as Carrillo and Tadic are total passengers. Hopefully Cedric finally getting his first goal out the way will discourage him from desperately whacking the ball into the stands from 40 yards once per game. Shame Gabbiadini couldn't register, but he put himself in good positions and at least looked like he was trying. That Brighton keeper is one to watch in the future - only 22, an England u21 international. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
