Wigan Away Match Thread

The Saints game will be the only QF without VAR. The other three QFs will have it...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5455959/FA-stick-VAR-FA-Cup-final.html

I wonder what the reason is for not using it at our game? I suppose the obvious answer is: "The DW stadium isn't a premier league ground and, as such, isn't equipped for VAR"... However, isn't VAR something that is dependant on the broadcaster's equipment/facilities, not the hosting stadium's?

Only gone up slightly from what i've seen, there's still tickets there for about £66, admittedly it's not the £40 return that i found on the day we went through but still not a massive jump.

Rail-geek mode, if you come from Southampton on Cross Country, you might be able to change at Manchester/Crewe, to a (cheaper) slower local service?

No logic there - it is a trial

It makes perfect logical sense- you wouldn't make a new rule in the Prem and only apply it to some games, would you? This is essentially what they're doing in the FA Cup with VAR. One team could go out because there was no VAR to check, whilst another team is in the final because a pen was given after consulting VAR.

That is flawed because VAR is not a new rule... it is a tool that means existing rules are more likely to be applied.

Saints and Wigan have no advantage over each other and are playing under the exact same rules of the sport as the other 3 quarter finals.

So you'll be perfectly satisfied if Wigan win with an offside goal, whilst in the other three quarter finals there are goals ruled out using VAR?

What makes you think I said anything remotely approaching that in my post? :?

I'd obviously prefer that not to be the case and had we been playing at St Mary's we would have VAR for the quarter final.

It isn't flawed because I was using the rule example as a metaphor and not a literal comparison. Each game in a competition should be conducted under the same conditions. I also disagree that goal line technology is used in the FA Cup as not all games can have it and it should be the same for VAR. Like I said, we could go out because VAR wasn't there to check, whilst Spurs could go through on a decision that was made with VAR. Hence, all 4 games are not being played using the same criteria.

Any idea how many have been sold so far?

Not that many, the front 8 or so rows of each block are not on sale as Wigan reduce the capacity of the stand , looking online there's plenty of availability left in each block after day 1.

Don't know why we've faffed around with all the different selling dates , should have had a couple of days for season ticket holders, day for members then get them on general sale.

Going on how well Newcastle and especially West Ham have sold, if they had just opened up the sales willy nilly someone somewhere (especially on here) would be mithering. The next 2 days windows will be the guide as I would imagine that with the team stumbling along, away day purchases this season have been spread a bit more thinly than in previous seasons.

It said quite a lot that Newcastle sold out before Burnley despite being a fortnight later. In fact, did Burnley sell out at all?

No it didn't. In fact i thought it was the lowest we've taken to Burnley for a standard 3pm kick off.

burnley did not, newcastle has though.

if i remember correctly though, we had an allocation of like 2400 for burnley but just 1600 for newcastle.

I can't afford to do both newcastle and wigan away, but prioritising wigan instead- somewhere I've never been even either even if Newcastle offers the chance for a better weekend.

I said this in the third round that if you can't use it in every game it shouldn't be used at all.

Or at least it should be able to be applied across all games in the same stage of the competition.

I think just over 1,900 sold so far which is pretty good after 2 days and its the first 6 rows that were not available judging by blocks 1,2, 6, 7 wher some row 7 and 8 seats available

That's more than I would have thought after 2 days of a heavily restricted sale, probably suggests it will sell out to ST holders and Members, may not make reach General Sale.

How can you tell how many have been sold so far?

Other than counting the green dots online (or asking the ticket office) I don't think this info is readily available.

Just had a quick eyeball of the availabilty in each block, and it looks like we've sold about 50% so far (rough guess)

This will definitely make general sale.

I agree around 2,300 sold so far

I collected my Newcastle tickets earlier and the chap on the counter said the system told him there was 45% of the allocation left. So over 2500 sold so far, with it still to make members and general sale.

Apart from the ability to review decisions for accuracy, which makes it a completely different set of rules.

Any chances that a non member Saint exiled in Liverpool will get a chance of a ticket to this one? I remember being able to rock up to Oldham and Huddersfield and paying on the door in our " league" days. Happy happy times.

they go on general sale on tuesday

https://southamptonfc.com/matches/2017-18/fa-cup/wigan-v-saints-2018-03-18/ticket-info

as long as you have a customer no from SFC from previous purchases you should be ok and youll be able to buy tickets online

We’ve hardly sold a seat in blocks 1,2,6,7 so you’ll get one easily on general sale. I’ve seen a few posts on social media by people reluctant to book travel in case they don’t get a ticket, ridiculous that the draw was weeks ago and general sale starts just 6 days before the game.

So basically all of our normal travelling support have got tickets then, as we usually get between 2,500-3,000.

So the rest are up for grabs for those that don’t really travel away much.

Big test of how good our fan base is now, if we shift those given our current form I’ll be impressed. My guess is we sell maybe 1,000 more. Especially if we don’t get something in the Newcastle game.

Also any of those complaining they can’t get tickets to other away games, now is your time to put up or shut up. Tickets for this should be easy to get for most and the club are running the bingo buses, so no excuse not to go really.

It's ridiculous that the club sell the tickets in so many pointless categories. I get the fact that the most loyal fans should get first shot but does it really matter if someone has gone to 2 or 3 away games instead of 4?

From a quick 'skim count' of remaining seats, I reckon there's about 1,000 remaining, give or take. So, whats that? About 3,500 sold so far? The middle 3 sections (blocks 3,4 and 5) are pretty much sold out. Blocks 2 and 6 have about 60-70% remaining and the outer blocks (1 & 7) have 90+% remaining (although these outer blocks are c.half the size of the other blocks)
